Would you eat chicken breast if it was 4 days past its use by date? Looks and smells fine.

No no no! I am another one who was serverely unwell with campylobacter from chicken. I tend to chuck day before use by when it comes to chicken just in case.

Candleabra · 25/11/2025 22:43

4 days? No way

Ineffable23 · 25/11/2025 22:44

I'm really chilled about dates. I have used cream that was 2 weeks out of date without issue. I use bacon after the use by date as well.

I would use raw chicken a day after sell by, maybe 2 at an absolute absolute maximum. 4 - absolutely no chance.

I’m as relaxed as they come about use by dates (yoghurt, 7-14 business days beyond, eggs I never even check I just put them in water and use unless they float etc). 4 days for chicken is beyond even my fly by night attitude. 2 as an absolute maximum, if it’s been in my fridge which rivals the artic tundra.

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 25/11/2025 22:50

No, I wouldn’t.

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 25/11/2025 22:54

Oh god, until I read this I probably would have. I regard the sniff test as pretty definitive.

Linenpickle · 25/11/2025 22:56

Nope!

RampantIvy · 25/11/2025 22:59

The OP hasn't been back. I hope she hasn't eaten the chicken and is now regretting it.

MycroftSholmes · 25/11/2025 23:00

No - are you joking?

Nerdynerdynerd · 25/11/2025 23:20

No... you mad bastard

Tryingatleast · 25/11/2025 23:22

Reverse. Someone you know did it. Or ai, wondering if they should eat said chicken.

ZenZazie · 26/11/2025 00:16

Good god no

You shouldn't put meat in the compost bin. I just put vegetable peelings and garden waste in mine.

Edited

Ah, my mistake. I’ve called it the wrong thing. It’s one of those food waste bins.

Monty27 · 26/11/2025 01:15

I wouldn't even put it out for an animal

This! I was ill for four weeks with it and ended up on antibiotics. Now never eat chicken (or any meat actually) in a restaurant.

I had campylobacter from a restaurant, was off work completely for over three weeks then on ulcer medicine for nearly a year due to the damage caused. For a couple of years after that I had to take great care with my diet to avoid flare ups.

I’m a life long vegetarian. It was likely due to poor hygiene practices in the kitchen.

I’d give it to the dog as I hate food waste.

Please don't, that's awful.

Good lord no unless you want your head down the toilet for the foreseeable

Fifthtimelucky · 26/11/2025 16:30

I am usually pretty relaxed about exceeding “use by” dates (as an example, I had some mozzarella earlier today with a use by date of 23 September)!

Even I wouldn’t eat chicken that was four days out of date.

Maryberrysbouffant · 26/11/2025 16:35

I’m not too precious about dates but four days for chicken is pushing it
