Thinking of switching from Asda to Morrisons for my budget shop?

Sarcastic Season 9 GIF by The Office

Yes, a very exciting post from me 😭

So i do a big shop at asda every month, then a shop at lidl. Also pop to sainsburys for stuff i cant get at asda, and top ups.

The asda app is a nightmare! Its shite!

Has anyone swapped? Is the fivers reward scheme a match for asda's one? Is the stock similar?

I do always find asda to be well stocked and to have a good range of meat, and discounted, yellow sticker stuff

I popped into Morrisons today, didnt realise that there are two big ones near me - the nearest asda is 30 mins drive, which is another factor

Anyway let me know what you think? Asda or Morrisons?

I shop in Sainsbury's. I don't like the quality of Asda stuff, and our local Morrison's is really poorly run, with stock issues and gaps on the shelves. I do like Morrison's cheese counter, fishmonger and butcher, although I have a feeling they're being discontinued in all stores soon.

Asda shopper for past 21 years ,it's getting better again although fruit and veg can be a bit meh but I think that goes for most places apart from Markies.
I may be wee bit biased as we get 15%staff discount 20%next week😁

We tried Morrisons as a change to tesco once (I drive past Morrisons on my way home from work). It was fecking expensive. Excellent bakery, fish and meat, but we spent ££££

Youre lucky, no discount here for me

I do like asda as its familiar 😄😄, i always find myself thinking 'what would the equivalent be in asda'

Sainsburys is pricey 😭 but nice

Can't say I shop at either regularly as they are not in our town but if I had the choice of them both in our town I'd choose Morrisons every time.

mattbee · 09/12/2025 21:31

I switched for exactly this reason. The Morrisons app works consistently, and has a lower minimum order. Everything else (quality, price, delivery slot availability) seems the same.

Wow really?

I only bought two things today, some carpet spray and some chocolate cakes for dd

Didn't properly mooch but will go on the app now and do my usual shop and see the price

My life is exciting 😄

From asda?

Honestly, asdas apps are a nightmare! Same with the george app, just deleted it in the end and use the website if I need something!

Morrison’s isn’t cheap anymore IME

I agree it's tough trying to strike that balance between cost /budget and still be enjoyable.
Personally I think since Brexit quality has gone down overall

Rubyandrewsjustlovingyou · 09/12/2025 21:39

I should add I shop in-store and go raking down the crates, backs of shelves for best dates etc

Can't see the pickers doing that as time is of the essence for them.

Ilikewinter · 09/12/2025 21:45

I find Morrisons to be expensive - having said that they have a fab cake department !!

Seriously? <dismayed>

I’ve always liked Morrisons and Sainsbury’s. They also both do really nice children’s clothes.

Dr13Hadley · 09/12/2025 21:46

I stopped getting Morrisons deliveries about 18 months ago when I realised buying delivery from Ocado was cheaper! Our nearby in store Morrisons are awful. Asda is ok, Sains too expensive and shelves empty so I tend to top up at Tesco. We have mini, small,
medium, large and extra large Tescos within a 15 min drive from us. I manage to get a fair amount of club card points that I convert to money off vouchers.

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 09/12/2025 22:01

Morrisons used to be brilliant, but has definitely gone downhill in the last 3 or 4 years. Prices have gone up considerably, and they have discontinued a whole load of their own-brand ranges which were pretty good. The quality of their ready meals in particular has gone through the floor now.

These days I prefer Sainsburys, Aldi and Lidl. If I had to choose one of those three I don't know which I'd go for.

Yes, from ASDA. The app is so hostile - errors during payment, errors selecting a slot, and the product lists render so slowly that you're constantly mis-selecting products & quantities.

ASDA strongly made out that they were replacing it in the summer, and it's exactly as bad as before.

It's a bit less awful if you use it on a regular computer, but still quite bad.

I've tried Tesco & Sainsburys & Ocado occasionally but the Morrisons app seems fastest and easiest to use.

Was it ever?
The service isn't good, either. Always long queues at the checkouts except that they are trying to move you on to self-service. Except that the machines are often on the blink especially, for some reason, the ones that will accept cash

Dr13Hadley · 09/12/2025 22:10

For those liking the Morrisons app, the Ocado one is very similar.

Yeah I've always thought Morrisons was expensive, it gives a good impression from the outside of being cheap but it's not really....

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/12/2025 22:20

Both are too pricey. Aldi is your friend.

ponygirlcurtis · 09/12/2025 22:24

The recent Asda website and app 'makeover' were the final nail in the coffin for me, along with constantly out of stock items and poor quality food. I swapped to Aldi and worked out I was saving at least £10 per week, which was a big enough saving to ditch my delivery saver that I have had for years.

OopsieeDaisy · 09/12/2025 22:25

We switched to Sainsbury’s a while back due to issues with the quality of meat/fruit/veg/eggs from Aldi and Tesco. So much stuff is Aldi price matched that it doesn’t actually work out much more expensive and I’m happy to pay a little more for better quality.

Bottlesofrumonthewall · 09/12/2025 22:25

you could do a budget shop at Asda if you changed what you ate
Not sure why you think another shop would be much different in price for the same stuff
