I have a mission to piss off daily fail readers every morning

And I get a warm glow of satisfaction when I have the worst rated comment of all. Makes me happy all day.

anyone else involved in petty bullshit every day?

(as an example today’s daily bastard story is about a woman who WORKS FULLTIME in London - and bringing in £2800 from the job - who has to also claim about £3,000 a month for childcare costs and rent as that’s the cost of living 🤷‍♀️ - you can imagine the frothing comments slagging her off rather than questioning cost of living/childcare costs/telling her she has to move - when it’s likely her job doesn’t exist elsewhere)

Good for you. May I join you please?

For full disclose - I don't work because I am too ill. I live on benefits and get a free bus pass, free prescriptions and free dental care. I also get my rent paid. I used to have 2 jobs.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 03/12/2025 12:59

You are a habitual troll. As long as it’s working for you and not stopping you from doing something else.

LaurieFairyCake · 03/12/2025 13:02

Please feel free to join me in winding up the weirdos but don’t click ‘thumbs up’ on my comments Grin as then you’ll affect my rating of being the most hated

And I guess you read the Guardian and listen to the BBC

Awards won by DM journos

Media Freedom Awards 2025 (November 2025)
The Daily Mail was a major winner, taking home three awards:

  • Journalist of the Year: Awarded to Chief Reporter Sam Greenhill (alongside predecessor David Williams) for a two-year investigation into a government data leak that endangered Afghan lives.
  • Investigation of the Year: Won by "The Secret Afghan Airlift" report.
  • Commentator of the Year (Popular): Awarded to Ian Birrell.
The Press Awards 2025 (May 2025) Mail writers were highly successful at the "Oscars of journalism":
  • Feature Writer of the Year (Tabloid): Ian Birrell won this title for the third time in five years.
  • Young Journalist of the Year: Sabrina Miller received this award for her "superb reporting".
  • Highly Commended:
  • Ian Herbert (Sports Journalist of the Year category)
  • The Trial of Diddy podcast (News Podcast of the Year category)
Other Recent Awards
  • London Press Club Awards 2023: Katie Hind won Scoop of the Year for her exclusives about Phillip Schofield, and the podcast The Trial of Lucy Letby won the Multimedia Journalist of the Year award.
  • Inspirational Women Awards: The Daily Mail held its own awards in partnership with Marks & Spencer to honor women with an extraordinary community impact. The 2025 winners were unveiled in June 2025 and included Gulnaz Brennan, Jo Cruse, Maisha Sumah, Sally Becker, and Roxy Longworth.
  • British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) 2025: The Daily Mail reported on the winners, where the film Pillion led with four awards.

Notable Daily Mail Exposés and Campaigns

  • Justice for Stephen Lawrence: The paper launched a vigorous and widely recognized campaign for justice following the racist murder of teenager Stephen Lawrence in 1993. This included a famous and controversial front page in 1997 naming the suspects as murderers and challenging them to sue.
  • Plastic Bag Charge Campaign: A sustained "Banish the Bags" campaign, launched in 2008 and reignited in subsequent years, used striking imagery of marine life affected by plastic to push for environmental changes. This is credited with helping bring about the 5p plastic bag charge in the UK.
  • "Enemies of the People" (Brexit): In a highly controversial 2016 front page, the paper labeled three High Court judges as "Enemies of the people" after they ruled that the government could not trigger Brexit without a parliamentary vote. This headline drew significant attention and criticism but was a defining moment of its fervent pro-Brexit campaign.
  • Gary McKinnon Extradition Fight: In 2009, the Daily Mail campaigned against the extradition of Gary McKinnon, a British man with Asperger's syndrome accused of hacking into U.S. government computers, arguing it was an "affront to British justice". The campaign was ultimately successful, and McKinnon was not extradited.
  • "Cash for Care Jobs" Scam: A recent undercover investigation by journalist Isaan Khan revealed how rogue recruiters were exploiting relaxed visa laws to charge migrants up to £20,000 in illegal "work finder fees" for care home jobs, leaving "vulnerable looking after the vulnerable".
  • NHS Asbestos Danger: An exposé on the widespread danger of asbestos in NHS hospitals, featuring the story of a doctor who died from related cancer and highlighting that thousands of victims work in buildings riddled with toxic fibres.
  • Pork Farm Animal Cruelty: The paper published a series of articles and footage exposing workers at a major UK pork producer's farm allegedly kicking and beating piglets, which led to an investor showdown for the company.
  • Immigration Scams: The Mail has also exposed alleged immigration scams, including secret filming that revealed the tactics of agents facilitating immigration fraud.

And you are so self absorbed that you think others will be upset by your rude comments

How do you know they are 'weirdos'? Do you think they could be winding people like you up? Do you know they are genuine Daily Fail readers??

LaurieFairyCake · 03/12/2025 13:15

Good point, no one knows - they could all be AI

OP posts:
OhDear111 · 03/12/2025 13:20

Like you. What a waste of time! How petty are you? In this country we need to learn that this behaviour doesn’t add to debate or help anyone because it’s just ignored by sensible people, and especially policy makers who at least understand something about costs and taxation.

LaurieFairyCake · 03/12/2025 13:21

It does add to the debate, without any counterpoints then it would ALL look like nasty comments about this poor woman.

OP posts:
Dollymylove · 03/12/2025 13:25

I think you probably have too much time on your hands OP
Have you considered getting a job?

Fluffyholeysocks · 03/12/2025 13:25

I doubt anyone thinks the comments section in the Daily Mail is 'debate'!!

LaurieFairyCake · 03/12/2025 13:29

lol, takes a minute or less to type the comment, as long as it’s taken you to type YOUR COMMENT. (Have a job thanks)

Not sure that “pissing people off” is in the spirit of a parenting website. MNHQ probably won’t delete as they are very left wing biased though. It’s a shame a parenting website isn’t totally separate from politics.

idrinkandiknowthings · 03/12/2025 13:34

OP, given that you've quoted the story doesn't that make you a Daily Fail reader yourself?

I buy it at the weekend, along with The Guardian and The Observer for contrasting reporting.

SJParker · 03/12/2025 13:38

I cannot imagine this thread will be up for long…

JustSawJohnny · 03/12/2025 13:41

I used to get my dopamine fix this way.

Just got too depressing in the end.

I do recognise your valiant effort though.

Sometimes you just gotta scream into the void 📢

LaurieFairyCake · 03/12/2025 13:43

I’m not ‘pissing people off’ on MUMSNET, but on the DAILY MAIL website

OP posts:
ItsNearlyChristmasAndIHavntBoughtAThing · 03/12/2025 13:48

You’re just giving more attention to the daily mail by commenting on there and then coming here to tell us. 🙄 But yeah, erm, go you!

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/12/2025 13:50

Why bother

But are you really 'pissing them off" or are those pesky "weirdos' trying to piss you off as they are winding you up? Nobody knows....

Why? OP isn't breaking any MN guidelines.

Pollqueen · 03/12/2025 17:35

Well if you're referring to the Sarah Vine article, it's behind a pay wall so as you're helping to fill their coffers, I shouldn't think anyone gives a toss.

Does sound like you need to get out more though

What are you going to do? Report people,
as usual?

What a pathetic little life you lead.

You will not stop me, or the many others who call you out.

But, of course, you know this by now, don’t you?

What a very strange and aggressive response to my question. I can safely say I have never reported you, or at least the name SJParker, to MNHQ. You can check with them if you like.
