How often do you get your boiler serviced?

We haven’t had ours serviced for a few years due to lack of spare cash. Is it 100% necessary to do it every single year?

Annually.
if you want to sell you have to provide your certificate.

No you don't. I sold last year and I wasn't even asked.

Brightlittlecanary · 10/01/2026 15:11

Annually, I thought everyone did.

Cadenza12 · 10/01/2026 15:12

Annually. It's quite old but passes all the tests.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 10/01/2026 15:12

Ten year baxi guarantee states we need to regularly service each year. Previously did the same as a v old boiler. Every early October. Had no issues 6 years in.

Liftedmeup · 10/01/2026 15:13

Never. It’s over 30 years old and has never once broken down. We once had an engineer look at it and he said it was a good one, and not to let anyone tinker with it or try to service it. We have a carbon monoxide alarm.

Fortheloveofpizza · 10/01/2026 15:14

Every year during warranty and every second year after that . It was £60 this year which I thought was good.

Hogwartsian · 10/01/2026 15:14

Never. I've lived here six years and think the boiler is about 18 years old.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 10/01/2026 15:15

Every year in the summer. Insurance is invalid without it and then there’s the safety aspect to consider. Plus I’d rather problems were sorted in warm weather, I’m the person who’s boiler would choose to fail
on Christmas Day!

Ive fairly recently moved here. Its Somerset not London and the local plumber quoted £300. Its a bog standard boiler!!! Im getting different quotes.

LadyWiddiothethird · 10/01/2026 15:17

Not had it done for a few years.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/01/2026 15:17

We have a Kingspan hot water cylinder which requires an annual service to keep the 25 year warranty active, so we have that and the boiler (which only had a 2 year warranty) done together annually. It costs about £110 for both.

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 10/01/2026 15:18

Once annually. Just recently had one. 9 years old, in tip-top working order. £80. I check the pressure once a week, adjust it ~3 times a year with changing temperatures. If you look after it and get it serviced regularly, you will have a happy boiler. Although I feel that general concept applies to virtually everything.

Joystir59 · 10/01/2026 15:20

Annually- ours is under warranty so has to be done as part of maintaining warranty, but I would always get an annual service- the boiler is the heart of most homes.

We were told as long as the pilot light is blue it's fine better not to fiddle with things when working fine. We have a carbon monoxide detector.

I pay about that for my home emergency cover for a year, in Somerset, although it's a national firm. Plumbing, electrics, drains, etc. and it includes an annual boiler service. Ours is done every April/ May.

Smiling2022 · 10/01/2026 15:27

Every year - costs about £75 for a service.

We have just had to have our boiler replaced, but we did have our old boiler for 24 years.

WinterWooliesBaa · 10/01/2026 15:29

I had it serviced annually during the warranty period, then got a bit lazy about it. It had a problem which Worcester Bosch talked me through fixing. They were great, a part needed replacing so I went on the annual plan, it's good value & incudes an annual service which they book in during the summer. I'll get. Discount off my next boiler with them, they're so good I won't even be looking around.

AgnesMcDoo · 10/01/2026 15:30

Annually. Needed for my insurance.

Cat1504 · 10/01/2026 15:34

I was asked last year for our certificate by the conveyancer.

They ask for many things but you don't actually need it to sell. Same with the electrics. I was asked about the electrics due to it never having had a rewire and I said no. That was the end of the matter.
