Not sure what made me think of this. Hypothetically, if he were to be released in the future (unlikely but possible), would he able to live anywhere near the area he used to live? I assume they'd try to prevent it but could they enforce it?

Why do you think it wasn't a community thing? It really was. Have a google.

in what sense? It was his family, it didn’t involve anyone else.
There weren’t events before that impacted the community (directly- of course anyone would be upset by murders happening nearby) the area is rural, so him living nearby doesn’t mean the next street. what reason would there be that he couldn’t live in say Colchester?

In what sense what? Of course this affected the community - you don't have to be a member of the family or living next door to be affected by a family annihilation happening in your local area. I know the area is rural and sometimes that makes it a thousand times worse - people rurally have a conflict of feeling more safe by being away from others but more unsafe in the event that they are attacked because there is no nearest help.

Tolleshunt D'Arcy is tiny, but is still a community and a place where people left things unlocked even then. I'm not a parole officer so asking me where he can or can't live is daft, but you have to understand that people in the area lived through this horror and would be doubly traumatised by him returning to the place? I mean that's common sense, let alone what the parole system says. Maybe Colchester is fine, maybe it's not - they set limits based on knowledge not speculation.

They are 2 different things- would a mass murder 40 years ago affect a local community- yes- but is that impact enough to mean that the guilty person should be legally prevented from returning once their sentence is served?.
I would suggest banning them in some way is quite an infringement of their liberty and that “community impacted by it happening” isn’t a very strong argument to justify that?

but neither am I a probation officer, I am simply asking why would this quite severe restriction would be placed when it’s not as though ie survivors still live there.

Who do you class as survivors in your world view of this? His family live in the farm. The ones he didn't murder.

If Ian Huntley is ever released (on the same tariff) should he be allowed to go back to Soham in 20 years if both Holly and Jessica's families have moved away?

I can’t answer your questions - there is a challenge in them that doesn’t actually align to my posts so I’m not sure what you want.

I don't know how to make them clearer or to more align with what you asked.

There isn’t anything for you to answer, maybe that’s the misunderstanding

Tigerbalmshark · 27/12/2025 23:16

If he was ever released it would be because his sentence was quashed, ie he was no longer legally guilty. So I’m not sure anyone could stop him from living anywhere he pleased. Whether it would be a good idea to move back to the scene of the crime is obviously a different matter.

(I don’t think his sentence will ever be quashed).

Oh I thought this was going to be about that good looking actor

Who am I thinking of then?

Yes I'm the dolt, which is what you are suggesting. I think other people could read my posts fairly clearly.
