Botox gone wrong - help

UniqueOpalSwan · 04/12/2025 16:13

I’ve been having Botox for several years, but after this session, my eyelid has drooped. It’s been two weeks now. My injector has suggested putting in an electric toothbrush on my eyebrow to try and get the muscle working. That has made no difference. Driving is a struggle as my eye is almost closed and somebody at work was quite serious when they thought I was having a stroke.
Is there any experts out there that can advise me what to do? I am due to go back tomorrow for my top up and I have sent him regular photographs but I just want to know the right thing to do so that I don’t make it any worse.

I think there are some eye drops that can help but I think you just have to ride it out I’m afraid.

Meerkatmanor4 · 04/12/2025 16:15

Don’t have a top up.

Hopefully, it will resolve in a few weeks.

There is always the risk of permanent damage.

JDM625 · 04/12/2025 16:19

I wouldn't be getting a top up!!! Did the practitioner do anything different or a different site this time to cause the eye droop? Are they a qualified nurse/dr/dentist or a back yard beautician?

You could buy some of those elliptical stickers that 'help' open your lids up. You can get them on ebay, amazon etc. www.yesstyle.com/en/tcuc.GBP/coc.GB/info.html/pid.1119678105?googtrans=en&utm_source=GoogleAds&utm_campaign=1433311098&utm_term=&utm_content=54249412057_275139652521&utm_medium=Shopping&bac=389R3MWY&mcg=paidsearch&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=1433311098&gbraid=0AAAAAD3WTkm51wK5Sh2hMQhbpUWiQEkv4&gclid=Cj0KCQiA_8TJBhDNARIsAPX5qxTTiRh_n4iJTDbMm-nKE7XjMy3Z13nzxVyiU0gZq5lKJlHG27p0Ga4aAi6NEALw_wcB

Even contemplating having a top up when you already are experiencing what sounds like a serious reaction after your last session sounds absolutely crazy OP.

I don't understand anyone putting themselves through botox injections in the first place and I certainly don't understand why you would want to continue after experiencing this.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 04/12/2025 16:32

This has, unfortunately, happened to me once. I looked a right state. The two things that made a big difference was that I my practitioner immediately got eye drops out to me - she’s a nurse prescriber, so was able to do so. And she put a tiny amount into my eyelid itself, which helped it lift - though I understand that you might not feel comfortable with that.

What has your injector said?

UniqueOpalSwan · 04/12/2025 16:32

Tape is ordered , at least then I can drive more comfortably.
i am sat here watching tv out of one eye and it’s exhausting! You’re right not to get a top up but I wonder if there is anything I can do to make the Botox leave me any quicker because I am dreading going home for Christmas like this!

Wellstonethecrows I wasn’t actually going to have a top up. I was referring to the fact that you go back two weeks after to have your Botox reviewed and a top up if necessary. I will still be going back to the practitioner so that he can see for himself in real time my eye.

Did it hurt having the tiny bit in your eyelid itself? I’m a bit worried about how close that is to the eye.? How long did it take for yours to get better?

I genuinely don't think there's much that you can do., The protein has to break down and that could take a while. Obviously you're exercising caution with the driving, but you may need to give it up if that gets worse.
It'll settle down, hopefully not too long!

CanadianHobbit · 04/12/2025 16:48

But at least you look young and wrinkle free right? 🤭

If driving is a struggle please don't drive. It's really not worth the risk.

Quite. If you have an accident and they find it was due to you not being able to see properly that could be charged as dangerous driving. I'd not risk it.

Arlanymor · 04/12/2025 17:03

Please don’t drive, if your eye is almost closed your spatial awareness will be affected. There’s lots of advice online as to things you can try to fix it. I agree you should go back to your practitioner so they can see for themself how things are for you, although I’d be really wary of letting them touch me again. Can they sort out eye drops for you? What a miserable thing to have happen. Everytime I am almost tempted to look into it for myself I remind myself of stories like this and put myself off again. I hope it improves for Christmas for you.

That was nice of you.

TheOliveFinch · 04/12/2025 17:11

The Botox has migrated to your levator muscle and is a known potential complication of Botox in this area, it should wear off but can take some time. As others have said there are drops that can help lift the lid temporarily but essentially you need to wait for the Botox to wear off. Hopefully your practitioner had warned you that this is a potential complication of the treatment. As far as I remember the risk is around 1-2%

Franklyannoyed · 04/12/2025 17:14

I can’t beleive you were considering a top up. This might not improve immediately when it wears off op and could take some time.

Please note, I was not considering a top up what I was doing was attending my two week after-care appointment in order that the practitioner can see me in person and hopefully advise me

There is nothing they can do sadly, I’d not risk more in your eyelid, it is hugely risky,

this happened to me and it was a very long time before it was back to normal. It’s totally fine now and it improved quickly but the muscle became weak and when I was tired it dropped a bit for ages. Used to really pee me off.

This article is about fillers, not Botox.

LochKatrine · 04/12/2025 17:39

Yes, Botox is different. However, there's nothing you can do to speed up the breakdown, but it'll happen and wear off.

soocool · 04/12/2025 17:42

If you are worried about comments from anyone over Christmas, I'd style it out with an eye patch and plead some sort of eye infection.

Notmymarmosets · 04/12/2025 17:43

Double eye lid tape should physically hold the eye open. Exercise and massage will help it to disperse quicker, indeed anything that raises your metabolism. Fundamentally though you will have to wait it out.

StellaMalone · 04/12/2025 17:51

An acupuncturist should be able to sort this out quickly

Ihateboris · 04/12/2025 17:51

Hi Op

Whereabouts in the face did you have the botox? Was it in the forehead for the forehead lines? Apparently too much botox in the forehead can cause the eyes to droop. I know a few people this has happened to and they were advised to massage the area...also, vigorous exercise can help as it helps blood flow that will metabolise the botox faster, but it will take some time. So sorry this has happened to you.
