Without thinking, first impulse thought, what would you give her for a present? Budget up to £200. She has a well paid job and quite simple tastes. Preferably a thing not a voucher.

I do have one. My first thought was tickets to a show in London and hotel booking because musical theatre is her hobby. Depends what your DD’s interests are. As it happens she’s asked for money towards a specialist hair appointment so that’s what she’ll get.

This is what I do:

I ask her what she wants and she sends me a link for her main present which is usually something like jeans or boots or a jacket.

Then I get her surprise stuff that I know she likes - books, toiletries, clothes, tea, hot chocolate, sweet treats, for example.

Are you my mum? I'm 30 soon, I'd like my kids to go to granny's for a night so I can sleep 🤣

GlassofRosePorfavor · 14/12/2025 23:17

A month of reformer Pilates classes

Crispynoodle · 14/12/2025 23:23

I bought mine some Tiffany jewellery

Oh that was the eldest for my middle one I took her on holiday!

Fernsrus · 14/12/2025 23:28

My dd likes nice things for her flat

Skyflyinghigh · 15/12/2025 16:16

nice simple piece of jewellery that she can keep? I’m buying my DS a dress watch that he can keep ( and he wants) for his 30th

My eldest DD will be 30 next year.
My first thought was art.
Then reading through - she'd enjoy Lego, theatre tickets or tokens, lots of small gifts (she loves opening presents 😂), possibly a new hairdryer/nice hairbrush, decent boots, a good bag. A cat 😂 Doesn't wear any jewellery.
We're planning a weekend away together as well.

Second DD turns 30 18 months later - the list of suggestions will be quite different, although probably would also include Lego and haircare! She loves jewellery.

My daughter would like jewellery or tickets for a musical (Into the Woods or Cabaret). She's also like art supplies and make up but those seem less of a big birthday thing.

Btowngirl · 15/12/2025 16:56

A really classy/timeless item. I got a gorgeous bag for my 18th that I’ve still got at 34, got a lovely purse for my 30th.

bridgetjonesmassivepants · 15/12/2025 17:06

I was given a massive lot of Denby crockery that my mum had got at an auction. Have had them for nearly 20 years and they get used every day and remind me of her.

I was never in to jewellery or girlie stuff, I always wanted stuff for the house but nice stuff like a Dualit toaster or some Le Crusuet. (Can't spell it)

Cynic17 · 15/12/2025 17:14

Ask her! She's not a little kid, she doesn't need a surprise. Or go shopping together, so you can have lunch as well.
Otherwise, every 30 year old is different, so it's impossible to guess.
I would also suggest just one item (ie something she may not buy herself, as she considers it too expensive), rather than multiple cheaper items, which will just get chucked or ignored.

Marble10 · 15/12/2025 17:32

I’m a little over 30 now 😉 so not presents from
mum anymore. I still love good presents. My son got me some beautiful antique gold earrings which I adore, DH always gets me something designer & luxurious: bags/purse/perfume/shoes/dressing gown.
Jewellery and bags I find last a while and can be treasured forever. But totally understand she may not be into those type of things!

awaynboilyurheid · 15/12/2025 17:42

I’d say having daughters who have just passed this, take her out shopping for jewellery and then afternoon tea somewhere posh!
