Botox gone wrong - help

UniqueOpalSwan · 04/12/2025 16:13

I’ve been having Botox for several years, but after this session, my eyelid has drooped. It’s been two weeks now. My injector has suggested putting in an electric toothbrush on my eyebrow to try and get the muscle working. That has made no difference. Driving is a struggle as my eye is almost closed and somebody at work was quite serious when they thought I was having a stroke.
Is there any experts out there that can advise me what to do? I am due to go back tomorrow for my top up and I have sent him regular photographs but I just want to know the right thing to do so that I don’t make it any worse.

But at least you look young and wrinkle free right? 🤭

Wow, you’re nice..

Hi Op

Whereabouts in the face did you have the botox? Was it in the forehead for the forehead lines? Apparently too much botox in the forehead can cause the eyes to droop. I know a few people this has happened to and they were advised to massage the area...also, vigorous exercise can help as it helps blood flow that will metabolise the botox faster, but it will take some time. So sorry this has happened to you.

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, in the forehead, but I always have a fringe and have had since a child and I’m 62 now so I don’t have many wrinkles. It’s so frustrating that this has happened.

The reason I have a fringe is to hide my lines as I've heard so many horror stories about botox causing eyes to droop. At least it's not permanent. Do you wear glasses? Could you wear some as the frames may hide the eye droop? Just a thought. Or you could grow a longer fringe 🤣

I’ve written on here before that I’ve had to give up Botox as I metabolise it too fast as I lift weights. Maybe try some exercising if you can?

That's interesting, can you expand on that please, as in what is the body doing if you lift to speed up the longevity of Botox?

If you are worried about comments from anyone over Christmas, I'd style it out with an eye patch and plead some sort of eye infection.

Or say you've really getting into the panto spirit, like a pirate.

Or that person you've always fancied but never had the courage to wink to

In all seriousness op, I hope you recover fast. I think you will and look back on this experience and laugh. Perhaps a lesson to avoid further injections though, but that's your choice 🌞

If driving is a struggle please don't drive. It's really not worth the risk.

I agree. I can’t really believe you’re saying it’s a struggle and “watching tv with one eye” but still driving. It’s so irresponsible

BadgernTheGarden · 04/12/2025 20:49

I would look into how competent the person was who did it, this should not happen and I would never go to them again at the very least, they have caused you harm and may well be liable. Also was it proper botox or one of the cheap copies?

You can drive with one good eye, many people do.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 04/12/2025 20:51

@UniqueOpalSwan you really can’t drive in that state. If I knew you in person I would be informing the police if you continued.

Yes, but you still need to meet the minimum eyesight standards.

adapting to vision with just one eye can take some time and you might need to inform the DVLA as there can be issues with judging distances and peripheral vision.

I’m an advanced practitioner hun. Go onto Amazon and order a “vibration tool” it’s like a tbar. Use it as much as you can and it will
help to wake up the muscle sooner but unfortunately there isn’t anything else you can do apart from wait it out. It angers me when I hear these stories and so many people risking peoples faces xx

CombatBarbie · 04/12/2025 21:01

Ive just had this after my last top up., was/is a right pain in the ass. No idea why it happened but have ridden it out. It just completely failed on that side.

You can drive with one good eye, many people do.

Many people have long term issues and have got used to having no stereopsis.

People who become suddenly monocular are told to wait a few months before resuming driving for that reason.

You're meant to be signed off by a doctor though as you need to adapt to the loss of the ability assess depth of field.

cupfinalchaos · 04/12/2025 21:34

They are usually so careful about where they inject as it’s so easy to make the eyelid droop. Awful experience op and at the very least I wouldn’t be going back there

TorroFerney · 05/12/2025 10:08

Notmymarmosets · 04/12/2025 17:43

Double eye lid tape should physically hold the eye open. Exercise and massage will help it to disperse quicker, indeed anything that raises your metabolism. Fundamentally though you will have to wait it out.

Was going to say that. Start training op , get some fast running done.

JifNtGif · 06/12/2025 13:57

There's nothing you can do. You'll just have to wait as long as the Botox takes to wear off.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 04/12/2025 16:32

This has, unfortunately, happened to me once. I looked a right state. The two things that made a big difference was that I my practitioner immediately got eye drops out to me - she’s a nurse prescriber, so was able to do so. And she put a tiny amount into my eyelid itself, which helped it lift - though I understand that you might not feel comfortable with that.

What has your injector said?

This is exactly the right way to treat eyelid ptosis! It will eventually wear off op

Namechangeforadhd · 07/12/2025 14:19

Lots of heat, massage and exercise stops botox lasting as long. Hot flannels, saunas, facials, swimming, lots of cardio. Drinking alcohol is also not good for botox! Anything that heats you up inside and out and gets your metabolism going. Basically all the stuff you're told not to do right after injections.
