Trick or treat time?

Just wondering what time do you all usually get trick or treaters in your area? We’ve got tonnes of sweets but so far no one has come!

Littles here start about 5ish and we get them until about 9ish.

DeathMetalMum · 31/10/2025 17:35

I've seen a few about but I'd say from 6pm onwards. So people have time to get back from work and get ready before going out or being in to give out sweets.

Logoplanter · 31/10/2025 17:36

DD and her friend have just gone out now.

I would say 5ish to 8.30ish. Have you got a pumpkin outside?

Screenager · 31/10/2025 17:37

We haven’t had anyone yet either. Guaranteed they’ll start as soon as i sit down for dinner

Yep and some Halloween lights - as have many other homes on our street. But just 0 trick or treaters so far! Hopefully some come soon before I dig into the chocolates 😁

It’s early yet! We don’t go until after 6 because it gives people chance to get home from work and get sorted

BingBongBish · 31/10/2025 17:40

6pm onwards as most people aren't home from work before that.

evtheria · 31/10/2025 17:42

DS has gone to a schoolmate’s area (approx 6 miles from us) and was told they’d start trick or treating around 5…
I’m slightly horrified and hoping that’s correct, as no one starts until about 6 in our area and people would be annoyed if kids knocked that early!

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 31/10/2025 17:52

I've had three wee girls at half five but I didn't expect anyone until six

Octavia64 · 31/10/2025 17:53

First ones at 4. Pretty solid for the last two hours (we live in an area with a lot of Americans!)

ShiftySquirrel · 31/10/2025 17:58

I've had one so far and just sent teen DD and her two friends out whilst it's dark but not bucketing with rain.

Older teen is still getting ready for a party but doesn't need to be anywhere until after 7pm.

We’ve had a really disappointing experience this year (and last year to be fair). For us it starts around 5.15 and then we have to switch the lights off at 6.30. We’ve had some lovely families but also a lot of kids just now who don’t say “trick or treat”/ walk into our house rather than staying on the path/ will stuff their hands into the bowl and get tons of the stuff/ never say thank you… plus
some kids backchat us with “I want more than that” or “I don’t want that it’s disgusting”.

I don’t understand why the parents can’t teach them basic manners.

ViciousCurrentBun · 31/10/2025 18:03

20 kids so far, our road is a trick or treat hotspot.

All polite

We've had over 50. We're between a few schools and every year it's a brilliant few hours of costumes and chaos.🎃

Freysimo · 31/10/2025 18:04

In our village, children only call at houses with Halloween stuff outside. Mums arrange a party at the village hall. I've not had any callers for years!

MNNnnn · 31/10/2025 18:05

By nature I'm the Halloween equivalent of a Scrooge, but I've been slowly won over in recent years and generally do pumpkins etc and now quite like to see you g children having fun because why shouldn't they. DC have been sent out with DH while I put my feet up with a glass of wine await callers while cooking dinner.

No one has knocked yet and I'm disappointed ☹️ Admittedly my road is very quiet but I usually get the children and grandchildren of neighbours by now at least. Anyway - come knock at mine children of MN!

TokyoSushi · 31/10/2025 18:05

Just one so far but our house is a bit less obvious, I like it to be over by about 7!

Aren't their parents with them? Around here the upper age limit for T&T is year 6, so 10 or 11 and they are all accompanied by at leats one parent.

Wow that's loads!

Maybe as it's half-term their parents have taken today off, or they're going with grandparents etc.

But they generally don't start around here until 6pm onwards.

TayOr · 31/10/2025 18:09

We have now had two and it’s chucking it down!

We usually get over 300 and other than a few little ones who don't know any better and we turn a blind eye too even if their parents try to encourage them to just take one the vast majority take one sweet, say thank you and are just pleased to be having fun. I love it, it's my favourite night of the year.

MNNnnn · 31/10/2025 18:11

Yes I do think the weather isn't helping. I don't think it's raining now, but people will be shower dodging.

MNNnnn · 31/10/2025 18:13

Also, the best chippy in town and for a long way is offering free chips to anyone dressed up this year and my little pumpkin can't really compete with that. If I hadn't already downed my glass I'd be tempted to grab a witches hat and drive down there 😆

Deadringer · 31/10/2025 18:13

We usually get anything between 25 and 45 at the door, and it's usually all over by 7pm. All callers so far have been very polite.
