Slightly shameful regrets you can’t admit to IRL

I had two incredibly healthy enormous babies. I have a secret regret that I never had a little dinky newborn. I’ve been cuddling my friend’s 6 pounder and she’s so cute and little….(she’s healthy and thriving which is obviously the most important thing of course)

Why is that a regret and not just a “mmmmmm newborns are lovely”?

which they are!

how old are your children now?

And what’s “enormous”?

CurlewKate · 05/12/2025 15:41

It’s a new borns are lovely too! But mine were 9.9 and 10.6, and under no circumstances could be described as “dinky”!

I had a 6.2 and a 9.13, my bigger baby was far easier, and he was still small really.

Crushed23 · 05/12/2025 15:59

A former colleague’s baby is (relatively) huge and has the chubbiest little cheeks. 🥰 Fat babies are the best!

You would have loved mine. We went to Florence with DS and he would have fitter perfectly in as a Botticelli cherub!

I get it, my babies were both tiny and I loved that they seemed newborn for longer (both healthy!) they are both now late teens.

leccybill · 05/12/2025 21:42

I loved having a teeny 6lb baby, she was a newborn for longer. She hit 10lb at 10 weeks.

Terfarina · 05/12/2025 21:46

Mine were 4lb & 5lb 9oz. Dinky is cute but worrying.

Cheepcheepcheep · 05/12/2025 21:47

Ooh see mine were average to big (7lb 10oz and 9lb) but they were never chubby. Not a roll on them, they were just longgg. My confession: I tell people I’m jealous of their chubby babies but I wouldn’t have had mine any other way!

this. Were they healthy and no issues? Really odd to want a smaller baby. Both mine were early 5lbs 2 and 4. Stressful times

BlackCatGoesHome · 05/12/2025 21:47

Mine were 10lb5oz and 10lb3oz...I never worried about them being fragile and I think tiny babies really aren't that cute and look like baby birds!

CalmShaker · 05/12/2025 21:47

Can't go into details for legal reasons but I should've held that ladder better

JustADayDreamBeliever · 05/12/2025 21:49

I 100% get what you mean. My 1st was born at 7lb 8oz but grew like an absolute weed. My 2nd was born at 9lb 9oz and although he acted like a newborn for way longer, he was in 3-6 months clothes by the time he was a month old. I feel I never got that real newborn experience and I am often envious of those who have healthy and thriving smaller babies.
That is in no way saying I don't absolutely love and adore mine!

Big babies remind me of Chucky, especially when they have hair!

This @BlackCatGoesHome mine honestly looked like that red, skawlling horribly delicate baby birds! As said so stressful as felt so fragile!

BlackCatGoesHome · 05/12/2025 22:21

@HoneyParsnipSoup thats hilarious 😝 thankfully that thought never crossed my mind!

What a bizarre "regret" when you can't control a babies birth weight?! Ps focusing on the weight of a baby is weird IMO

Phoenixfire1988 · 06/12/2025 01:32

I have small babies my biggest was my 3rd at 7lb5 I breastfed it was bliss my subsequent babies were 5lb4 4lb 11 4lb3 and 6lb4 I had nothing but issues weekly weigh ins hospital trips its not fun !!

Bringemout · 06/12/2025 04:13

Mine was 8lbs, still looked smaller than I expected tbh, I quite like big chubby babies tbh

Bess91 · 06/12/2025 09:29

I'm not sure how you can regret something you have literally zero control over?

Emmz1510 · 06/12/2025 13:29

I think your post could possibly come across as a bit insensitive to parents of premature babies. I’m glad your friends baby is healthy and thriving at 6lb but prematurity/low birth weight can be associated with health concerns.

minipie · 06/12/2025 13:41

Yeah. I regret not having a full term 9lb baby. My dinky premature babies would have been much easier, healthier and happier (and so would I).

think before you post OP

Eaumyword · 06/12/2025 16:19

Mine was a tiny 3lb 13oz and red, as not gestated for long enough. Turned to orange as jaundice set in after he was born :-(
Honestly, it was really stressful with pneumonia issues as a toddler and small but consistent developmental delays.
