Is it worth the hassle to sell on Vinted?

Thought I'd have a bit of a clear out, being New Year and all that!

I have stuff that is barely worn e.g. Sweaty Betty hoodie and running jacket, and unworn SB leggings; plus Boden dresses with tags, and various other lightly used stuff.

Am I likely to get a reasonable price or should I just take it to the charity shop?

It takes a few minutes to upload things, you won’t get massive amounts but you can choose your prices and see how it goes.

FanofLeaves · 31/12/2025 13:32

Selling the kind of stuff you’ve described, yes. Although it can be a bit quiet this side of Christmas.

redskydelight · 31/12/2025 13:32

The upload process is the quick bit.
I find the things that take time are figuring out what price to charge (which comes with experience) and doing things like providing extra measurements.

I try to list a few items every day, which puts you higher up on Vinted's search tool than listing loads of stuff all at once and feels less onerous just to set aside 10 minutes to do it.

I've also only picked the delivery options that are convenient for me so I can pretty much pop out the day of selling stuff.

I have a pile of packaging material to hand, so I can package straight away.

I have a minimum price of £4 that I will list for (and I'll take £3) as I decided less was not worth my while.
I don't sell anything with stains or blemishes as didn't want to get into disagreements/worry about describing.

It's not too much of a hassle once you are set up. I'm not getting rich quick but I'm making a few quid.

Roserunner · 31/12/2025 13:38

It's really quick to do and the sort of items you have go really quickly if you've priced them right.

Saxendi · 31/12/2025 13:50

Vinted is great!
It does take a little while taking photos and adding descriptions etc.
Don’t use Vinted suggestions for prices though, have a search yourself for similar items to what you want to list.

Strider55 · 31/12/2025 13:52

I don't sell high end brands, most of the stuff I sell is Next and I sell for £1-£2 most items. It's handy to build up a bit of a balance because I also buy from Vinted but I don't think anyone makes a fortune. If you price to high it won't sell because with postage and the Vinted guarantee (that does eff all) the buyer isn't getting much of a bargain.

That being said, I like knowing that someone else is getting a bargain from the things I'm selling and I also appreciate getting bargains from other people

Redburnett · 31/12/2025 13:55

Do not be misled by the number of views and favourites you get, IME not many will actually result in a sale, and most of my stuff is priced £5 and under.

travailtotravel · 31/12/2025 13:56

I've switched. People are after bargains but decent stuff sells ok. Most charity shops around my way are not accepting stuff so why not give it a try then if you can't shift it, you can then donate. Do take photos of the size labels though - its pish for sizing eg 12/14 = M so you need to be clear with pics and descriptions.

TwistedWonder · 31/12/2025 13:59

I buy and sell all the time on Vinted and it’s definitely worth it.

I tend to buy items that cost £100ish new, are being sold around £40-50, wear them once and sell them on for pretty much what I paid do I’ve got a constantly fresh wardrobe for very little cost.

Most of my items sell within 24 hours, sometimes within minutes.

Westfacing · 31/12/2025 14:05

I've just taken photos of the SB black running hoodie and cream zip-up thingy. Photos are terrible, makes them look like dish rags. Both items were bought 15 months ago and worn no more than about three times.

If I'm only going to get £4 it's not worth the hassle - but maybe I'll give it a go.

What would be your asking price for these items?

Daylight photos of you can (or move to a better naturally lit room) and use the ‘auto’ function in photo editing to sharpen them up a bit.

Westfacing · 31/12/2025 14:13

Yes the photos definitely need to be sharpened up a bit! Both items are lovely pieces and SB stuff is so well manufactured. I need to present them better.

Definitely worth it, it takes about a minute to list something. Unless the delivery places are far or out of your way that is. You’ll get a decent amount for those brands, especially the new stuff.

JadeSeahorse · 31/12/2025 14:19

For branded, high end stuff I would sell on eBay instead.

Unfortunately Vinted seems to be full of scammers these days - people buying stuff and claiming the package was empty, the item is not as described, fake etc. and Vinted virtually always sides with the buyer who then gets to keep the item plus receives a refund. It is virtually impossible to fight your corner as you are basically dealing with an automated service which appears to be rarely seen by a human being.

I am a buyer more than a seller but have returned predominantly to eBay as their customer service is so much better. You will also obtain a better price for your goods. I sold a pair of once worn gorgeous Van Dahl leather shoes which had been for sale on Vinted for weeks without a sniff of a sale. Switched to eBay and they sold within days and for more than I had them for sale on Vinted and using exactly the same photos.

Westfacing · 31/12/2025 14:27

Thank you all for your detailed replies - much appreciated!

I need to take some decent photos and decide on prices.

Those sorts of brands I'd expect to sell well. It's worth seeing what other people are listing similar items on there for, as a guide

ResusciAnnie · 31/12/2025 14:36

I only sell kids clothes and toys, toys especially sell really well. I put up some BNWT mini boden trousers yesterday for £7, someone offered £4.50 but I just ignore stupid offere. Sold for £7 and posted this morning.

Growlybear83 · 31/12/2025 14:47

It’s SO quick and easy to list things on Vinted, and I only use eBay now for higher priced items.

I think it’s really important to iron everything before you take photos, and to include the size label and fabric composition label. It’s also worth taking a few seconds to crop your photo so that you don’t have other distracting stuff in the background. When I’ve sold an item, I always message the buyer to thank them, and I aim to post everything the same or next day. If I’ve got a lot of items to sell, I buy a supply of tissue paper and mailing bags from eBay, usually with patterns or in bright colours to distinguish them if they get lost or stuck in the system, and I always include a small thank you card with a hand written message, which I usually pay £2.50 for a pack of 10. I think nice packaging and a personal thank you are important and make you stand out a bit as a seller.

most of the things I sell are new or have only been worn once or twice, and I would usually price things at between 30-40% of their original price and expect to drop to 25% for a quick sale. It really is very quick and easy and I’ve made over £5,000 selling things I no longer want over the last year or so.

Growlybear83 · 31/12/2025 14:50

I should also add that I’m aware there are a lot of scammers but I’ve never been scammed so far as a seller - I would never sell anything worth more than £75 on Vinted, and use eBay instead for high value items. The customer service at Vinted is truly dreadful, but I’ve always been able to get a refund for the small number of fake items I’ve purchased over the year, but you have to be persistent.

Squirrelchops1 · 31/12/2025 14:53

Sweaty Betty goes for a good price on vinted. Have a look at similar items.
Ive sold some branded stuff eg coast, mint velvet for a decent price

havingoneofthosedays · 31/12/2025 15:04

Pro vinted seller here.

SB sells very well especially this time of year. Do your research to make sure you're pricing the items correctly.

It's well worth it, enjoy!

Just don’t over price - and it will go quick.

TheOneWithTheGoat · 31/12/2025 16:22

Yes! I started selling November last year and have made approx £1300 selling stuff that was just lying around. Some stuff sells straight away, some stuff takes ages. I’ve literally just posted a parcel that I originally listed a year ago (you have to delete and relist every other month or so if not selling). But it’s not loads of effort.

ThatBrickHiker · 31/12/2025 17:59

Its well worth it as you get the price you want, rather than eBay taking their wedge. Go for it! Its not any hassle.
