If you had a daughter about to turn 30..

Without thinking, first impulse thought, what would you give her for a present? Budget up to £200. She has a well paid job and quite simple tastes. Preferably a thing not a voucher.

OP posts:

Recently turned 30, if you’re going off age alone, a voucher or money. What kind of things is she into?

Bimmering · 13/12/2025 12:10

A classic piece of jewellery was my gut instinct - like a pair of pearl earrings

MrsPositivity1 · 13/12/2025 12:14

A piece of jewellery

Whatisgoingoff2024 · 13/12/2025 12:15

As a daughter who has just turned 30, I really hoped for a spa day.

bettyboo9 · 13/12/2025 12:16

A ring

Stickthatupyourdojo · 13/12/2025 12:18

For my 30th my mum got me a David Austin rose and a decent bluetooth speaker with good sound quality. 10 years on my rose has survived a move to our “probably forever” house/garden and the speaker is used nearly daily, despite me not really thinking I’d need one.

For you maybe. Plenty of people enjoy them and I’ve never struggled to book them.

I agree. I would far rather have that than Lego. The poster said you can never be too old to Lego. Trust me, you can be, I’d think my mum had lost the plot if she bought me Lego.

it shows that everyone is different. OP did you ask her what she would like. Personally I have always been of the jewellery handbag and spa persuasion but as you can see, not everyone is

HollyGolightly4 · 13/12/2025 12:20

Honestly, my best present from my parents was my le creuset cooking pot. I adore it and it gets used weekly.

I'm 69 and male, each year they ask me this, each year I say a Hornby train set or a Scalextric. I never get one. I've got lots of socks, pants and ties though...

Why don't you buy yourself one?

Definitely! I get asking for ideas but people are so different. My sister would definitely love Lego, not normal ones but you can get them like flowers and things now. I’m not a fan of jewellery. But I have some hobbies that people can always buy things for.

BlueberryOats · 13/12/2025 12:26

Monica Vinader earrings? Single black pearl necklace?

ParmaVioletTea · 13/12/2025 12:30

A good handbag or a cashmere jumper or a nice piece of jewellery. There’s a sho in my town that imports a lot of really lovely stuff from India - nice stuff with semi-precious stones. Amethyst or moonstones or something like that (they’re my favourites).

holdingontoholidays · 13/12/2025 12:31

A necklace or bangle?
Apple headphones
Dyson or shark hair dryer

Out of all I’d appreciate a nice piece of jewellery from my mum because it’s special and not something I’d splash out on for myself but would treasure and feel good wearing it.

I think something like this is a good shout too - something high quality that you use everyday

The le creuset tableware is lovely too - I have a set of the rainbow mugs which are just so nice to use

ChristmasinBrighton · 13/12/2025 12:41

Mine is 28.

Her favourite perfume is £200 a bottle.

Cashmere jumper is a good shout.

Dutchhouse14 · 13/12/2025 12:41

Well not every 30 year old woman has the same taste.
But Id probably go for jewellery.
Second hand/antique would make the budget go further

Alicorn1707 · 13/12/2025 12:45

@CurlewKate

If you're looking for something special that she'd love and be able to wear/keep as a reminder of her 30th from her parents then;

Etsy is a fantastic starting place for ideas, there are so many talented UK artisans.

e.g. Jewellery or something for her home?

Some other examples here and here, have a wee google.

Allthesnowallthetime · 13/12/2025 12:52

A drone (because I know she'd like one).

mondaytosunday · 13/12/2025 13:05

A nice Watch?

Newsenmum · 13/12/2025 13:08

money towards a trip or night in nice hotel/afternoon tea? But I know you were thinking “thing”.

mathanxiety · 13/12/2025 15:01

Perfume
KitchenAid
Le Creuset

I got my now older than 30 DDs perfume for their 30th, after finding out what perfume they loved/ wanted. There's nothing worse than a big bottle of unloved perfume.

I got mine jewellery with her birthstone incorporated in it, i also got her hoodie from etsy with her birth year on it.

BigOldBlobsy · 13/12/2025 15:08

Well. I know as an early 30 something I’d like:

A lovely expensive/high quality ingredients shower set
Nice perfume
Jewellery (solid gold or silver)
Expensive colouring pens and books
A posh set of chocolates and nice meal out

BadgernTheGarden · 13/12/2025 15:11

Isekaied · 13/12/2025 11:56

No please don't.

These are bad gifts.

So difficult to book.
Especially if its an experience i would never choose myself.

Yes, and is it for one or two and who do you take if it's for two and do you want to go alone if it's for one and how do you get there. Could be more of a problem than a gift. Could be a great idea but I can envisage so many problems.

Maireas · 13/12/2025 15:13

How about a pair of aquamarine earrings or small pendant?
I'm guessing it's the same daughter - correct me if I'm wrong 😊
