Thinking of switching from Asda to Morrisons for my budget shop?

Sarcastic Season 9 GIF by The Office

Yes, a very exciting post from me 😭

So i do a big shop at asda every month, then a shop at lidl. Also pop to sainsburys for stuff i cant get at asda, and top ups.

The asda app is a nightmare! Its shite!

Has anyone swapped? Is the fivers reward scheme a match for asda's one? Is the stock similar?

I do always find asda to be well stocked and to have a good range of meat, and discounted, yellow sticker stuff

I popped into Morrisons today, didnt realise that there are two big ones near me - the nearest asda is 30 mins drive, which is another factor

Anyway let me know what you think? Asda or Morrisons?

Agree with others that Morrisons is expensive and get more for my money at Tesco but just go because its convenient. The quality of their meat is very good, especially the stuff from their own butchers. I've not tried the meat that's bought in pre-packed. But they do support British farmers which I like. Fish counter also good and they have 20% off on a Friday.

The reward card has improved and it is easier and quicker to accumulate points for the £5 vouchers and the offers are more relevant to me now than what they used to be.

TBH I'd always choose Morrisons over ASDA cos I hate ASDA.

SpikeGilesSandwich · 09/12/2025 22:29

I’d go with Morrisons because they do use more local produce when they can and the meat is good. Tesco is the worst imo, all their meat is halal and inhumane Angry

I trialled this too. Been an asda online shopper for years, but the website has been shite for months now - either blocks me, won't take payment, or poor stock issues (though I think this has improved).
I tried Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Tesco, but found them all more expensive than Asda for the branded items we like , and Morrisons was the most expensive, which surprised me.
So I'm back with asda, and then do a top up shop most weeks for some nicer stuff at either Tesco or Sainsbury's.

For budget to middle range, has to be Aldi every time.

We switched to Sainsbury’s a while back due to issues with the quality of meat/fruit/veg/eggs from Aldi and Tesco. So much stuff is Aldi price matched that it doesn’t actually work out much more expensive and I’m happy to pay a little more for better quality.

I agree with this. Plus there's the Nectar points which pay a huge amount towards our Christmas food and drink.

Agree that the app is now awful. It is so slow and glitchy. Everytime I do the weekly shop, I think that next time I need to switch to a different supermarket.

Tdcp · 09/12/2025 23:21

I tend to do asda for the big shop then get meat and fruit from morrisons as a rule though it's 3 minutes from me so I do too up shops there a lot...Morrisons is expensive for every day stuff. I'm trying to do aldi but I can't quite get into it, I think it's probably the lack of scan it yourself handsets tbf 😂

mumofoneAloneandwell · 10/12/2025 10:20

I have a discount for ocado so will do a xmas shop there but its too expensive

Morrisons seems okay so far, on the app, zero glitching - I havent checked out meat yet

Ime nothing other than lidl and aldi beat asda on price

Tesco has some nice bits - great for plate sets!

I use Morrisons and find them good for basic stuff. We save a significant amount of money from buying everything in the small local CoOp. Basics like butter, flour, kitchen roll are much cheaper. They are reliable and pleasant to deal with. Their app and website rarely have problems.
We buy a midweek 'pass' which gives unlimited deliveries Tues - Thurs, £5 monthly.
Some of their 'finest' own brand including oat biscuits and wild mushroom soup is really good, some barely eatable, including the sausages.

Some people would argue that all meat eating is inhumane, no matter how the animal is killed!

SomewhatMental · 11/12/2025 09:16

I've got a bit of inside experience with morrisons as part of my job...i had to order non food stock using their system and the software is terrible..you order in stock and it doesn't arrive, so youre told to just keep ordering until it does. In comparison to Tesco they are about a decade behined in that sense..tesco and sainsburys you gap scan daily and orders will be triggered.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 12/12/2025 18:04

I buy loads and loads of sausages @GeorgieFG - will check morrisons out in the new year for meat as good quality meat is the most important

Tbh @SomewhatMental I can imagine because tbh morrisons does feel 10 years behind its peers. Shopping there feels nostalgic, even though I've been a handful of times 😄

Girls, I went to asda today and bought 6kg worth of chicken breast for about £30!

And they had whole ducks discounted to £4.50, so i bought three! My freezer is about to be so full!! 😭

All my asda woes were forgotten as I excitedly packed the trolley

Still so expensive for other stuff though, and i'm yet to see whether I got anything in the way of reward points

I dont think any shop does yellow sticker discounts like asda

I've got an ocado voucher so will hopefully buy the christmas meat from there 👀👀

Morrisons do good free range chicken. Steer clear of the sausages!

sanityisamyth · 12/12/2025 18:34

I switched to Tesco as can’t figure the “updated” Asda app out at all.

Crystallllll · 12/12/2025 18:38

Morrisons is bloody expensive . I had some vouchers but regret going there as it wasn’t worth it. Aldi is definitely best value.
