I’m hosting a New Years Eve party and I’m really looking forward to it.
If you are, shall we chat about it?

Have fun. Think of those of us who are working.

mismomary · 30/12/2025 22:35

I haven't actually given NYE much thought. Some people from the village doing an afternoon pub crawl so might join that for a couple of legs then home for board game and telly. Wonder whether dominoes is open. Not even got any special food in. Though definitely have some champagne left over so all is not lost.

Shmee1988 · 30/12/2025 22:35

Yes we are having a party. 11 adults, 7 teenagers and 3 younger children. There will be food for the kids early evening and then take away for the rest of us. Games and drinks, then followed by a disco. Will all sit and watch Big Ben fireworks and midnight then everyone will go home. In bed by 1am ... cant wait

Yes, 4th time with same two families, minus my teens this year. Maybe next door neighbours as well, one family lives a fair distance away so it’s an annual catch up.

familyissues12345 · 30/12/2025 22:40

It’s a stretch to call it a party, but we’ve got DH’s brother and his wife staying and we’ll have a buffet tea. Numbers have slowly depleted, we’ve done this for the last 15 years, started with 5 children and tomorrow the final child will no longer be in attendance as he has a party to go to..!

user23442721 · 30/12/2025 22:41

No, but we're going to one.

We had a party on the 23rd then 16 for Christmas Eve and 10 for Christmas dinner, so looking forward to not hosting.

Your party sounds fab @Hephzibah64! Hope you all have a great (groovy?) time.

ExperiencedTeacher · 30/12/2025 22:43

Yep, our family and another family. Going out in the afternoon for an activity, Pizza Express for dinner then back for drinks, games and the countdown. Can’t wait!

SquigglePigs · 30/12/2025 22:43

Depends on your definition of a party I suppose. We're hosting friends for dinner and games, see in the New Year etc. Total there will be 4 adults and 3 kids age 5-9 so wouldn't really call it a party but it will be fun!

Helplessandheartbroke · 30/12/2025 22:47

Yep :) about 20 of us. My mum is taking ds home with her around 9 so he can chill and me and dh can relax too. Brisket, pulled pork, gammon, potato hash a few drinks and games

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/12/2025 22:52

I love a house party and would love to host more of them but no one wants to do anything these days 🥱
we are going to dh’s parents to see in the new year, there will be 20 of us there, but it won’t be a party as such, more everyone sitting and drinking wine and talking about kids and work 🥱

FrostyFlo · 30/12/2025 22:58

Always in bed before 12 . But unfortunately have seen the nearby pub/ small hotel is having a party and letting off fireworks at midnight 😤

Florencesndzebedee · 30/12/2025 22:59

Sounds like fun but had to laugh at ‘volovonts’. These would go nicely with the ‘horsdevrers’ from another thread.

EllaPaella · 30/12/2025 22:59

For the first time since 2021 we aren’t going to or hosting a party. I love a NYE celebration but we’re going on holiday on the 3rd so decided to have a quiet night in as we’ll need to pack and put away the Christmas decorations on NYD while off work.
I’m working tomorrow but DH is doing slow cooked beef for dinner and the DC are in charge of deserts. We’ll have a bottle of fizz, play some cards/board games and Sing Star and see the new year in. We’ve been invited out with friends on NYD but I want a quiet day as working again on the 2nd.

emmetgirl · 30/12/2025 23:02

I can’t think of anything worse

Kitkate21 · 30/12/2025 23:06

I'm usually just chilling and in bed early but this year I've somehow ended up hosting teenage party as partner is offshore. They are a lovely bunch of teenagers to be fair. But stressing slightly about the mess. I will be upstairs pampering myself 🤣 apparently doing a load of party food is not cool..... But for grown ups.... I love the good old party food 😊

pinkpony88 · 30/12/2025 23:10

God no!

WheresMyWimpleCrimper · 30/12/2025 23:17

Not hosting this year, but off to friends' for a pub name fancy dress party. We met this group of friends at mother and toddler group 28 years ago, and we've spent most new year's eves together since. We may not see each other so much these days, but we love our NYE get together, and our now adult DC always come if they can.

Have a fab night OP. I love a 70s party!

CNDflag · 30/12/2025 23:18

We’re going to my best friend and husbands..we do alternate years. He is a great cook and making us beef Wellington. Taking our kids with us, so will eat, drink some fizz and watch the fireworks on tv then bed.
I’m going dry for 3 months from Jan 1st, so last drinks for a while 🥂🍷🍾🍸

You can't think of anything worse than a house party with friends? Ok.

changedmyname24 · 30/12/2025 23:49

We are doing nothing & I'm gutted really. We have been invited to my sister's but it's an hour away & our DC would be the only kids there so it wouldn't be great. I have sent round a last minute invite in case any of our friends are free & want to join us but met with firm nos all round - which is fair enough as I get people have plans. I'm trying to persuade DH to at least go to fireworks in the next village at 7.15 & then chill out, but he is flat out refusing. So it will be another night in watching TV & ignoring each other!

In previous years we have stayed round our friends' house but we feel like we have outgrown that now as the kids are older & don't have much in common any more. We were at sister's last year & it was tricky as DC were bored & tired.

I hate NYE this year 😔

Hephzibah64 · 30/12/2025 21:34

Oops I forgot this is mn where people don’t answer the door let alone throw a party😀
Im doing a 1970s themed party (optional fancy dress) volovants, cheese and pineapple hedgehog, devilled eggs and a glass of cream sherry or babysham (other drinks will be available 😀)
I have a retro maxi dress and I’ve been Googling 70s make up, looks like blue eyeshadow and pink lipstick were all the rage😀
Should be around 25 people mix of family and friends.
I’m working till 3 so beginning to slightly panic about the prep!

Please tell me you are going to play Demis Roussos OP?

You also need fags and a gold lighter.

Candymay · 30/12/2025 23:58

PhantomAfternoonTea · 30/12/2025 20:29

Yep, a pizza party for one (me)! 🥳

I love this idea! My favourite type of party.

in reality I’ll do some nice food for the children. They might have a friend or two over. No alcohol. Nothing big.

we will watch Jools Holland.

then bed. So no party as such but maybe a bit of hootin and hollerin. A few texts to friends and neighbours and a post on here no doubt.

happy New Year’s Eve Eve.

TumbledTussocks · 30/12/2025 23:59

we are having a party too! love your theme. wish we’d gone with one now but christmas has been non stop already - all joy though. Have a great time OP.

UnderThePressure · 31/12/2025 00:01

My DH is going to a pub with his friend, my DDs aged 21 and 18 and I didn't fancy it so we'll stay in, have a takeaway, play games and watch the London fireworks on TV. We did hold parties for about 8 years when the children were young. They were fun, but I've done my time!
