My aunt won a good few hundred grand and some smaller grands.

I was more excited about my friend who won the ads on Ant & Decs takeaway show lol

littlebilliie · 09/12/2025 21:14

I know a few big winners. All happy contented people

RandomMess · 09/12/2025 21:20

around 1995 colleague won £120k, such a lot of money at the time. Bought a house in the SE no mortgage

Badanxiety · 09/12/2025 21:29

my best friend at the time husband won £1million on the millionaire maker, he left her not long after as she was playing away and we are no longer friends. I bump into him now and again and he’s doing well

cotswoldsgal1234 · 09/12/2025 21:33

Yes…. Someone I know won the Euro millions

VWT7 · 09/12/2025 21:33

I only know this 4th hand and in a very different part of UK to where I live….elderly man won life-changing amount but refused to engage with it at all, he lived a simple life, rode a bike.
A friend drove him to meetings with finance and investment advisors but he refused to engage in the process. Grown up children were struggling, unable to replace broken white goods - oblivious to DF situation, someone who felt sorry for him was cooking meals for him. Very frustrating for those few individuals around him who knew, who helped him but who could do nothing.
He could have done so much good, his family didn’t need to be struggling. He died.

I knew someone work colleague who won millions and sailed round the world etc.
I also knew someone who watched his first five numbers drop live but not the sixth, like 1500 to 6 million. Never fully recovered

Chalices · 09/12/2025 21:37

There’s two euro millions millionaire maker a week, plus the occasional 10 millionaires, plus the two monthly premium bond million pounds, plus scratch cards, plus jackpots of which at least 2 a month on average must be a million plus win.

So that’s approximately 150- 200 new millionaires a year in the UK.

I don’t think I know anyone who’s won big though do have my suspicions about a school mum who massively upgraded every aspect of her life and quit her job a few years ago 🤣
So it’s nice to hear the nice stories of people doing well on it.

GellerYeller · 09/12/2025 21:40

I knew someone who won the jackpot twice in two different work syndicates. Think they had low six figures the second time . This is about 20 years ago-they were close to retirement age and got a nicer caravan, that sort of thing.

Yes, one of the school mums (before she was a mum and single) won about 2 million on the lottery. Had a low paying job. Quit work and bought a house in a nice area.

Is now married and has a couple of DC. Doesn't work. Her husband does and then have what looks like a normal lifestyle. She never talks about it but now and again is in the lottery 'news' getting involved in charity events with a back story of what then won and when.

ChillWith · 09/12/2025 22:02

A friend's workmate won an Omaze lottery house and kept it!

Pallisers · 09/12/2025 22:14

I'm not in the UK but a woman I volunteer with and know socially has won twice - well her husband has won twice. First time he won about 200k and they upgraded their motor boat and saved the rest. The second time he won a million and they seriously upgraded their boat and probably saved the rest. She had a good job and he had his own successful business (still running it) so they were well-off anyway.

StupidHappyClocks · 09/12/2025 22:22

Yes, I know two people who each won around 1.5 million, and a couple who won 8 million.

One pissed it up the wall very quickly on holidays, cars, clothes and drugs.

One invested in property, became a property developer and is very comfortably off some 15 years later.

The 8 million winners were s couple who are friends of my mum’s, who won in their seventies. They were already very comfortably off, and so have basically set up their kids and grandkids futures very nicely.

I’ve won a fiver a few times 😆

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 09/12/2025 22:25

Yes, a mum from school. Lovely lady, she and her husband have been able to retire and buy a lovely house.

SleafordSods · 09/12/2025 22:42

I had forgotten about a woman I know who won £300k not long after the lottery started, she was in her mid-twenties so it set her up nicely.

TheCurious0range · 10/12/2025 07:35

When I was at secondary school a boy in my year's dad won just over 2 million, this was in the nineties. He was now DHs next door neighbour at the time, the mum had left them less than a year before having had an affair. Left the man with the two children who she barely saw. They moved to the countryside, the man had a hobby he turned into a little business and gave up his main job. Later on he met his now wife who is involved in the hobby and is lovely. PIL are still friends with him.

brizzledad · 10/12/2025 08:27

I got a ton on a scratchcard this year.
Even the lady in Tesco was impressed.

RedTagAlan · 10/12/2025 08:43

I knew someone who won 6 million. He said he would never do another days work ever again. He was going to stay on with the county council :-)

Lidre · 10/12/2025 08:44

I know someone who won £1m. He has a very ordinary lifestyle, except for amazing holidays.

MooDengOfThailand · 10/12/2025 08:51

Yes, I know of a doctor who won over 1 million. He and his family were already well off.

Money goes to money.

DrJackDaniels · 10/12/2025 17:33

My daughter’s best friend’s family won £8m about 15 years ago and my husbands parents won about £40k on the pools in the early 80s. I always win something every week, from £5 to £350 and just use my winnings to buy tickets for the next draw. I don’t play the main lottery, only thunderball, set for life or occasionally euromillions. I know the big one is landing for me soon, I can’t feel it!!!

Allseeingallknowing · 10/12/2025 17:36

Probably the friend in the “weird feelings thread”!

Was there a huge inheritance tax bill?

Myfluffyblanket · 10/12/2025 18:06

A local couple won over £3m but their extended family insisted that the winning ticket was one of the family's syndicate entries. Most of the money was subsequently spent on legal fees.

PercyJ · 10/12/2025 18:14

I won £140 the other day 🤣
