How to stop disgusting photos on Facebook feed

JellyBabiesmunch · 02/11/2025 20:37

I am sick of revolting photos on the top feed of Facebook. They are just random suggested posts and are stomach churning. I am so disturbed by them I want to close my account. I don’t know how to turn them off.

Mine aren’t numbered, they have the icon of the profile picture in the corner.

FoxRedPuppy · 02/11/2025 21:30

A quick google seems to suggest that it is related to pages that you have followed. Sometimes they look like something you might like, you follow after watching a video etc. But people sell on Facebook pages with large followings and sometimes they aren’t what they seem.

The suggestion on Reddit was to go through and unfollow some of the more recent pages you have followed (not friends, but companies /pages like Fat Face, BBC etc).

JellyBabiesmunch · 02/11/2025 21:35

How do I even see what I’m following? I can’t work it out. I haven’t liked anything I can think of which would prompt such revolting photos.

Go into settings and play around.

You would have liked something that seemed normal, a page about healthy cooking. But actually it isn’t that and the algorithm sees what it really is. Or the nice page is sold to something more hideous.

Id you have a google you will see lots of instructions on how to deal with it

Same here. Really freaky and awful pictures.
Deformed babies, really huge people etc etc.
No idea how to get rid. Are they better when your not using the app.

I’m using the app
and don’t get any of that?

Yes I get really stressed just opening Facebook now. I don’t know what to do about it .

There's a fairly simple solution, it's a cess pool, another good reason to stay off it.

Edited

It's the same for me. What is so fucking hideous about it is that it is harm to Animals/Birds etc or animals eating other animals/birds whilst they are still alive. Most of the things I post or like on FB is my love and defence for all creatures so they have taken that and used it against me. It is abhorrent.
I've tried to get rid of it all but it keeps coming back.
I hardly go on FB now.

RollerSkateLikePeggy · 02/11/2025 22:38

It's probably worth going to your settings, then Ad Preferences, the Ad topics (more clicks than that, but that's what you are aiming for.) go through all of them and remove any which could even vaguely relate to what you're seeing.

DoolallyDrifter · 02/11/2025 22:44

If you click the X in top right corner of the post it gives you options....something like tell us why you don't like this post. I just choose offensive or similar then it says they wont show me it or similar again.

But yes my feed is full of shit ive no interest in by things/groups/people i don't follow.

NormasArse · 02/11/2025 22:47

I’ve just deleted fb because the overt racism was making me really angry. Not from my friends- openly hateful comments on news articles.

Changingplace · 02/11/2025 22:47

You have to click on them and say ‘not interested’ and it’ll change your algorithm, I had a weird spate of getting ridiculous AI videos on Instagram but you just need to keep clicking not interested/unfollow and your feed will change.

Don’t use Facebook?

LavenderBlue19 · 02/11/2025 22:52

In that place on mine I see Stories friends and groups I follow have posted.

What I suspect has happened is a group you follow (could be anything) has been hacked or has just sold its following to someone who is now using it to post these horrible photos. What does it say at the bottom when it's a horrible photo? Like where it says Fly London on the third one? That will be the name of the group posting them.

wetpebbles · 02/11/2025 22:55

Hold your finger on them and it will show you which page you’re following then click unfollow, I’ve noticed sometimes pages change their content and the reels can be nothing to do with the page you originally followed

Brefugee · 02/11/2025 23:24

i don't get any overt (or covert, come to that) racism. Because none of my friends are racist.

crappycrapcrap · 02/11/2025 23:25

I found I’d accidentally followed pages having seen a reel and scrolled on but accidentally clicked follow - now I’ve realised I can see it’s very easy to do. Click on all the unpleasant stuff and unfollow or block

I already do this - time after time and it just comes back.
FB has turned into a cesspit.

crackofdoom · 02/11/2025 23:52

I've never suffered from this myself.

But teen DS opened an account (ironically to open the animal videos I was sending him), and his suggested posts were awful. All AI soft porn- women with enlarged boobs and bums, getting round the community guidelines by wearing flesh coloured leggings that outlined everything. Oh, and a few fancy cars.

It shocked me to the core that they were pushing that on under 16s.

Lanva · 03/11/2025 06:36

My MIL has this problem too and she's not clicking on terrible things. I've been trying to find out how to stop it for her but there seems to be no real way to do it.

I don't use these hellscape sites - only elderly people and children really use them any more - and I think they have just gone completely off the rails!

It is a cesspit, no doubt. Unfortunately it is a source of some interesting information at times. I really don’t like it anymore in general however.

I got this once recently - I don't often go on Fb but it was pimple popper disgusting close ups.
Must be viral attacks or something. I am on a couple of innocuous hobby groups only. but I did wonder about my DGCs seeing this stuff

SweepLovesSoo · 03/11/2025 06:46

Do you think it’s because of posting on clickbate posts?

There are countless posts that are clearly put up to attract people to post. Like say a picture of the King and Queen and then the caption says ‘Charles and Diana’ and then three hundred thousand people post underneath saying ‘that’s Camilla’. Or a photo shopped photo of a celebrity getting married or having lost half their body weight.

They are clearly posting those initial posts to attract the more susceptible people and end up with a list of three hundred thousand profiles of people who are more easily manipulated and who are willing to engage. I don’t know what happens next…but something. Otherwise it wouldn’t happen.

PP specifically said it’s in the comments on news articles. I’m read them deliberately because none of my friends are racist and I need regular reminding that cesspools are still out there. That was pre the flag nonsense.

Brefugee · 03/11/2025 08:00

i read news articles on newspapers and not from sites like Facebook, X or even BlueSky

but tbh if anyone's sm feed is so awful it puts them off, then time to delete

for the pp above with the teenage son: presumably he has entered his age and possibly sex/gender? (I can't remember what you do to register for fb, i did it yonks ago) it is really shocking what gets pushed at people according to their demographic. That is awful.

Yes, gender and age.
(Although it's entirely possible he looked at and liked a couple of soft porn images to trigger that deluge).
It shook me that they don't do more to protect children.
