Does anybody have a vibration plate?

And would you recommend it? I’m at risk of osteoporosis so was thinking about it for bone density, but I’ve also had a retinal detachment…

I have osteoporosis and took alendronic acid for a few years. I stopped taking it when my mum was told that her spine was 'shot to bits'. She'd been taking AA for years and all it did was to prevent old bone from being reabsorbed, so her spine was very brittle. Taking it can also result in (rare) jaw bone necrosis. Adverts on American TV have solicitors suggesting that sufferers of JBN should contact them with regards to suing the manufacturers.
My consultant told me that there's no research into improving bone density other than by drug companies. I discovered that this isn't quite true, so my trust in him was rather damaged. A couple of years ago I did my own research and discovered that the bones of astronauts are damaged by lack of gravity, so they use vibration plates to strengthen them. No idea if that is true, but I use my plate most days (and scroll through mumsnet while I do it).

Have you looked at rebounders@SaltyLemons ? I used to love the Power Plates at my gym before they vanished in a refurb, great for balance, not sure about bones.

They are deemed dangerous by many, I wouldn’t touch one if I was you. Everything vibrating at high speed, think of your brain wobbling about in your head etc. dangerous for causing prolapses as organs are dislodged and wobbling your brain. Avoid x

I think this is pretty close to the most ludicrous shite I've ever read on this site.

OP, do some proper research and note that most of the brainboxes on this thread who've decided that these machines are "pointless" aren't claiming that they've actually used one.

Rebounders are excellent for improving bone density, also great for low impact cardio.
I used to love bouncing on mine, could literally go for an hour. Sadly my pelvic floor remembered it was over 50 and I kept peeing myself mid bounce!😂

Pilates x 5 per week sorted out my pelvic floor. I can laugh and cough without fear now! I am tempted to get a rebounder, but with all the Pilates, not sure I have the time. 😅 If I wasn't so flipper footed, I'd skip, but I started weightlifting this year, so hopefully have covered most bases.

I’d be interested to hear if a vibration plate might help prevent my leg cramps which wake me from sleep pretty much every night?
Doesnt Eamon Holmes use a seated “ Revitive”type plate rather than a stand up vibration plate?

Timemyluckchanged · 29/11/2025 12:56

I’m sorely tempted to buy one as I have poor circulation and from what I’ve seen online probably early lipedema. If there was any chance improving my lymphatic drainage would improve my legs I’m willing to try. Not overweight and exercise plenty already but my legs still have knobbly fat and fat knees and the looses sock will leave marks.

henlake7 · 29/11/2025 14:44

@askmenow dont think mine did much for leg cramps. The only thing I find helps is making sure I eat a banana a day!

@Timemyluckchanged they arent going to work miracles but have been proven to help with lymphatic drainage so might be worth a go.

Merseymum1980 · 29/11/2025 14:46

Not great if you have a bad back, put mine out

Tryonemoretime · 29/11/2025 21:17

@askmenow Magnesium tablets have got rid of my cramp. I take one with evening dinner.

MrsLizzieDarcy · 29/11/2025 21:20

I tried one once at the gym and thought my fillings were going to dislodge. Horrible sensation. I wouldn't buy one blind, OP!

FinallyHere · 29/11/2025 21:59

used one at a Pilates studio in the early 2000’s. Terrible terrible itchiness.

He does but he’s paid to do so. I think the ones he uses are only effective while you’re using them.

Timemyluckchanged · 01/12/2025 19:12

@henlake7 I’ve ordered on a Black Friday deal on Amazon so I can return it if I hate it. I’ll update when it’s arrived and I’ve had a chance to use it.

capybaraforlife · 03/12/2025 06:21

i am old enough to remember when Power Plates took the gym world by storm - my fancy gym had a whole room of them and we used to do classes on them - I absolutely loved it and they were backed up by a lot of science. Not sue why everyone is so negative about them now. I'd love to have one.

janj52301 · 25/12/2025 16:42

Adore mine, I was on medication for night cramps not any more. Use it occasionally now as a top up. DH uses it for night cramps and restless leg as well
