She is 16, diagnosed adhd a couple of years ago, she thinks this is a reason she doesn’t have to do anything basically. Won’t go to college, won’t get an apprenticeship, has applied for UC and has been told she needs a Fitnote to say that adhd prevents her from working ? Is this right ? Seems insane? My nephew has adhd that he was medicated for and he is a robotics engineer who works his ass off!
She is also waiting on her pop assessment.

I reckon theres a small group of middle aged women

They call themselves 'Farage's Army'

And they sit around making up threads to bash benefit claimants and immigrants to try and sway public opinion

They probably see it as 'doing their bit for the war effort'

Truly shameful 😭😭

Either way, a friend who would go online to shame your dd isnt a friend 🙄

Poms · 01/12/2025 17:05

Unless you are professionally qualified to do so, you are not capable of assessing whether or not someone with a disability is capable of working.

No need to bash middle aged women either.

Was also meant to add friends dd is more than capable of working, she goes on holidays with her friends, stays out all hours, calls benefits people herself with no support, spends money etc. she just thinks because she has adhd she doesn’t have to work and get free money instead

What do you mean "calls benefits people"? You're hard pressed to get through to anyone on the phone. If you are assessed as eligible for JSA or UC you will be assigned a work coach.
It sounds like her Mum needs some better guidance. I suggest she talks to CAB, unlike the Job Centre you can actually talk to a person w/o jumping through burning hoops of fire.

Homegrownberries · 01/12/2025 17:07

I think you should call the police.

Catpiece · 01/12/2025 17:08

Most youngsters are ambitious and plan for their future. Work hard at school. University. Good jobs. I can’t imagine any of the young people I’ve known (through my now adult sons) preferring to opt out. What a waste

crscrs · 01/12/2025 16:23

Because her mum moans to me about it ! Nothing about a “goady disability thread” it’s the truth and if people get offended that’s not my issue

And what do you hope to get out of this thread?
several posters have highlighted where your friend could get support with her Dd.

crscrs · 01/12/2025 17:12

I’m not middle aged myself i’m 32.
I wouldn’t say it’s slagging off, it’s being upfront about the situation. Friends daughter is being lazy and using her diagnosis as a way to get out of working or going to college. Her bf is the same and I think he’s putting things in her head personally.

PinkFrogss · 01/12/2025 17:13

Sounds like a typical 16 year old to me.

Not sure why you’re complaining about her claiming benefits when she’s not?

If her mum brings her up in conversation just make a neutral sympathetic comment and change the subject.

So grow a spine and tell her.

Not sure what the point is in telling us on a public forum?

Ohhh no intention to bash middle aged women!! This is just who I picture starting these threads

I'm approaching middle age myself but I am relatively normal - too late for me to edit xx

Only this very morning 1/12/25 P M Kier Starmer said at a press conference-_there are nearly a MILLION young people NEET and that this situation cannot continue. I think he is concerned they are not all mentally ill or disabled. Who will pay for them -''working people''? If they cannot work when ''young'' does that mean a life time of unemployment on benefit? He seemed to be asking this question - thank goodness - aren't we all??

Well, I need someone to talk to aswell? Is this not what online forums are for ?

I have already text friend with info that had been given here, so thanks to those posters

She won't qualify for uc at 16 unless she is profoundly disabled and qualifies for the limited capacity for work requirement. This is extremely unlikely or maybe impossible with only a diagnosis of adhd.

Easier said than done with the job market being what it currently is unfortunately. Many people are struggling to find a job, it’s not necessarily that they can’t be bothered and would rather life a life of luxury on the pittance they would be eligible for in benefits.

How is she affording to go on holidays (multiple) yet has no job and hasn't claimed any benefits yet as she hasn't had her assessment?

I thought young people had to stay in education, or get a job under 18?
I didn't think 16 year old could claim benefits

Nor did I, friends mum had no control over her she is always at her friends house so she hardly sees her.
She did say she’s had no contact off school or the local authority about her not being in education, I will urge her to contact them

Plus they won’t pay into the system which then goes towards the state pension pot

Why do you care ?

Perhaps because the OP is pissed of that lazy arseholes sponge of her hard earned taxes.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 01/12/2025 17:52

My dd is on full pip and UC for ADHD. She claimed UC at 17.

She was very very unwell. Couldn’t speak or leave the house. Not in education and we had to claim for her. Self harming.

Just because your Ds was fine doesn’t mean they all are,

Hiwrvef your friends dd sounds a pisstaker.

We absolutely tons of evidence. Not just a fitnote.

Please don’t think I believe that, as I don’t. I am autistic myself so I do understand the struggles. My friends dd is nothing like your child though, my nephew really struggled in school but he’s thriving now. It’s sad friends dd doesn’t want to do anything, college would be good for her, open up new social circles too but she really has got it in her head she doesn’t need to work or go to college because she can claim money off the goverment.

She’s wrong though!!! They won’t give it her if she can catch taxis etc.
