Turned 50 this week and wham, had my first mammogram. I was SO embarrassed by it all I cried the whole way through as I hated standing there with a naked top half. I've always hated my body and teenie boobage, but with breast cancer in my family I thought it best to get checked out.

Anything hapoened to anyone else during this procedure which can make me feel better about this...

I’ve had to have one a year since turning 40 due to family history. So 3 so far. I guess I don’t think too much of it. Just get it done. Technician is professional and friendly. Very good at explaining how to shift around. I think I’m in there for under 10 minutes. I’ve never been embarrassed by anything medical I think the staff have seen it all before and just want to get through the day too.

Blimey. The whole thing is humiliating enough, i couldn't bear to have a man doing it, no way. I don't think a man should be doing it tbh

Really don’t get why anyone would cry about a mammogram.. my body is far from perfect but it’s just a medical test done by medical staff

WTF. Men study for years to become radiographers. Do you think they should never see a naked person?

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 15/03/2026 00:28

There were male radiographers on duty when I had radiotherapy for breast cancer last year. I would have preferred not, but just let them get on with their job. They were very respectful.

On private mammograms. I have had a private mammogram. I have a private yearly health check ups, funded by my work. Last year my doctor wanted to double check something she was a bit concerned about so sent me to a private clinic for screening.

It was no better or no worse than any NHS screening I have had. You still get squished in to the metat plate machine, you still need to be topless, the room was chilly. The only real difference was I got a free cup of tea while I waited.
