Pillows!

I’ve reached the age where sleep is becoming the make or break of my day! Not sure what’s happened but my pillows are driving me mad. I’ve bought all sorts of new pillows from high street shops, none are right! Social media is full or expensive pillow recommendations- I’m not sure if they are real or worth it. Does anyone have a recommendation of a pillow they can share?

A bump for you as we've the same problem.

Humanswarm · 05/01/2026 21:07

I hope someone comes along to answer this, but same boat here and it's driving me mad. I have ordered, from Amazon, one of those V shape pillows out of desperation as the last time I recall sleeping well was when I was pregnant and had one of those..( DS is 10 now!)

Dunlopillo. Latex pillows. They're pricy at £90 ish but they last 10 years and are amazing.

Would love to know this too as was wondering the same earlier! So sick of flat thin pillows

I like M&S feather and down pillows and am very fussy. We have three each and I replace 2 about every 2 years. I don't like the firm ones which get the best reviews. They are reasonably priced.

I have neck and back problems and find a soft malleable pillow best. Sleep on two, the third is for propping up to read.

Oooh do you have a link please? I have two
rather old, soft pillows that I just can’t part with, but desperately need to replace!

You need to find what works for you, with your mattress. Nobody else can answer that.
I now have a Tempur mattress and don’t use a pillow at all. At other times have used soft, firm, memory foam, two…

ChinFluff46 · 05/01/2026 21:24

This is on my list to sort out.

I have some huge bulky ones which look nice but hurt my neck.

And some flat limp ones that are sad.

Following.

Ikea pillows. I have feather/down but their others are great too. They do three different heights, for back, front and side sleepers. You should be able to find something that works for you.

Their feather/down duvets are also excellent too.

Tootyfilou · 05/01/2026 22:35

I am the same... you name it I have bought it, wool, memory foam, bamboo. My latest and best purchase is Dusk, feels like down, pillows. Soft, not too flat or high, so far so good!

Betty197 · 05/01/2026 22:45

We have Simbas. Love them. You can add and remove the blocks as you wish.

fearoffalling · 06/01/2026 00:08

I also have the M&S duck feather and down (but in firm- side sleeper ) as was getting neck headaches on waking and reluctant to buy a really expensive pillow as first option.
So far they have been successful- still go down flatter on the side I tend to sleep on but I just rotate the pillow the next night.

user593 · 06/01/2026 00:10

I really like the Devon Duvets wool pillows. They’ve had them on offer (buy one get one free) on and off over the last few months.

Hadalifeonce · 06/01/2026 00:11

Wool room, wool and latex.

Enko · 06/01/2026 00:14

It depends on why you are sleeping bad. Personally I use an ergonomically shaped pillow and my neck and arm pain stopped. Downside of that is when I travel I struggle with normal pillows.

Simba hybrid
It was recommended to me on here. I needed to buy an extra bag of cubes for it because it was originally too low/soft and I cant tell which side is meant to be the cool side but I love it! It does need poofing up every tine I change the bed but is otherwise no fuss even for my bizarre sleeping positions.

https://simbasleep.com/products/simba-hybrid-pillow. I bought one of the seconds so it was half the price. I'd pay full price if I had to replace it.

Previously I had a braa-vet wool one. I had to buy loads of extra filling for that but it was comfy until eventually the wool compressed down too much to fluff up which you'd expect.

Before buying feather or down pillows, please check out the animal welfare of the brand. Some of the big names treat the birds horrendously. 😪

Hybrid™ Pillow

With adjustable height & firmness, plus Stratos cooling technology, the Simba Hybrid Pillow is a must for a good night's sleep. Machine washable. Free delivery.

I'd second this. We have them and they are brilliant never lose their shape and are very very comfortable.

Do you plump them in the morning?

Nicecatneighbour · 06/01/2026 08:25

I have ended up with an M&S microfibre pillow (which is a bit soft) with a thick pillow protector and a snug fitting pillowcase, which makes it firmer... after numerous different permutations over the years. John Lewis £20 non allergenic pillows are good, in 3 different softness levels. It does seem to be a common problem, after a certain age.
I got exercises for a sore neck from my physio, who told me it's usually made worse by mobile phone usage (no surprise) which affects the neck arms, head, muscles.

Cyclistmumgrandma · 06/01/2026 08:38

I have recently bought some adjustable pillows. Mine are wool filled but there are other options. The case is zipped and I can open it and add or remove filling as I wish. I could also buy extra filling if I needed a very firm pillow. Highly recommended as we are all different so some people’s ideal pillows can be very uncomfortable for others.

Whereissummer24 · 06/01/2026 08:44

So glad it’s not just me - thanks for the recommendations, I’ll get browsing this morning

I used to love Dunlopillow but the new ones seem to be firmer and they are no longer comfortable for me. I’ve moved to adjustable pillows. See previous post.
