My husband and I will be cosying up with just drinks and nibbles, watching it on TV. We don’t want to be outside. Too cold....

We will stay home with our dogs.

We have done most of the big New Year’s Eve displays in the past and the only one that lived up to expectations was Sydney (probably because it was warm!)

Natsku · 30/12/2025 16:48

We do our own fireworks every year, and watch the display from various houses in the neighbourhood as they set off theirs. We're going down the beach to do ours though, so not so near houses and pets.

I know a lot of people going to see a big display at a nearby ski centre but the last thing I want to do on new years eve is drive somewhere.

Christmaseree · 30/12/2025 16:54

My DH and I are going to for dinner in a restaurant that has music and dancing afterwards with some friends.
I am really looking forward to it as have done a lot of cooking and wore cosy lounge wear over Christmas so it will be fun to dress up.

We're going to ring out the Old year and ring in the New in our church tower.

merrypoet · 30/12/2025 17:14

Staying in and partying like we usually do as we have a perfect view of the Eye from our flat.

Docsoane · 30/12/2025 17:21

We can usually see the London fireworks from our window. We stay in with our 2 young dcs, and they and DH are fast asleep at midnight. I'm usually awake watching the fireworks and something on TV.

Igmum · 30/12/2025 17:43

Staying in with the cats and hoping for the day people buy silent fireworks.

Fernsrus · 30/12/2025 22:13

I can’t see the need for fireworks at new year.

Same. Tranquilising our poor dogs, who are prescribed diazepam by the vet due to the stress that fireworks cause them.

And even if you hate cats and dogs, imagine how awful the fireworks must be for wildlife 😢. Bad enough for me (autistic) but at least I can prepare with earplugs etc.

Its the only time of the year the general public are allowed fireworks in my country so people do want to set off fireworks, its tradition, much like fireworks on the 5th of November in the UK. But here it only happens one night, between 6pm and 2am rather than at any time of the year for various reasons (according to friends in the UK) so a pretty reasonable compromise between those that enjoy fireworks and those that don't.

Flatandhappy · 31/12/2025 03:07

We are in Sydney where the NYE fireworks are spectacular but there is no way I would brave the crowds any more. People are queuing from early morning for a good position - first fireworks at 9pm. We had a few years of access to office buildings with views (best situation with fridges for drinks and toilets) and one year where we were given tickets for Navy family access to Garden Island with spectacular views, but after the 9pm fireworks finish the idea of sitting there until midnight then trying to get home after has never appealed. Good friends who we always spent NYE with dumped us the year other friends got a new place with harbour views 😂 We will watch them on TV and be in bed by 12.15am.

FollowSpot · 31/12/2025 08:06

Spending the evening with friends whose flat has a brilliant view of the London fireworks.

vanillalattes · 31/12/2025 08:17

I’ll be in bed asleep by midnight - fireworks are overrated and my bed is warm 😂

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 31/12/2025 08:21

We are staying in. I'm working today and CBA to go out. Plus our dog really doesn't like fireworks so we will be cuddling him on the sofa whilst watching a film. I'm not sure I'll still be awake at midnight though.

750ml · 31/12/2025 08:24

Going for dinner at a friends house and then we’ll walk up to a local viewpoint where you can see fireworks all over London - it’s great.

SecretWitch · 31/12/2025 08:30

Staying home. Lots of delicious snacks, fire going and movies all lined up.

Imagine how awful pets are for wildlife...

I’ll be in bed early, as on shift again tomorrow.

Me too, my cat was really scared over Diwali. We’ll have the curtains closed & music on.

I’m celebrating on New Year’s Day instead.

Yes but in the uk it’s happening several times a year. It’s awful for the environment.

DinoLil · 31/12/2025 21:31

I've been in bed since about 8pm so no going out for me.

I do have an elderly dog who is terrified of a leaf blowing past the front door but seems to be oblivious to fireworks.

My last dog climbed on my head, screaming, every time. I do miss him.

Atm there is the odd huge bang, old lady is on my bed. The only recognition of a firework is a massive foul fart, loud snore, fidget and snoring again.

There really is no need for people to buy fireworks anymore. There are some great public displays to enjoy. If you can't be bothered to go out and watch a display, there are loads live streaming.

DinoLil · 31/12/2025 21:34

@Binus which breed of pet??

AmaniVibes · 31/12/2025 21:36

I had a day spent with friends, chatting and then shopping for food. Now I'm looking forward to relaxing and snacking. When it's nearly time, I will switch my TV on. I used to love going out, but now I don't like crowded places.
