Hi all
I tried a Charlie Bigham’s meal for the first time yesterday. I was busy with some clearing and declutter if and didn’t have a lot in to make a meal and was pressed for time so I thought I would give it a try. I was please when reading the ingredients list no additives. Are they on the healthier side of the ready meals? I chose the vegetable lasagne and it was very tasty. I’m it it with skme
chips and veg to bulk it out a bit.

how do you rate them if you have tried them?

Funnily enough, I had my first one this week (yellow stickered).

I kbow mumsnet is all about cooking from scratch, but sometimes, I am knackered and get an impulsiv4 take away. To avoid this, this I am adding one take away style meal to the weekly shop.

These meals woukd be perfect for that.

Sidebeforeself · 16/11/2025 09:40

There isn’t such a thing as a healthy meal though. It’s about the balance of your diet not one meal in isolation. People buying anything on the illusion that it’s healthy are daft.

ohwoaw · 16/11/2025 09:40

They are nice. I’d never pay full price though. They’re often reduced. Ok for an occasional thing but not exactly healthy

They aren’t healthy.

They are healthy for ready meals in that not full of crap. But they aren't low fat.

@Needtosoundoffandbreathe The Op was acknowledging the lack of chewy prawns in the CB meal.

bottledboot · 16/11/2025 09:42

@MyThreeWords you said it better than me. And yes I find the price prohibitive.

stackhead · 16/11/2025 09:42

We get the Thai ones (one red, one green) for a cheaper takeaway option and they are yummy.

Spenny though, but cheaper than ordering in.

Mostly found them quite poor, and the portions tiny.

You can't have found them that bad if you're also complaining about the portion sizes! 😂

Cynic17 · 16/11/2025 09:49

Very good, and worth the extra cost.

onlymethen · 16/11/2025 09:49

I’ve only had the moussaka and found it very disappointing, I think because of the price I expected better. I never buy ready meals so can’t compare to others.
wouldnt buy again not even if it was on a yellow sticker.

racoonsinbins · 16/11/2025 09:51

We love the curry, particularly the Thai ones. They’re often on special offer and we never have takeaway so tend to eat them every couple of weeks. Find the two person ones are perfect portion sizes. Quality as good as most takeaways but certainly not a particularly health option.

Eggybreadwithnuts · 16/11/2025 09:51

Small portions and expensive.
The chicken tikka masala for 2...my DH ate as no way enough for us both

OrangesCinammonIvy · 16/11/2025 09:51

Love the fish pie I buy it if on offer or for a little treat now and then.not tries others

Evolutionarygoals · 16/11/2025 09:52

I enjoy their curries. Haven't tried the other options. Yes they are a bit pricy, but we use them to replace a takeaway rather than a home cooked meal. The price doesn't seem too bad compared to 40-50 quid. Health wise, I like that they don't have many (any?) UFP ingredients. And again, if the alternative is a takeaway where we'd probably be having starters and sides, then being a little on the calorific side doesn't bother us.

ACynicalDad · 16/11/2025 09:52

We eat them a bit in self catering holidays but wouldn’t want them much more than that. 6.5/10 7 if I’m feeling generous.

fairislecable · 16/11/2025 09:55

I think they are a very tasty flavoursome product. I can make a lovely fish pie (Jamie Oliver), but when busy or unwell CB is perfect.

When on holiday the CB meals are perfect at the end of a long day out and about.

Home cooking takes time and effort and when the resident cook needs a break the CB meals are perfect.

RosesAndHellebores · 16/11/2025 09:55

Well marketed, reasonable quality packet food. If I had to buy for 4 adults that would be £19 for lasagne. For £19 I can make 12 portions and it's healthier and tastes better.

Holluschickie · 16/11/2025 09:56

Their curries are dire. But most ready meals are.

Clawdy · 16/11/2025 10:00

I love them, so much nicer than anything I can cook! Meatballs Al Forno, Fish Pie, Lasagne…. Love the curries too.

sundayroastnewbie · 16/11/2025 10:02

They taste good but are far too expensive for what they are - and the portion sizes are very mean.

FcukBreastCancer · 16/11/2025 10:03

I dont like the smell of the wooden container getting cooked in my gas oven.
Overall I prefer Cook and get the 20% off weekly special when passing

Motnight · 16/11/2025 10:06

Lindtnotlint · 16/11/2025 09:29

I really like them, and their calorie content is pretty reasonable if eaten between two as the portion size suggests. I am not sure there is any evidence they are unhealthy. (Except for the salt point, fair enough). We eat about one a week as a break from cooking that is cheaper and healthier than a takeaway! It never causes calorie count breaking here. Salad on side. Yum yum.

Similar. Like the beef bourguinon and the chicken tikka masala in particular. Cheaper than Cook.

Attictroll · 16/11/2025 10:11

Very expensive for what they are imho. And the ads with you wouldn’t believe he’s real annoy me a lot…who wouldn’t believe a posh man was able to set up a business like this …. He’s a posh entrepreneurial “oh I had a business idea and I was so wealthy I could make it happen trope” sorry they turn me off the meals as it’s so entitled

80smonster · 16/11/2025 10:12

I like them in place of a takeaway, I wouldn’t say they are healthy per se. How on earth does anyone eat chips with Lasagna, it’s double carbs. Agree with others, if time isn’t a factor you can make nicer versions yourself, in greater quantities.

Garamousalata · 16/11/2025 10:13

Tried them, I think they’re awful.
