Depends on what he did, whose wedding it was etc. How many people saw and are they likely to forget it. And who is it you need to address it with? Him or the other guests? And there’s a good chance you’re catastrophising this

☝️all of this.

What did they do, apart from getting drunk at a wedding which isn't that unusual, that needs "addressing"?

WilfredsPies · 30/11/2025 02:10

Did he say or do anything offensive? If not, and you’re not going to drip feed that he’s got alcoholism, or that he ruins every occasion with alcohol, then I’m not really sure what needs addressing.

Beekman · 30/11/2025 02:12

Why are you feeling sorry for yourself? Did he embarrass you or speak to you in a rude manner? Getting drunk at a wedding isn’t the crime of the century.

It will be him feeling sorry for himself tomorrow, OP.

ApolloandDaphne · 30/11/2025 04:28

It happens. Did he do anything particularly bad?

Pedallleur · 30/11/2025 08:16

Was it some kind of Johnny English behaviour or are the Police involved?

Bell501 · 30/11/2025 20:29

My dad is really ill. Asking people to buy him drink. Arguing with his son.

Asked people to buy him drink leaving his son in tears

He has money to buy his own drink. Talking about people who were within ear shot of him

Well from the little you have drip fed, doesn't sound good. He's obviously well into adulthood so is his drinking generally a problem?

Not usually. Talking about people within ear shot. Making me part of it. While my dad is very unwell so it will leave things very awkard

What exactly is the problem with asking people to buy him a drink?
Why was his son crying?
Why were you in bed so early at a wedding?

You obviously have a problem with it, so what's your issue?

On the information provided by you so far, I wouldn’t have any issues and would make him a big breakfast for soakage the next morning.

I'm sorry your dad is unwell, but I'm not sure what the connection is between this and your DH at a wedding.

Giraffemug30 · 30/11/2025 20:41

Can you actually write a full post about why his behaviour was so bad

Getting very drunk at a wedding is not uncommon, and asking people to buy you drinks is maybe a bit annoying but hardly mumsnet post worthy. What did he actually do?

MN needs a ‘Pulling Teeth Board’ for threads like this, to be joined for example by the ‘friend carried by a firebrigrade [sic]’ one.

Unless he got naked and tried to ride one of the wedding party getting drunk at a wedding is fairly normal!

Agree. Painful isn’t it? OP just say what happened makes life easier for all
of us.
