No do not dry them in dryer it might ruin them. Warm radiator?

FancyCatSlave · 10/11/2025 09:57

They will deteriorate much faster if you tumble them, the material that does the absorption doesn’t do well with heat but I have tumbled mine in emergencies. I just wouldn’t make a habit of it.

I do an extra spin and then radiator dry but we have air source heating so the radiators are on all the time but at a gentle heat. If you have hot radiators I would hang above.

I gradually increased my stash so I didn’t need to re-wear a pair during my cycle.

PractisingMyTelekenipsis · 10/11/2025 10:00

You're not meant to tumble dry them, but i have occasionally. I put mine in the airing cupboard.

DancingInTheMoonlights · 10/11/2025 10:03

I dry my daughter’s on one of these, either in the bathroom over the shower rail, curtain pole (not in the front windows!), off the clothes horse or near a radiator:

Peg them up on a sock dryer and hang them over a de-humidifier.

We have a de-humidifier with clothes horse anyway to speed up drying and stop moisture getting trapped in the house over winter. Does take a while for them to dry - though heating on helps obviously - and do with all house dried washing put on for extra spins in washing machine.

Carrotsingravy · 10/11/2025 10:30

Mine are just dried with all the other clothes on an airer with dehumidifier. We don't have a tumble drier and usually dry everything this way, it works fine.

Us too, it's great for drying washing. We put the airer in the bathroom early in the morning and just leave it all day, normal washing takes about 6 hours (quicker if it is sunny) but PP do take longer. After that 6 hours the heating will usually be on so I put them on a radiator to finish off.
It is really annoying in winter but DD much prefers them to pads so I suck it up for her!

user2848502016 · 10/11/2025 10:42

Both DDs wear them and I do tumble dry on low if I can’t line dry them

Isobel201 · 10/11/2025 10:48

I've been drying my M&S period pants in the tumble dryer for months since getting them, I have had no issues with leaking. I use them for incontience issues so I wear them as my main knickers.

mindutopia · 10/11/2025 10:51

You could put them on the radiator.

Personally, mine go right in the dryer. I have some that are pre-COVID, so easily 6 years old and perfectly fine being tumble dried regularly.

Seeline · 10/11/2025 11:00

Hang them on the airer next to the radiator with all the other undies. We don't have a tumble dryer.

Bagamama · 10/11/2025 11:10

They do get almost dry on the washing line on a cold dry day. I pop them on the peg octopus inside to finish off drying.
DD has a lot of period pants though so don't have to rush them through the wash.

PearlTeapot · 10/11/2025 11:16

I have a heated airer but put them straight on the radiators if they're on.

DingDongJingle · 10/11/2025 11:18

Mine go in the tumble dryer. Hasn’t caused any issues so far.

crappycrapcrap · 10/11/2025 11:21

Tumble dryer is fine

PirateDays · 10/11/2025 11:24

Off topic slightly but can I ask - I have never used period pants, do you wear one pair for the whole day? Just wondering if you need to change them as much as towels. Thanks!

CraftyNavySeal · 10/11/2025 11:25

What type of period pants are they? I have the microfibre type from M&S so they dry quite quickly.

supersun23 · 10/11/2025 11:35

Thanks all, they are M&S. For those who don't wash straight away, how do you do this hygienically? I currently have rinsed through, damp pants in a drawer waiting for a dry day!

I tend to wear towels on top then remove those for afternoon. They wouldn't last a whole day for me on a heavy day.

On a just in case day - late 40s so can have those - or very light days would wear like normal pants and take off and change when get home.

I do a two-tier soak. First, I soak them in cold water for a few hours, then rinse, then soak them again in cold water with an enzyme cleaner for another few hours. Rinse again and then they go in the wash.

You never get them fully clean, but I cut one open a few weeks ago and it was not too bad.

FancyCatSlave · 10/11/2025 12:01

I still have the lidded nappy bucket from when DD had reusable nappies. It lives in the bathroom, and rinsed ones go in there until washed. We also use reusable wipes still so I tend to do both on same wash to make it bigger.

I also have wet bags so would use those if I didn’t have the bucket.

PearlTeapot · 10/11/2025 12:05

I rinse under cold water and put them in a zipped up wet bag. I wash them all in one go, my period lasts 5 days, I have 10 pairs for night and day.

@PirateDays I still wear pads to catch most of it and to make me feel fresher which I change throughout the day. The pants just give me security. I dont wear pads overnight though. I am HEAVY and always amazed to have woken up with no leaks.

I get 8-12 hours out of mine. So I only change 1-2 times in 24hrs. If I am WFH and it’s a super heavy day I will do something like 7am-3pm, 3pm-bedtime, bedtime-morning.

If it is a office day and super heavy I might do a tampon for a few hours first thing to buy me a bit of extra time as my office day is 12hours with commute. That saves a change in work time.

Wow! What brand?

I can't imagine getting though a night without pads or leaks (or presumably a mid-night change, as you don't mention one). Although we may have definitions of HEAVY.

PearlTeapot · 10/11/2025 12:32

I wear modi bodi overnight. I tried loads and spent a fortune but these are the only ones that get me through a night. I wear their heaviest ones.

(Previously I wore a super plus tampon, with two extra heavy pads covering my entire knickers and I'd still be awake in the middle of the night flooding onto the bed. I haven't leaked onto my bed once in the time since I got these).
