Planning haircare for a weekend away abroad?

Catbrations · 06/01/2026 16:56

I am due to fly away to Prague for a weekend from a Friday to a Tuesday, likely travelling overnight on a Thursday night and I to Friday morning.

I am trying to figure out a haircare plan for thew weekend. I aheva fine thin hair and it's my new years resolution to mind my hair better.

If this was a weekend trip within the country, it probably wouldn't not be an issue in that I could pack my haircare supplies and hairdryer but it's not. It's a weekend trip abroad.

I am trying to figure out haircare for the weekend. I usually wash my hair twice a week. Sometimes 3 times a week. Maybe after travelling being hot and sweaty I may need to wash my hair abroad.

I am just tying to figure out a haircare plan for the weekend. I hate hotel hairdryers. Do I buy a travel hairdryer? Or do I wash my hair at home and use dry shampoo? Or seek out a wash and blow dry before I leave so that it might last a few days more than when I was my hair. Or do I seem out a wash and blow dry while I am abroad? Would I need a wash and blow dry booked? Going to Prague.

Or will I bring hair turbans and let my hair dry naturally?

Aren't you overthinking this just a little bit?

I probably am. That's why I am posting to see what is the best way forward. I forgot to mention too that I hate dry shampoo and if it's dry shampoo time, it's time for a wash.

Wash it just before you go, wash it once there and use the hairdryer. Don’t go out with wet hair, it’s freezing there. I can’t see how a travel hairdryer is better than a hotel one.
Pack a wool hat.

Definitely overthinking! Wash it before you go, if it needs a wash whilst you are there, then wash it and let it dry naturally (if it's very fine, it shouldn't take too long to dry), don't use dry shampoo if you don't like it.

Get a wash and blow dry before you go and bring dry shampoo. No further thought needed.

It's really not that big a deal. Wash your hair if you think it needs it, don't if you don't. Hotel hairdryers are fine.

Soontobe60 · 06/01/2026 17:47

Wear a hat!

I have a great cut and a weekly blow dry

my hair looks great for longer than a week afterwards, daily brush and then comb if it gets messy.

No elaborate hair strategy required.

pizzaHeart · 06/01/2026 19:56

I have similar hair. I would take some of your trusted shampoo and conditioner in mini bottles and a travel size dry shampoo just in case. Wash on arrival and then half way through.
Are you using straightener or tongs or anything else for everyday? If yes, take whatever you use with you.
Hotel hairdryer is fine, just slow , check that you definitely have one in the room.
Trip like this is not the time for experiments and you obviously want to look good in photos.

I have waist length hair, just wash it and leave. If we need to out put soon, the last thing I do before going put is comb through it which tidies it and soon dries.

Agree! A weekend away when you wash your hair twice a week? Simple, wash before you go, same when you get back. Could wash it there as well, travel shampoo and conditioner. I do wonder how some people cope in the real world.

Go to the hairdresser on Thursday for a wash and blow dry - as late as you can manage. Try to wait until Saturday to use dry shampoo - get the kind you put on overnight so you wake up looking reasonable. You’ll probably have dodgy hair by Sunday evening so do one of those scraped back ponytails with a glossy finish and nice earrings for Sunday night dinner. It’s cold, so probably bobble hat on Monday!

You won't be able to go out with wet hair, it will be absolutely freezing. Currently -6c!!!

My wash days are usually a Saturday and a Wednesday or a Sunday or Thursday or Monday and Friday. It's different every week.

If I was on Thursday, I definitely won't be able to stretch a wash until the next Wednesday because I will be late back on the Tuesday. I will need a wash at some point and I am just trying to figure out the planning of it. I hate hotel hairdryers.

That sounds like a plan.

You’ll be wearing a hat most of the time.

Catbrations · 06/01/2026 20:54

Why don't they have hair salons and barber shops in airports? My partner is always looking for a barber shop for a shave when out foreign. I would like a wash and blow dry too. All of this would be fixed with hair salons and barber shopsin airports.

Every hotel I’ve been to recently has had a ‘normal’ hairdryer rather than the weird ones attached to the wall. But yes, you are totally overthinking it all!

WarmGreyHare · 06/01/2026 21:00

What do you normally do?
Just take travel bottles of shampoo and conditioner and any hair products you consider essential. If you don't want to use their hair dryer can you not wash it at night and let it dry naturally/wrapped in a towel?

If your new haircare routine takes so much planning and products and time that you can't shove it in a weekend bag them I'd be getting a buzz cut personally, bugger that 🤣

Joking aside, it's not like you will see anyone you know, does it matter if your hair isn't as styled or whatever as it usually is? If it is long hair then just tie it back and enjoy your weekend.....

I genuinely opened this thread assuming there was a typo in the title and wondered what you had meant to say given I didn’t think it could possibly be about hair care 😂

GalaxyJam · 06/01/2026 21:03

What do you normally do when you go away?
I just take some of my shampoo and conditioner with me and wash it when it needs washing.

ElizabethVonArnim · 06/01/2026 21:04

Are you going from Gatwick? There’s the AeroSpa which says it does blow dries

Rosealine · 06/01/2026 21:10

Do you always overthink like this OP? What would you normally do when you go on holiday? I’m sure you don’t need strangers on the internet to advise you on when and how to wash your hair? Also you’re going to Prague not hiking through the Amazonian, take your own hairdryer with you?
