Is it worth the hassle to sell on Vinted?

Thought I'd have a bit of a clear out, being New Year and all that!

I have stuff that is barely worn e.g. Sweaty Betty hoodie and running jacket, and unworn SB leggings; plus Boden dresses with tags, and various other lightly used stuff.

Am I likely to get a reasonable price or should I just take it to the charity shop?

I brought a SB jacket for £6 recently. With fees and postage considered (I know sellers don’t care but) it came to around £11 ish.

The only disadvantage with not printing your own label and using a locker is thst you’re reliant on the courier not mixing the parcels up. Whenever I’ve received the wrong item, or something has gone missing, it’s turned out that thst the parcel was put in a locker without an address label. If you don’t have access to a printer, I think it’s far safer to take parcels to a shop so that you can see for yourself thst they’ve attached the right label to the right parcel.

Thank you @FurForksSake and @TwistedWonder

Def worth it. Especially the sportswear. SB sells really well. I was going to suggest holding off til payday weekend, but I reckon this is excellent time of year to be selling sportswear.

You want to make posting as easy as possible. Before you list anything, choose your postage options in settings. Post Office is rarely the quickest or easiest option. Google to find your most convenient lockers or shops that have you can do without printing a label. Inpost for lockers, Evri and Yodel for shops. Unselect all options that are a hassle. So I won’t do post office, and my nearest Yodels are all a hassle to get to and park. So i only let buyers use Inpost and Evri.

Listing:
Photo it in best light possible. Daylight, ideally near a window. Hanger always better than laid out flat. Steam or iron stuff. Photo front, back and labels.

I set myself up with everything I need in one place including postage bags/envelopes or boxes. I package stuff straight after and put post it note on to remind me what’s in package. Items straight into box when listed.

If you just have 6-10 items to sell as one off i would normally say wait till last week of month and upload items Thursday - Sunday. A couple items each evening, a couple items sat and sun morning. But sell exercise stuff now. I wouldn’t bother selling anything out of season; no summer dresses.

Good luck

£6? 😮

I'd rather give them to charity!

@Q2C4thank you that is really helpful. I've got a big house full of kids books, toys, clothes (all long outgrown), plus lots of my old clothes (big weight change), books, bric a brac ect. I imagine enough it might seem like a business but just an 18 year accumulation that I want to shift so I can tidy & market my house to hopefully move. I'd not want to get in any trouble tax wise or have the stress of proving I was not a business. I also am in receipt of benefits so I'd definitely have to check the rules on that separately too. It's probably better for me to give it all to charity.

Squirrelchops1 · 01/01/2026 14:43

DP has had a vinted morning, getting about 20 items on. He sold 3 in half hour!

SilenceInside · 01/01/2026 14:53

@Westfacing you could put the items on Vinted for the price that you want and see how you get on. It's not a big hassle and you may well be able to sell them for a decent price. If not, then no loss to you and you can gift them to a charity shop instead if you prefer.

Daisyzeeee · 01/01/2026 14:56

I would say give it a try and see? I have been myself uploading things lately as we are doing the house up and need to get rid of stuff in the attic/around the house that we don't use... It feels liberating and I have made quite a bit! I take The stuff that doesn't sell to the charity shop, and yes sometimes they have no space I have to bring it back!
I put reasonable prices, for me is also about avoiding waste. Also I buy from there sometimes, rather spend money on Vinted than Amazon

Yes this is what I will do.

I'm currently suffering from a bit of The Lurgy and below par, so next week will wash and photograph the stuff, and then off for some mid-January sunshine, so planning to Vint in February.

Was hoping for at least £20 for the SB tops and other stuff like Phase 8, Jigsaw, Boden, usual mid-range labels; if that's not achieved I'll take them to the charity shop. They are too good to languish in my wardrobe, and I want to de-clutter... usual New Year good intentions!

I don’t use Vinted as have heard bad things about their customer service where I am (Germany), but do use Kleinanzeigen (small ads) a national platform/ app which does a similar thing but without buyer/seller protection or oversight. If buying myself, I use a credit card on PayPal for items over a certain amount as both insure against fraud.

I sell mostly children’s clothes and toys, but also anything else we haven’t used in a while. I tend to take a decent photo once the item has been washed and ironed then do the listing in a spare 5 minutes, uploading them to the village WhatsApp second hand group at the same time. The items are stored in two big Ikea boxes until they’re bought.

I buy a lot second hand so can sell the stuff on again cheaply without it hurting. Individual listings tend to do better than bundles, although buyers will often buy a couple of things.

I only offer the delivery services that work for me - mostly the one the 24 hour garage near our village has a collection point for. I get them to print the labels for me - it’s free and saves time.

I keep the money on PayPal for when I‘m buying online. It’s nice to see that stuff we can no longer use has enabled us to buy something we want/ need.

If something doesn’t sell, is too expensive to post or just isn’t worth my while, I‘ll try to pass it on elsewhere. We don’t have charity shops here, but there’s a free book/game swap at work, and there’s usually someone who will benefit from your old stuff if you ask around. Kids’ stuff is currently going to the son of a friend of a friend who is struggling financially. Again with no marks or holes - these things should continue to be worn.

I just started on Vinted about six months ago.

You get some absolute CFs counteroffering bottom dollar for top brand stuff, even some that’s new with tags - ignore these people. Patience pays off.

I also invest time and effort in the item descriptions eg good pics and saying where, when and how much I bought the item.

I don’t bother selling anything for less than £10 - all that goes to charity.

MakeMineStrong · 02/01/2026 18:01

I bought and sold regularly until recently when I’ve been hit by two scams both of which Vinted found against me! 1) bought a Reiss jumper and was sent a primark coat. Vinted didn’t refund me! 2) sold a holister coat which buyer claimed never arrived in spite of the tracking showing as collected. Vinted didn’t pay me!
wont use again

FlyingPandas · 02/01/2026 19:03

I started selling on Vinted in April and have since made nearly £700 - I think it's worth it if you have the time and can access courier drop off points easily. We have Evri, InPost and Yodel options nearby so it's easy enough for me to drop stuff off to and from work or just when generally out and about.

I don't actually tend to sell that many clothes tbh. Most of my sales have been from toys, book sets, arts and crafts stuff and general bric a brac. It might sound like a faff to list items for just a few pounds but it's amazing how it all mounts up and I get a real buzz knowing that someone is going to get use out of something I don't need any more.

BeardedBarley · 02/01/2026 19:06

It’s so easy to sell on Vinted. Having said that, I just could not be bothered to sell stuff under £25. I’d rather bag that up and put in a clothes bank.
