What are you getting your DP for Christmas? (Shamelessly posting so I can steal your ideas!)

I have no idea what to get him this year. His hobby (cycling) has lapsed due to poor health. He's put on weight due to it so nothing snacky. He does like cooking so maybe a kitchen gadget, but he does seem to have everything I can think of! I've given him experience days for things he enjoys in the past. I'm all out of ideas so I'm shamelessly asking what you are giving your DP in the hope that I will get some inspiration. Ta everso 🎁

We really don't do Xmas presents much as DH dislikes the environmental impact and consumerism etc. so I'm just getting him a T-shirt from his favourite obscure band off Vinted and The Cube board game from a charity shop which I think he'll love.

pizzaHeart · 03/12/2025 23:59

I was thinking about making him a foodie stocking: beer, chutney, luxury nuts, fancy herbal tea, maybe biscuits.
He also needs a new travel cup. That’s where my ideas stopped ☹️

Icanflyhigh · 04/12/2025 00:00

I've had his classic jaguar restored for him!
He has no idea, thinks its in winter storage !!

I mean, I was going to ask what do you get the man who has everything but you win!

Something sentimental?

Dinner at a restaurant that is symbolic to you as a couple.Weekend break somewhere meaningful A photo album/scrapbook type thing of key memories. Trip to the theatre/a movie/concert that takes you down memory lane.

Or something painfully practical.

One of those torch headlight things so he can look for stuff in the shed hands free. Some socks/pants. A flask/keepy cup. Spare tyre for the car. A fancy umbrella. Selection of books by authors you know he likes (or ones that you think he'd like based on who he does like - ask in the Mumsnet book section). One of those phone cases that can withstand nuclear war. A heated gilet. Pair of binoculars to spy on the neighbours.

Mine has a festival ticket (I’ve bought for the family) a cricket membership for Lancs (he gets free tickets) , a comedian ticket, a hoodie, some posh porky scratchings, a knife (kitchen) - socks and pants and a toblerone and a tasting menu for 2 at six by.

sightingday · 04/12/2025 03:10

A tracksuit and a hoodie he wants but won’t buy because he says they are too expensive. Aftershave, trainers, a game for his Xbox, some sunglasses for cycling because he keeps stealing my running ones and a tape measure. Might get him a leatherman but I’m holding off on that to see if the one he lost turns up in the next week or so.

Trallers · 04/12/2025 03:31

Cozy pyjama trousers with cuffed ankles so they don't ride up in bed, and a silly quiz book. That's probably it, but we're not big gift people.

Wow to the restored Jaguar @Icanflyhigh! I hope he appreciates it and has something equally thoughtful for you.

Flowertopz · 04/12/2025 03:34

I have bought mine a blood pressure watch as he has bad blood pressure. and this tracks his blood pressure threwout the day it has a blood pressure cuff inside the strap. He has an item for his gaming and a bag of his favourite chocs and drinks

PearlRiver · 04/12/2025 03:36

A nutribullet blender thing as he mentioned he wanted to eat more fruit and be able to make smoothies!

I’ve got my OH a football top they wanted. A book I know they will like and comedy pants.

BrunchBarBandit · 04/12/2025 06:37

An electric screwdriver, a fancy pen, a nice jumper and a 1kg bag of chocolate covered Brazil nuts.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/12/2025 07:49

Nice versions of all the kitchen things that are a bit broken after 25 years of martiage.

David Mellor Salt & Pepper grinders (we used to live very near the workshop/cafe in the Peak District, but could barely afford to shop at Ikea at the time)
A panini press (we keep breaking tje clips on toastie machines).
A couple of Taylor’s Eye Witness made in Sheffield knives. (DH is also made in Sheffield!).

This is going to cost around £200, but it will be a benefit to both of us.

Yogagrandmum · 04/12/2025 07:54

A bar of marzipan.

VegBox · 04/12/2025 07:57

A juggling kit and book (he asked for this).
Whisky glasses and tray for our garden office/ his man cave.

Tumbleweed24 · 04/12/2025 08:00

Aero press and a coffee subscription
Did world jigsaw

snoopythebeagle · 04/12/2025 08:07

Nothing!

We both have our birthdays within two weeks of Christmas so instead of presents, we go out for nice meals and have a few days out being “tourists” in the local area instead.

HayuBingeWatcher · 04/12/2025 08:17

HD likes cooking, last year was Ninja knives block and a Ninja multi versatile cooking pan
this year I’ve bought a pasta maker and the things to go with it from lakeland
soup maker from Lakeland
a tracksuit for in the house
more curry kits that he likes
shower bars from Miolton brown and soap from Jo Malone
socks! He did ask for socks 😀I think he’s a bit miffed I’m getting a new pair everyday in the Sockshop Callander

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 04/12/2025 08:22

My husband gained weight, and I've noticed he's not wearing his usual style of clothes. So I got him some nice t shirts from his favourite brand, make him feel like himself again.

Do you think he'd like some help getting into appropriate exercise again? E.g. walking, maybe? Get some good shoes, and some maps of appropriate routes.

It's horrible not feeling like yourself, so anything to get him feeling normal again!

CauliflowerCheese00 · 04/12/2025 08:32

Does he like interesting holidays/travel?

Lonely Planet do a huge range of good, very nicely photographed etc, books on different travel. DH is getting one this year about rail trips of Europe as he wants to do a rail holiday in the next few years.
Also some nice PJs and socks, and a jar of his favourite sweets.
We always do an expensive meal out, or a little weekend away, rather than buy a very expensive thing.

BestZebbie · 04/12/2025 08:37

Board games - The Zatu games website has hundreds aimed at adults.

singswithitsfingers · 04/12/2025 08:38

Lego tuxedo cat.

ShinyWorthKeeping · 04/12/2025 08:44

His mum passed 3 months before I fell pregnant with his first baby so last year I got a picture made up of his mum and step dad (also passed and much closer than actual dad) holding the baby. Had another surprise this year so having a new picture made up to include both babies.

I've also got him a tee shirt which I know he'll love, I'll also get him some reeces chocolate as its his favourite.

May stretch to something war hammer if I have enough budget left after the kids!

SheilaFentiman · 04/12/2025 09:08

Dressing gown, I think. And a guide book for a holiday next year.
