I enjoyed it.

Liked the book too, but the sequels got a bit ropey.

IsThisLifeNow · 31/12/2025 20:32

Also really enjoyed it, I was impatient through the first maybe 60 minutes, but still interested. One of the best I've seen this year, and I see a lot of movies!

Is it worth me reading the book now I've seen the film ?

I loved it so much I might rejoin the monthly cinema pass thing

No, read The Last Mrs Parrish instead.

Agree! The third one especially.

I have a monthly cinema membership and weeks like this are so frustrating! Apart from The Housemaid (saw the trailer, not my thing) and Marty Supreme (which I saw on Boxing Day) everything is pitched at the school holiday market.

I've just finished the book and really enjoyed it but haven't seen the film yet.

Thortour · 31/12/2025 23:10

I loved it

monicagellerbing · 31/12/2025 23:12

The ruined it by changing the ending and leaving loads out of what went on in the attic

Flingotheflamingo · 31/12/2025 23:12

Loved the book, loved the film.

DH loved it too and he’s completely insufferable with films.

Also - that hotel scene. Sydney Sweeney has the most perfect figure ever. Envy

Gunz · 31/12/2025 23:32

Yeah went with my adult DS and even he enjoyed it. Few days later we saw Avatar 3 - never again 3+ hours and same story line as Avatar 2.

WafflePlusWord · 31/12/2025 23:43

I liked the start of the book and some of the middle but thought it got more ridiculous as it went on. I had no inclination to read any of the sequels. I was bored the day after Boxing Day and went to see the film. It was good to begin with and even still and the end but still ridiculous. I thought the acting was good and it wasn’t boring so I’ve no complaints but it wasn’t really my cup of tea if you get what I mean.

I love my membership, but yes I'm not too excited about this week's new releases. Although it is handy to take the kids during the holidays, my local one has films for £2 which is a good saving on the usual price. Not the latest films, but the kids are happy with it

I’m not sure how I felt about the changed ending. It was more a movie style ending. Having the gardener in it was pointless as they used none of his parts from the book.

Maybe I’m just not a nice person but my issue with both book and film is why Nina would ever go back and help Millie, knowing she’d be risking her life to do so, especially as she has a child and worked so hard to get away. My attitude would be “you wanted my husband, now you have him”. Although the book explains it a little better than the film did.

That said, it was entertaining enough. Me and DD had both read the book so that’s why we went to see it.

spottybaghottyhag · 02/01/2026 10:17

Is there sexual content in the film?

Yes. You see Sydney Ss boobs (if they are hers anyway!) and there’s a sex scene sort half way through- loads of memes on instagram about men going just to see that part!!

DancingLions · 02/01/2026 10:21

Some, yes.

lap90 · 02/01/2026 10:32

It was a good film, yes.
I’ve seen better this year though.

FionnulaTheCooler · 02/01/2026 10:37

I enjoyed it too. I was slightly disappointed she didn't drop that match on the petrol and burn the place to the ground though.

AnneLovesGilbert · 02/01/2026 10:40

I’ve been wondering whether to watch this. I bought the book, guessed the twist within the first couple of chapters, googled to check and then couldn’t be bothered to read the rest of it.
