DS has got a virus, which means he's coughing lots, achy, headache etc. He was off Monday, went in today, but is really not right.
I've got work tomorrow. (Can be home within 10 minutes) As he'll be sleeping all day, would you stay with him, or go into work, but would leave if needed? He's in year 8, so is 13.

I have never left my year 8 child home alone when well, although he has walked home from school occasionally. Don't think I would leave dh home alone all day when ill tbh, never mind the dc.

Seriously? What would you do if you had to go to work and your DH was at home with a cold?

I left my 11 (very nearly 12) year old home when she was ill last week, DH and I were both in charge at our places of work so our only option for childcare was my MIL who is having chemo so wasn’t an option at all.

Had she been vomiting or had diarrhoea or it had been her 10 year old sister one of would have stayed home but she had similar symptoms to your son, headache, coughing and generally feeling crappy. She lay on the couch all day watching TV and dozing. I work 5 minutes walk away, DH works two minutes walk away in the other direction. We both came home for lunch at different times and she text me every hour when she was alone. She was absolutely fine.

Sorry, I wasn't thinking of a cold, I was thinking more serious illnesses like 40 degree fevers, haemorrhage, the kind of sickness bug where you can't make it to the bathroom. Dh works self employed from home and I am carer to our disabled child so we tend to dose up on meds and push through with any illness like a cold, tonsilitis, chest infection etc.

The OP was describing fairly mild symptoms though, not anything serious.

He survived! Think he enjoyed having the house to himself 😂
