Convinced we have a gas leak, terrified!

I smelt gas in our garden yesterday while I was feeding the birds. It didn’t go away, so I followed the instructions on the meter and called the emergency gas man out. He couldn’t detect a leak inside but a build up in the flue leading outside, he capped it and left. We then called the landlord who sent his gas guy out who was swearing and unprofessional and told us he couldn’t find a problem but will speak to the ll. he’s come back today and said all the readings are fine, nothing needs fixing and left.
Well I’ve just walked in to the kitchen where the boiler is to a massively strong smell of gas! I have sent the kids upstairs, opened all windows and doors and he is sending his guy round again but they both seem pissed off.
Wtaf do I do? I have three kids here and I am convinced there is a leak but I feel like we are being told it’s all in our heads. I feel so anxious and unsafe. DH can smell it as well.
We can’t just leave as I have a disabled DD and pets but the LL seems determined to let us risk it and just said “well it is cold tonight” but I’ve been in this house years now and never smelt gas in the house. Something is definitely wrong.

Is it windy with you OP? Our boiler very occasionally has a smell if the wind is in a particular direction. It’s not exactly gas like, more fumes type smell, and only when its not in our prevailing wind direction, so once in a blue moon. We’ve had several engineers look at it, but all say I’m imagining it! I’m not, but can only assume its something the wind causes.

Do you know the name of the man/ business the landlord sent out to sort it? You can search on the Gas Safe website
Each Gas safe engineer should carry an ID card to say who they are and what they are qualified to work on.

Yes but the readings are saying there is nothing wrong and no gas leak! If they said otherwise of course i wouldn’t risk my children’s safety.

But they where the readings from yesterday things have now escalated and you have a strong smell of gas in your house and instead of doing anything about it your arguing with people on mumsnet

No I’m anxious and looking for support while I wait for this engineer to be finished

If your anxious call the emergency line

Yesterday you smelt it in the garden today inside your house, maybe the flue is blocked or maybe there actually is a leak, have you got a carbon monoxide meter. Is the boiler inside the house, who is there now, ll mate or the gas company engineer.

Yes we have a detector that didn’t go off. The ll’s engineer is here at the moment but when he leaves I think I’m just going to call the emergency people out again. He’s told us the seals are all fine and has cleaned it and can’t find a problem and no leak is being detected. He said the flame might be lifting? And combined with how freezing and windy it is that could be the cause.

We had cadent come out. They found high gas levels inside. They checked and found tg
the gas was coming from the oven and shut off the gas. Our plumber came out and said the levels were within legal levels and the gas was only turned off because I could actually smell gas. He turned the gas back on and turned off the gas stopcock behind the over and said he'd come back with a part. Anyway, he left us without a gas hob for a month, wanker!

If there's no leak then there's no leak. You can get a gas smell outside with the boiler going and the cold weather.

To be honest lots of panicking on this thread.
The emergency gas people literally just come and do a few basic checks and if there's anything uncertain they just cap it off. That's just their job, capping off gas supplies if it's anything after the meter.
The engineer sounds like they know what they are doing. They check the internal pipework for a pressure drop, then if that's ok do the prescribed checks on the appliance.
Given the burner is in the flue system and gas doesn't light instantly, there's a high chance of gas in the flue and it doesn't mean an issue.
I suspect the cold weather and windy weather has perhaps caused the boiler to be on more and maybe the wind has blown it out. A bit like if you blow hard enough on a gas hob it goes out.
If it's been checked then it seems like it's all ok OP, so I think just see how it goes once the weather calms down.
Take care.

@johnd2 It isn't panicking to tell someone to call the emergency gas number if they smell gas, or to go outside while you wait for them to arrive so they can make your home safe. You have to treat a potential gas leak seriously.

Ask to see the Gas Safe registration of the LL's engineer. He should be specifically registered and qualified to work on all the different gas appliances in your home. Check the Gas Safe register website. Then call Gas Safe and let them know you are concerned that there is still an issue and that the LL's man has left you at risk. They should send someone to check their work. If he isn't registered, tell your landlord he is acting illegally - you MUST be registered to work on any UK gas system. Pay for your own gas safe engineer to check it if necessary. You cannot take risks with gas.
