Where are all the large jars of Marmite?

Is it just my corner of London or is there (gulp) A Shortage? Trying not to panic BUT IT’S BEEN THREE WEEKS NOW (… and breathe). Seriously though we get through the smaller ones so quickly it doesn’t make sense. Plus it doesn’t taste the same from smaller jars. (Stop me if I’m getting too technical.)

(Yes I do have bigger things to think about. But it’s Marmite and therefore worthy of note and query.)

Put your bank cards away before opening this link.

I am really tempted by the knife.

I was gifted a yellow one of these and it truly is fabulous for the last remains in the jar (alternatively; I read recently that some people add a little boiling water into the near empty jar, shake then add to bolognese/casseroles etc.)

The thing I’m missing from my life is M and S marmite cheese clouds. They suddenly disappeared and my snack time has not recovered

I have some hot buttered toast , please can I be your friend?

Sure, come over! There’s also marmite rice cakes and marmite cheese so a feast practically

I saw some marmite cloud things the other day… home bargains in the crisp section
I remember because they jumped out with the protein written on the front

Ha! We don’t have a home bargains nearby but I’m happy to travel!

The protein element was what justified me eating so many of them tbh

Scandalous to some but I actually prefer the Aldi version

Me too!! It's very similar but definitely better. Even my seriously fussy 15 year old son agrees!

Marmite??? Large jars?????

What is wrong with you people??!!!

The only reason someone should buy a large jar of Marmite is to blow it up and make sure it is absolutely obliterated from the face of this planet.

Please, please tell me that this is the reason you want to buy them so much?

Infidel.

I want Marmite now. Mmmmm.

@MNHQplease ban these posters. This thread is both offensive and disturbing.

<tongue in a marmite-less cheek obvs>

I am seriously alarmed. It's bad enough that Marmite cannot bear its name in Australia (copyright means it's My Mate FFS). Also Burger King has to be Hungry Jack's - what a shit name.
The only ready supply, of any size, is in the International section of Coles, and patchy enough and I'm glad I grabbed two jars last week.
As it's made in the UK but packed in Sri Lanka, I'm imagining a Maersk container load of the stuff heading Australia-wards right now.

You need to leave quietly

Firdbeeder · 08/11/2025 07:41

At least you can still find Marmite. I’m still traumatised by the slow discovery that Marmite peanut butter could no longer be found on the supermarket shelves.

echt · 08/11/2025 07:42

Sorry. Our Mate, not My Mate.

Shodan · 08/11/2025 07:47

I had to buy a thumb size jar in Morrison's recently because it was all they had. And it was £2.60!!!!!!!!!!!

Marmite is a staple here but I do actually quite like the Morrison's own brand too- it's a bit like a cross between Marmite and Bovril.

I miss he chilli marmite. I bought every jar I could find but I ran out a long while ago and now it’s just a distant memory. 😢

It’s not an exaggeration to say I think of dynamite marmite every day 😂 I was blindsided, I’d bought multiple jars and so then didn’t even realise it was discontinued until it was too late.

Augustus40 · 08/11/2025 08:03

There was no large jar in our local Asda the past two weeks.

It has gone on my "list of stiff I don't need but want" ( that mostly filled with lakeland things )
I also often rinse the jars out with hot water and add it to fried mushrooms or just drink it !

This has recently been added to Tesco shelves again!
Relaunched perhaps two months ago?

>>makes a full loaf of toast and packs a overnight bag with ( homemade) marmite peanut butter<<
@Firdbeeder I miss the peanut butter too so I make my own .
Use whichever peanut butter you like , very gently warm it up a bit until its almost runny then stir in your marmite.
I use a 500g jar of pb and about 1½ tablespoons of marmite

I like the squeezy packs because I can’t stand messy jars or butter smears/crumbs in the jar and OTHER PEOPLE cannot be trusted to use a clean knife. A large jar would inevitably become tainted and therefore unusable for me. It took ages for the squeezy packs to come back after the covid shortage

AnchorWHAT · 08/11/2025 10:46

Same round here, i resorted to buying on amazon.

NotForTheMoneyandNotForTheApplause · 07/11/2025 21:58

What is the bulk buy section? Intrigued as my local tesco doesn't have one of those

Costco for large marmite for me too, once you've seen how cheap it is for the plastic tub it's impossible to pay jar prices 😂

Edited

It's nothing special, just about 1/4 aisle with catering size packs of things like teabags, washing powder etc. Usually somewhere between the frozen food and loo roll aisles.

hexsnidgett · 08/11/2025 22:06

I notice they have large jars in QD here in East Anglia. Are the QDs in London?
