I'll preface this by saying I'm only familiar with the band's singles so I can’t accurately comment on the tracks from their extensive album back catalogue. But, if you can, go for it. My three in no particular order are:

Angie
You Can't Always Get What You Want
Honky Tonk Women

I didn't really hear much pop or rock music growing up. My lovely stepmom was a fan though, and I'd heard all the songs mentioned above, she always listened to music and Stones were her favorite. Reading the song names above...I miss her so much!

Moonlight Mile
Sympathy for the Devil.
You got the silver

I can't hear the name Angie without singing 'Aaaaauuunnnnngiiiiee'

Beast of Burden
Waiting on a friend

Love all of those and Before they make me run has brilliant lyrics including

"I wasn't looking too good but I was feeling real well"

"booze and pills and poweders, gotta chose your medicine"

Classic Keith, such a cool witty man.

lifeonmars100 · 05/11/2025 18:38

I really like Ride on baby from their much earlier days, same sort of vicious, put down dismissive lyrics as 19th Nervous Breakdown and Under My Thumb, yes they are sexist lyrics but as it the Stones I forgive them!

Arran2024 · 06/11/2025 22:35

Lady Jane

Paint It Black

Midnight Rambler
Under my Thumb
Lady Jane.
Small brag, I still have Mono versions of these. Really raw sounds.

TheTecknician · 07/11/2025 11:20

Not quite Rolling Stones but I quite liked 'A New Fashion' by Bill Wyman. I preferred it to 'Si, Si, Je Suis Un Rock Star' which was a little too novelty for my taste.

The best 'non-Stones, Stones song' has to be Memo From Turner, from the soundtrack of Performance.

Agreed, what a great song! It’s worth seeking out the alternative version with Traffic (well, Steve Winwood and Jim Capaldi) providing the backing. As much as I love Ry Cooder’s slide playing, Winwood edges it for me.

lifeonmars100 · 07/11/2025 18:35

Let's have an honourable mention for Cocksucker Blues, they owed Decca a song when they left the label, so they deliberately did this one secure in the knowledge that it was too obscene to be released

RedRec · 07/11/2025 19:15

She's a Rainbow
Come On
Paint it Black
Time is on My Side
Out of Time (although think I actually prefer the Chris Farlowe version)

Their earlier stuff, generally.

None of them. My sibling played them on a daily basis growing up and I can't listen to them ever again 😂

Especially not the one that goes whoop woo.
