The BBC are screwed, aren't they?

Are we ever going to find out who actually made the monumental fuck up? Rather than just a homogenous apology from the top.

Is this person/people still working for them?

I actually understand why Trump is doing this. You can't just let something so wrong pass by or they'll just keep doing it.

A composite image shows a picture of Trump in a blue suit and yellow tie on the left, and a picture of BBC offices in London on the right

Trump says he will sue BBC for at least $1bn over Panorama edit

The US president confirmed he intends to sue the broadcaster for at least $1bn over the Panorama edit of a 2021 speech.

So multiple threads about something indicate bad faith actors?

Perhaps. It's possible.

LilySad91 · 15/11/2025 15:42

That's the whole point - he never encouraged the crowd to march up and fight. When he was talking about fighting, it was a totally different context.

The fact that you think he was encouraging the crowd to fight rather suggests the BBC succeeded in misleading the public, which rather suggests that Trump deserves a huge amount in compensation

They did what they did just after he said fight for your country or you won't have a country to fight for. It was clear watching it.

He might want to consider the general vibe of his people currently before reminding them, is all.

All fodder for the Beeb to cover though, no doubt.

I think people want to discuss it because it’s relevant to them.

Anything’s possible. Is it likely?

Is it possible that someone on Trumps side made this happen as a way of damaging the BBC's reputation? It's in his interests to do that given that the BBC is reportedly the second most trusted news site in America. He wants media who will share his message and not question him.

No it is just purely they hate Trump so much they have done this. 😂

Why do people hate him, in your opinion?
And why do you like him (which I assume from the tone of your post)?

As I watched it live I disagree. Repeatedly shouting at people to fight is the same and it came across when watching it live.

This is a lie. Do you work for BBC Verify?

He used the word 'fight' twice in the entire speech, immediately after each other, and it was in a vague context of fighting for things that you know are right but you're told are wrong.

He immediately followed saying 'fight like hell' by saying we're going to walk down to Capitol Hill to "try and give" Republican senators an idea of the support they have.

He used the word 'peacefully' more times in the speech than 'fight'

I knew he incited them riot from the day it happened - and I haven’t seen the documentary.
Was it silly of the production company (not the BBC) to splice like that? Yes.
Was it a failure of governance for the BBC not to spot it before broadcast? Also yes.
Was it a lie? No
Did it damage his reputation? No
Did it cause him harm? No. He was re-elected.

Please point to the bit in the speech where he incited a riot

Yup the concept of that makes me giggle.

What reputation :-)

A convicted felon, found guilty of fraud. Also found in court to be a sexual assaulter. A man who appears incapable of putting 2 sentences together without a lie.

I do not hate him or like him. However, I do hate the left and will always support anyone against the left. They are a disease.

‘Potentially likely’ - fgs, just say what you mean.

1457bloom · 15/11/2025 15:57

Trump is suing most US networks, it’s how he flexes his power, threatening costly legal cases is how he gets away with so much, it was probably how he was successful in real estate. Whatever happens the BBC MUST NOT SETTLE, otherwise it will lose all credibility.

Not looking for anything. Just noting and bemoaning the perpetual anti BBC posts on MN.

I hate him because he’s vile - thin skinned, aggressive, rude, all manner of things like that. I would call myself slightly right of centre but that doesn’t mean I like Trump. There are a lot of decent conservatives out there, he isn’t one of them. However this polarised way of thinking means everyone has to SIDE. And it’s the siding (instantly jumping to whichever position your ‘side’ supports with no critical thought) which is ruining society.

1457bloom · 15/11/2025 16:00

Sadly MN is full of bots who endlessly defend the indefensible, genocide anyone, MN bots are all for it. Just don’t take the bait, these are not real people.

MikeRafone · 15/11/2025 16:01

EasternStandard · 15/11/2025 08:28

Why is it too late?

They believe there is a time frame to sue, but from what I can gather he could possibly do it a convoluted way - we shall have to see - its two different justice systems

the BBC have though showed they only react when they are pushed to react - they don't give a monkeys about whether what they are producing is correct or not, sad really sad

I mean the only person caught as a ‘bot’ was Zarah Sultana when she blamed ‘bad faith right wing actors’ for something that turned out to be none other than Jeremy Corbyn 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Exactly and all of this will be made clear every time this comes up on their news.It is the perfect way for any media station to be justified in opening any past errors of judgement he has had and remind the country what a buffoon they have representing them, BBC polls highly over there too.

No I don't work for them, but this won't dent them.

FMLpassthegin · 15/11/2025 16:06

Why is it suggested the license payers will fund the settlement? Surely the show and the BBC pays for insurance against this stuff? I guess I have that wrong?

Yup. And we are in the "post truth era", largely thanks to Trump.

He is the guy doing the most to shape politics in such a way that truth is now his opinion.

The other day he said Marjorie Taylor Greene has gone "far left"

Full on Monty Python territory.

Of course the BBC should be held to account. That goes without saying.

If it was deemed by a court the BBC was negligent or malicious then any insurance would be invalid.

If you can’t understand sub text, I can’t help you.
Jan6 rioters used the speech as part of their defence. They and their legal representatives felt he’d incited them. It was what I took from it too.
