Least impressive universities?

If you could reject three from this list based PURELY on how impressive they look on your CV and no other reason, which would you reject, leaving a list of five?

Durham
York
Newcastle
Liverpool
Manchester
Liverpool
Sheffield
Leeds

Thank you

Reject all but Liverpool; it's so good, you've named it twice.

@Hfstjsufysyfykdhoxg If for engineering, York, and possibly Durham unless wanting to work in finance. For English - who will care? So totally depends on subject and where you want to work. Eg many who study law in Manchester remain in the area, they tend not to want London. So work location matters but no one purely chooses on uni attended. The cv needs a lot more than that.

I’d only be bothered about name recognition to that extent if you’re an international student who is planning to seek work back in home country or 3rd country where that might matter. And if that’s the case, I’d put Manchester at the top of that particular list in most instances.

Otherwise, look at courses carefully - core modules, optional modules and the lifestyle and cost of accommodation in each place. Choosing a course and a location that suits is more important than anything else.

I went to one of the universities listed and work at another one. I agree that grad recruitment is increasingly blind/disinterested to uni outside of certain very specific industries (so obviously check this).

Given the UCAS deadline had been and gone I suspect the young adult has an already made their mind up.

Large companies might do blind recruitment but plenty of smaller ones don’t. Most will devise tests but cv will be read or why have it submitted? Employers do know what universities they trust. In the uk, Durham beats the others for most subjects but not all.

I would get rid of Sheffield, Manchester and Liverpool, purely because I personally wouldn't want to live for 3+ years in any of those. If you are going to randomly pick three then I think thats as good a reason as any!

Sheffield is regularly voted the best Uni for student experience and is the city most students want to continue to live in!

Indeed Sheffield is very popular but those universities are all good but vary according to subject and what career is sought.

Having lived for a long time in both Sheffield and Manchester, they are both amazing!

Fantastic cities. Very different but both great.

Why is Liverpool in twice?

Exactly it depends on the course.
