Can you help with London suggestions for daughters 21st?

Hi there

We are planning our daughter's 21st, thinking of a family trip to London. Mum, Dad & daughter. I'm looking for suggestions that may suit as I'm feeling very overwhelmed 😕

Daughter isn't really an instagrammable sort but does love a trend so 'cool' places.
She hates musicals so theatre probably wouldn't be a hit.
Not a foodie, she is a very simple eater.
Loves clothes and shopping but not really a markets sort, more high street with some funky indie/vintage thrown in.
Loves gaming (we've done escape rooms too many times to repeat)
'Nerdy' sort (we've done HP studios, Madame T previously) but also into hair, make up, clothes.
Possibly nice vibes for a drink or two but neither parent drinks alcohol so possibly not an 'out out' vibe.
She's quite introverted so wouldn't enjoy anything where she is thrown front and centre.

Thinking to get a Premier Inn as we don't think the budget being spent on nice hotels or fancy food will be appreciated. Thinking to make more of the activities and shopping element.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Clays. There are a few in London.
it’s a VR clay pigeon shooting game in a cocktail bar.

you get pizza and cocktails and part of your booking- so food is simple and you get a booth so when it is your turn you are only “front and centre” with your direct group.

Really good fun and a bit different, so it would be a nice activity for a birthday weekend.

We usually stay in Archway premier inn. It's b close to tube and easy to get into town.
there are nice shops around Covent Garden and lots to see, plenty of places to eat.
would she like a river cruise along to Greenwich and a look around the shops and market there. Again plenty of places to eat.

A makeover at Charlotte Tilbury in Covent Garden is a lovely treat. Then Putt Shack or similar for fun & cocktails

I had to spend a couple of days staying near Battersea power station for work, it was a really nice area very different from when I lived in London in the 90s! We managed a great deal at the Pestana hotel, which has a free spa.

What about one of the Race Across the World or Hidden City treasure hunts? I've done a couple of the latter with my 20-yr-old and they've taken us to some lovely bars and eateries we would otherwise have not encountered. The Sherlock Holmes one has an excellent food stop en route which isn't budget-breaking but is a quirky place.

Needmorelego · 04/01/2026 11:13

Has she actually requested to go to London?
It seems an odd choice if she hasn't got somewhere specific she wants to visit.
Edit : sorry that sounds rude - apologies.
I meant the type of things you said she likes don't sound very London specific so you could go anywhere really.

London2026 · 04/01/2026 11:25

Thank you for the replies, I'm already feeling a plan form.
So far we have shopping, thinking Covent Garden and trying a market incase it turns out to be a hit! Is there a better place for shopping?
Looking at the life sized monopoly, London eye, possibly Agatha Christie play.
I'm just very concerned we are coming at it from a middle aged point of view rather than a 21 year old 😕

Love Clays so that's a great one for an evening.
Hidden city we had ruled out as she might find it boring, but will have a look as she's a Sherlock fan!
We've done a river cruise previously, it went down well but with so much to see and do in London, not popular enough for a revisit.

We are also considering an air bnb as sharing one room might give very little 'down time' for all but two rooms might leave her feeling a bit out on a limb. Yep, I'm over thinking...

She loves London so it will definitely be her favourite choice. She's hinted at it a few times but we've had a lot of financial uncertainty this year so she hasn't asked for anything. She's working full time so a big gift seems somewhat pointless as we've bought her a car which is still fine and mostly anything else she would want, she can afford to buy as she's living at home.
We considered Paris or Brighton but felt London would be the easiest to navigate and it's been a big hit previously (10th and 17th birthday) Plus allows us to budget the parts that won't matter and splurge where it will be appreciated.

Always open to suggestions, last year was brutal so this has very much fallen off our radar but we do want to make it special.

We did a peaky blinders immersive show, you could see if there’s anything like that. Also monopoly or traitors live games.

Bestchocolate · 04/01/2026 11:36

@VanCleefArpels how much is the charlote makeover ?

AlpacaYourBags · 04/01/2026 11:38

I love Carnaby Street for shopping (used to be a dedicated Camden Market girl, but that's lost its charm now).
The Crystal Maze experience is one of my family's favourite thing to do in London.
It's better when there's more of you, but if you don't mind being put into a larger group with some randoms, or just doing it as the three of you, then look into that.

Immersive game box? Maybe you have one near you. https://www.immersivegamebox.com/en-GB/venues

When are you going? This punch-drunk immersive theatre (really a gaming experience I think) is on til February https://www.punchdrunk.com/work/lander-23/

If she likes Monopoly The Top Hat Monopoly themed restaurant may float her boat.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 04/01/2026 13:55

2 rooms is a good plan. If she decides she’d rather have company you could share with her and leave dh in the other one?
I’ve done one of those ‘behind the scenes’ tube experiences - would recommend, I will screenshot in a minute.
I did the Titanic immersive VR but didn’t suit me as it triggered motion sickness! Others seemed to have a great time.
some of the lesser known smaller museums are worth considering, there are loads for example I did the Old Operating Theatre.
Many but not all of the theatres experiences are musicals so are worth a quick look.
(the good things about these threads I find is that the OP normally gets some great ideas, but they are also great to inspire others)

Echobelly · 04/01/2026 13:58

Have a nice tea together? On my parents' 50th anniversary we went to the Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge and the tea was really delicious as well as looking beautiful. I know you say she's not foodie, but I think it's something everyone can enjoy.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 04/01/2026 13:58

Very well organised and attended by a range of ages.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 04/01/2026 14:00

Sky Garden also worth considering - free but you have to keep checking the website for dates to be released. There is plenty of seating in the main zone plus you can take your own food if you want, even though there is a cafe and other food options. We’ve never had a huge wait to get in.

We love the Premier Inn Southwark Bankside. It’s right on the Thames & near the market. Great location.

giallo · 04/01/2026 14:11

A 21 year old I knew wanted a champagne tea in one of the high end hotels. The Ritz, Claridges, The Wolseley all do them, all central. There are probably lots of other places that do them, maybe somewhere with a view over London.

jimloop · 04/01/2026 14:19

thinkfast · 04/01/2026 14:29

Would phantom peak be her kind of thing?

London2026 · 04/01/2026 14:29

Thank you all, I'm noting everything and spending the afternoon going through suggestions and getting the finer details on lock.
Some of the ideas have also sparked other ideas or brought different things up on Google.
Please do keep them coming, I will update our itinerary when planned incase useful to anyone else in the future.

Panic is subsiding!
