How’s your morning going?
for context I’m white irish 😂
Poor love was upset that I wasn’t driving through the oncoming traffic at one of those width restrictors where we did not have priority. Thoughts and prayers for his blood pressure.

It’s not clear though. My question was responding to the op - there it was stated that someone had “just called” her a racist name. Given that the OP then states she is white Irish, I’m presuming she means a P word relating to her ethnicity.
It’s confusing that he would know this ethnicity when they are in different vehicles.
Furthermore OP says she couldn’t see the driver.
Hence it’s unclear how he knew her heritage.
It’s not rude it’s factual!

Lurkingandlearning · 07/11/2025 14:02

I’m glad you’ve found a possible solution going forward. Something crossed my mind that might give a different take on this. You said she is visiting for convenience. If she is there under less than happy circumstances she might be someone who eats more when stressed and / or comfort ears. That might explain why being provided with what would normally be sufficient food didn’t feel like enough. If that is likely she might not have been aware of it but if she was might not want to be open about it.

Telling your sister rather than you wasn’t helpful or fair. I hope your sister didn’t ask you not to mention their conversation and you will be able to broach this with your cousin sensitively but openly.

edit- Damn wrong thread

Fionasapples · 07/11/2025 14:20

I was crossing a road when a flash car came flying round the corner, in the middle of the road. I had to jump out of the way and the mid-life crisis little angry male driver gave me a foul look and mouthed something. He then stopped on the pavement next to a postbox and tried to post a letter from the driving seat. Hilariously, he missed and it fell on the floor and he had to get out to pick it up. I had caught up with him so I stopped and laughed at him. He shouted You fing bh, so I replied Likewise, darling!
Plonker.

Nobumsonthetable · 07/11/2025 15:29

@StrongLikeMammait was perfectly clear to everyone else!
I used as I didn’t want to put the racist word Pki in my title. But if I had been called a Paddy I would have used that. No one, literally no one, thinks P means Paddy. Except the poster who thought it means pink 😂.
This is on you, and your comprehension skills I’m afraid.

I'm Indian and have had lots of racist abuse recently. Mainly from white middle aged men with poor dental hygiene. How Nigel frarge must be thrilled.

I once gave way to an actual ambulance, so it could get to the hospital further up on the same road , while a man in the car behind gesticulated angrily at me for waiting.

After the ambulance had passed, I then waited another minute or so, pretending to adjust the rear view mirror while he got redder and redder and literally bounced up and down in his seat.

ETA we were in the direction going away from the hospital, in case that's not clear .

Darlyrey · 07/11/2025 16:48

I was driving through our local hospital …speed bumps, I think it was a 10mph area but I was coming to the entrance so it wasn’t forever
Arse hole in his 50s was behind me up my arse beeping and waving his hands in anger as I was going too slowly for him. I’m stubborn so I simply stopped and refused to carry on driving (no one else was on the road)
He went mental. Got out of his car and called me a ‘fucking slag’ my response ‘I’m a fucking slag and STILL wouldn’t shag you’ …I drove off

On the way to work I got stuck in a traffic jam. No idea what was happening but just complete standstill on our side of the road. The car immediately behind was beeping ( no one could move) and the driver was going redder and redder. Then he decided to do a three point turn, shot across the road, mounted the pavement and hit a lamp post. Obviously we are all laughing and he lost it even more, reversed wildly and hit another one! Couldn’t believe you could do it twice! Made the day of everyone in the queue judging from all the grinning!

Incredible

@SodOffbacktoaibu yep, you totally deserved it!

I was parallel parking outside my house the other morning and delayed the person behind me for a few seconds (l had already started the maneuver before he appeared behind me). He gave me the filthiest look as he drove past. It's a narrow 1 way road so he couldn't overtake me

I'm such an arsehole parking outside my own house, indicating, using my mirrors and doing it at the 1st attempt. Funniest part was he was a driving instructor!

Maybe l need to never park if there are any cars behind me ever!? Tricky as it's not a super quiet road...

There really is an epidemic of angry, usually middle aged men.

It reminds me of that saying, “men are worried that women will laugh at them and women are worried that men will kill them”

This. I got shouted at in a car park by one of these the other day.

I'm laughing at "wrong way Wendy" and "right way Rebecca" though 😂

TenWeeCaramelJoeys · 08/11/2025 10:33

I wish I was like the OP and could just laugh off stuff like this, but it always makes me feel a bit shit. I get home and make all the right noises to DP about someone’s aggressive, and often sexist language, towards me. We both get a bit annoyed, make a joke or two and agree the person was an arsehole. But I still feel crap for ages. I remember going to the dump with a load of branches from our garden and parking near the garden waste section, only for some angry, red faced, spitting man to loom over the car and tell me that someone else was ahead of me. He was just about to drive off, so it was none of his business. What did I do? I fucking apologised. Even though the place was pandemonium and there was no discernible queue. I then spoke to the man who was supposed to be ahead of me and he was perfectly lovely and said there was no way I could have known, given the chaos. Of course I had a right go at angry bloke on my way home in the car - in my imagination😅 But the whole experience honestly made me feel awful.

Ok, so I was basing my assumption on the info you gave about you being Irish/ white and presumed you therefore meant Paddy.

I didn’t assume someone would call you the racist term for Pakistani since you had told us that you were white.
That’s just totally not rational.

So I guess white van driver was angry, racist and thick or vision impaired too 🤷🏻‍♀️

Nobumsonthetable · 08/11/2025 11:42

@TenWeeCaramelJoeys ah you poor thing that’s horrible. It is upsetting to be shouted at and as women our default is often to appease/apologise. Because as PP said, we are afraid, not without reason, that they will kill us.
I am 50 now and men are generally afraid of me 😁 I’m menopausal and highly unpredictable 😂

My own example, just this morning. I was waiting to turn left into a very narrow lane. There were a couple of cars coming in the opposite direction, so I needed to wait for them to exit the junction before I could pull in. Bloke behind was jabbing on his horn and gesticulating wildly. I don't know if he expected me to drive into the oncoming cars or leapfrog them. Or maybe find a completely different route. I'm sure the 20 second delay was hugely detrimental to his day but really, he needs to go home, have a cup of tea and calm the fuck down.

And THEN it's a lovely sunny day here so I decided to go for a walk whilst DS was at his club, rather than sit in the car doom scrolling like I usually do. I was walking along the footpath, minding my own business, when some cretin started yapping out of his car window at me, like a Jack Russell. I assume he was conveying his important opinion that I am a "dog". Totally uncalled for. Twenty years ago I was getting wolf whistles and propositions. I don't know what's worse. Just men - urgh.

I was shouted at from a speeding car “ get out the way you white c*

just a month ago. The vileness of it .. some people are truly living in hell and sometimes it falls out of their mouths. Tragic.

It's weird isn't it. Where does it come from? This frothing, red faced, spitting rage over something so minor.
DD is learning to drive (she's at test level) and is actually very good. She's not hesitant, doesn't hold people up. Yet we've had men -and only men- beep her, speed past her in a rage while doing the speed limit for the road, drive up her arse while she's in a clearly displayed learner vehicle. Her driving instructor and I had a chat in passing the other day and she said that the fury she sees from men on the road to all her learners is unreal. You wonder what they are like at home with their partners and children.
