Are you an Aunty or an Auntie spelling person? It was Aunty in my household.

Always been Auntie. That's what it says on the cards in the shops.

BuffaloCauliflower · 07/11/2025 08:39

I use Auntie

EnchantingDecoration · 07/11/2025 08:41

I can't remember what my Aunties used to put and we never really used it much with our nieces and nephews (verbally yes but phased out fairly early). I couldn't really bring myself to write Auntie and Uncle on cards, gift tags etc. It made me feel ancient. But if I did I would use Auntie.

Keytoken · 07/11/2025 08:41

It was always Aunty in my family, but I have noticed it's impossible to buy that on a card now. I'm sure that wasn't always the case.

Iguessicoulddothat · 07/11/2025 08:42

Auntie, it looks nicer I think

Misla · 07/11/2025 08:42

Auntie

Although aunts tend to be aunts in my family.

AuntyAngela · 07/11/2025 08:43

Aunty. But I suppose i would say that 🤣

EnchantingDecoration · 07/11/2025 08:43

I've never noticed it on cards but we don't buy name type ones for anyone other than parents/grandparents.

purpleme12 · 07/11/2025 08:45

Auntie

DisplayPurposesOnly · 07/11/2025 08:51

Im having one of those 'I've looked at this word too much and now it's weird' moments.

Heyhelga · 07/11/2025 08:54

Auntie.

Dutchhouse14 · 07/11/2025 08:57

Auntie

AuntieDickhead · 07/11/2025 09:02

Auntie. Obviously

seven201 · 07/11/2025 09:04

Auntie for me.
my MIL refers to herself as Grannie, which I’m not keen on.

zazazaaarmm · 07/11/2025 09:06

My auntie's didn't want to be aunties. But we used Aunty for the family friends we called Aunty. I am now a very proud Auntie.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 07/11/2025 09:15

I only answer to aunt 😁

It's aunts in my family but we've always just used the person's name

I agree, I think the spelling has changed

SwanSong30 · 07/11/2025 09:24

I ended up googling which is the correct spelling, there isn’t one apparently, both spellings are correct in the UK!

Aunty
(North West England, if it is at all relevant!).

Plinketyplonks · 07/11/2025 09:49

The word does look strange now! We use auntie, I have quite a few! And when writing a Xmas card I do use the title of auntie and uncle etc. my mum uses grannie but I would write it granny - is grannie a Scottish thing? (She’s in Scotland)

Tammygirl12 · 07/11/2025 09:50

Auntie (from south) didn’t know aunty was a thing

Lifesd · 07/11/2025 09:51

Aunty but I also say mom…

Starthecar · 07/11/2025 10:24

Always Auntie.
I don't think I've ever seen 'Aunty' in print before.

BlueIndigoScarlet · 07/11/2025 10:26

I refer to myself as Auntie Blue but I have some lovely relatives that send me cards as Aunty Blue.

ilucgaiaw · 07/11/2025 10:26

I used auntie as a kid, as did my aunties. However at some point it seemed to magically change to aunty in our family.
Anyway, both ways are correct.
