DD (5) has asked for 2 Our Generation girls for Christmas.

Parent 1 thinks that one doll is enough. Two is daft and she is likely to only want to play with one. Two makes it not special.

Parent 2 thinks she has narrowed it down to 2 and cannot make a decision which her favourite is. It's not unusual to have more than one doll and it just means it comes out of the budget for her, it doesn't increase it.

Who are you with - 1 or 2?

Disclaimer - this is very light-hearted. Yes our children hear the word no. No this is not a massive issue.

Can you get her one and another family member get her the other? I’d be inclined to get both if they are the only 2 things they have asked for, unless they are insanely expensive?

Parent 2 vote from me

barskits · 07/11/2025 16:12

Agree with @PevenseygirlQQ - this is what grandparents are for!

Kindnesscostsnothingtryit · 07/11/2025 16:12

It will be like getting twins for Christmas 😀

stichguru · 07/11/2025 16:12

How does she usually play with dolls? If she likes handling, changing their outfits etc, well she can only to that to one at once. If she's more imaginative will they be sisters? friends? mum and child? in her games.

Starrystarrysky · 07/11/2025 16:13

Team Parent 2 - in our house all dolls combine in larger imagination games such as schools and families. Of course you can play with more than one!

barskits · 07/11/2025 16:13

Could it be she just wants one doll but multiple outfits, and she thinks that you have to buy the doll with the outfit?

RomeoRivers · 07/11/2025 16:14

I just goggled them because my DD is 5.

I was team 2, until I saw they are those ridiculously big dolls - my DD wouldn’t be getting any! 😂

But if you aren’t opposed to the dolls themselves, then 1 is plenty.

I've gone over this with her and she does get it though it sways her, one has sparkles under her eyes which she loves. I think they are the thing that is drawing her to the other doll

V clearly im parent two

Unfortunately my in laws don't buy them Christmas presents and neither does my father and my mum is dead so I don't have anyone else to buy her things like this.

AutumnLeavesFallingFast · 07/11/2025 16:20

You are right, get her both, tell parent 2 he's being daft.

CoastalCalm · 07/11/2025 16:21

When is her birthday ? I’d negotiate one now and one for her birthday - by then she may have got bored with the one she gets for Christmas and Father Christmas only has limited stock for all the other children

She's already got one Our Generation and a baby Annabelle and they are sisters

This made me really happy. Keep thinking of her face when she opens both.

Get her both She's only little. Let her enjoy the magic of Christmas.

firstofallimadelight · 07/11/2025 16:47

Yeah I’d say you get one and someone else gets her one. Twos absolutely fine but I wouldn’t want to get both as I want to get other stuff

If her birthday is between now and end of march i'd get one now amd one for birthday.

Thats mainly because i am always scrabbling for things to buy DD so 2 "asks" is a gift to me.

Nandina · 07/11/2025 16:53

I'd get both.

NoMoreBrownSofas · 07/11/2025 16:53

As I said it's October

Grilledxribs · 07/11/2025 17:01

If you can afford it op just get her the 2 dolls.

OilyTussle · 07/11/2025 17:03

I’d get them both. It’s very disappointing when you don’t get what you really, really want for Christmas when you are 5 - especially when you get presents that people think you would like just as much.
(I may be biased as DS has asked for a rock and a stone, and I’m struggling to get him to think of anything else he might like. He will definitely be getting both the things he’s asked for)
