How often do you cry?

I hardly ever cry, just in relation to someone dying really. I have a friend who's quite emotional, I've seen her cry from frustration over quite small things. And many Mumsnetters seem prone to crying! So I would go years without crying, this seems quite normal to me. Well, actually, funnily enough I can cry at a film! Other than that, funerals and big things only. What about others?

At least once a week, usually prompted by TV, music or thinking about the complete lack of freedom I have because of my life choices.

jjeoreo · 26/12/2025 19:45

Probably 3 or 4 times a week but I don't think it's a bad thing
Never about sad things happening to me, or rarely ever
But I think that ok..tears are compassion for yourself. It's normally songs, tv, etc. I cried multiple times during our local crib service, just the sheer beauty of the songs we've been singing for hundreds of years about a young mother and her love for her baby

Not enough. Major bereavements, animal or human. Its always a relief so I don't think I cry enough the rest of the time.

MittensTheKittens · 26/12/2025 20:20

Almost never, I haven't cried for years.
I also don't shout and get angry very often.

I talk things through, consider my options and have a creative swear.

uhtredofbattenberg · 26/12/2025 20:23

Not often now. Last felt like crying about 2 months ago. Can't remember what about but I felt better the next day.

Wow, such variation. The people who cry daily, is that because of difficulties in your life, or because of your emotional setting, do you think?

Daily at the moment - sometimes all day

I’m grieving and have had some devasting family news just before Xmas - Xmas has made everything worse

when I’m ok - not that often

Bowling4soup · 26/12/2025 20:29

All the time. Usually at sad/cute videos when im
scrolling. There’s some bluey episodes I cry at (baby race 😭) I do wish I cried less. I have cried in the toilet at work after a mean customer shouted at me for example. I wish I had more control over it

winterwarmer8274 · 26/12/2025 20:31

Probably once a week, but yeah my life is a bit shit right now that a lot triggers me :(

louderthan · 26/12/2025 22:55

At least once a day. Perimenopausal, under a lot of stress with work and a family situation, also going through a delayed grieving process for my dad who died when I was a child. I have been in therapy for over two years, without that I think I would have had a breakdown or seriously harmed myself by now.
But nobody would know, I have a 30-second cry in the loos at work and then go and run a workshop or attend a high-level governance meeting.

Rarely these days. I have grown less emotional as I have aged. Able to shrug things off more. One of the benefits of ageing.

I think you're right for me dry eyes have come with age. I did cry three years ago when our dog died. I've endured awful pain the last couple of years with no tears at all.

It does worry me sometimes.

thishouseisashittip · 26/12/2025 23:04

Not often enough I don't think. Tend to bottle things up. Has been a good while since that last time

RaraRachael · 26/12/2025 23:06

Never

yonem · 26/12/2025 23:06

Probably about twice a month, usually the week before my period. At the time it seems like I’m crying over nothing but it’s just that the cause is hormonal rather than an event.

billiongulls · 27/12/2025 03:07

Sorry to hear about the hard times some people are going through

Crying is 100% one of the biggest outlets when I'm having an autistic meltdown or feeling overstimulated or dysregulated at all, so my frequency of crying depends very much on what is going on in my life and how well I'm managing my needs. Coming up to Christmas, there were a lot of tears, some more dramatic than others. However, since my diagnosis and understanding my neurology better, I've found I cry far less often than I used to. When my children were young, it would sometimes be several times a day.

This is is the same as me. I also shed tears when I watch certain reels on Facebook about animals or children but they are normally happy tears.

YellowCherry · 27/12/2025 07:01

Very rarely about real life - just at funerals really. But I'm easily set off by fictional events and cry quite frequently (say once every few weeks) when reading a book or watching a film.

ChiefCakeTestertoMaryBerry · 27/12/2025 07:03

I think the last time was 2.5 years ago. I used to cry quite often and easily as a child/teen but can go years without crying these days.
