Best acting performances ever...

I'll start. Hoping for inspiration as I'm running out of Saturday night choices!

Charlize Theron - Monster. Her acting and appearance were both absolutely mind blowing

Leonardo Di Caprio - What's Eating Gilbert Grape. How he didn't win every award under the sun makes me wonder who he fell out with in Hollywood!

Tom Hanks - Captain Phillips. Especially the end scene where he's gone into shock. But then he's my favourite actor in the solar system...

Elizabeth Debicky - The Crown. She was more like Diana... than Diana!

Who are your additions?

Stephen Graham - The Virtues

I came on to say this. Absolutely phenomenal.

Everyone in It's a Sin
Jack O'Connell as Paddy Mayne in Rogues Heroes
Stephen Graham in everything
Evan Peters as various characters in American Horror Story. I think he's fantastic and it baffles me he's not more famous than his is.

Siobhan Finneran in everything she’s ever been in.

Same for Alan Rickman and Gary Oldman.

Agree with Charlize Theron in Monster, to go from the J'dior beauty to abused murderer prostitute was incredible. The story was so sad but you watched fighting her fight, great film. Also Jack Osbourne in I'MAC last night pretending they lost a challenge was so believable

Claire Danes in Fleishman Is in Trouble is just never talked about at all. Amazing.

I just mentioned her performance yesterday on another thread. Absolutely excellent as always. It's a good show, I felt the couple could have been a bit more likeable though. I couldn't root for either of them. I loved Lizzie Caplan, I related to her character a lot.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 23/11/2025 00:32

Irish actress Denise Gough. I've seen her in only a few things and she was mesmerising.

I know, but Emma Thompson crying in Love Actually. So understated and believable.

And Gary Oldman in Slow Horses.

We were shown the Emma Thompson scene during one of our screen acting classes. She conveyed such emotional depth in that brief moment of realisation - our hearts were all breaking for her.
