Fuck you Walkers crisps

Just opened a bag of what I thought was ready salted crisps. It's a red bag, obviously. A foul sweet taste ensued causing me to check the bag. Fucking tomato ketchup flavour. Firstly, who asked for tomato ketchup flavour crisps? Secondly, who wants to be reading the bags when buying a bag of crisps? We all have enough on our plates without needing to do that. Bags' colours denote the flavour and if they want to bring in stupid novelty flavours for weirdos to eat and run out of colours (changing the shade slightly is not sufficient) then these atrocities should be relegated to the bottom shelves where no one will pick them up in error. Heads should roll for this. I'm left having to decide between no crisps or getting dressed, which was not on my agenda for today, and going out in the rain.

I've never quite fogiven Walkers for using Gary Linekar to advertise their crisps, so you don't have my sympathies. Soz. Ordinarily you would get a support emoji, but as it's Walkers it serves you right really.

RaraRachael · 23/10/2025 12:22

Tomato crisps are my favourite and have been for years.
They are virtually impossible to buy - Tesco and Co-op used to have them but none for months.

I'd be equally disappointed if I opened a bag expecting tomato crisps and got tasteless ready salted.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/10/2025 12:23

I for one do read the labels. But the only one I really like is the Walkers Sensations Lime and Coriander ‘poppadums’. So lethally moreish!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 23/10/2025 12:24

The fact that they have green bags for Salt and Vinegar and blue for Cheese and Onion when the rest of the crisp world has the opposite - it’s just so fucking arrogant!

Skyflyinghigh · 23/10/2025 12:29

Not only do I love the ketchup flavoured crisps but I buy in bulk 😂😂. I feel your pain though when you were expecting ready salted!

thisishowloween · 23/10/2025 12:30

Ketchup crisps are amazing - YABU for having awful taste 😉

Tomato ketchup crisps are not new and have always been in a red bag. They were around when I was at primary school so at least 40 years.

But Walkers can fuck off. I have never forgiven them for changing the colour of various bags of crisps. Ready Salted should be Dark Blue. Salt and Vinegar Light Blue. Cheese and Onion Green.

Every crisp manufacturer used the same colour bags for different flavours until sometime in the 90's (I think) when Walkers decided to be different and I have been picking up the wrong flavours in shops ever since.

100% this.

GirtyPlunder · 23/10/2025 12:34

I love a ketchup flavoured crisp. Very like Prawn Cocktail.

Citrusbergamia · 23/10/2025 12:36

DiscoBob · 23/10/2025 11:51

That must've been awful. Tomato ketchup crisps sound absolutely vile, and if your expecting something really plain it makes it such a shock!

I haven't had crisps for ages now. I used to eat them every day but I swear they're not as nice as they used to be. Like all crisps have got shite!

your namesake 'Discos' are making a come back and are bloody lovely but god the salt and vinegar flavour is so strong it makes my eyes water...still eat the whole bag though!

usedtobeaylis · 23/10/2025 12:38

Walkers ketchup crisps aren't new or novelty! I like the odd rare packet of them.

Viviennemary · 23/10/2025 12:39

I'd have been furious too. Tomato ketchup flavoured crisps wtf!

MyrtleLion · 23/10/2025 12:41

Liesmorelies · 23/10/2025 12:19

Rubbish - what if you have a hangover and need a crisp sandwich? I haven't by the way, which is just as well as if I did it would have tipped this over into an actual emergency.

I've managed to eat them anyway and they were perhaps not as bad as I originally thought but I won't be buying them again.

I think you should LTB.

YANBU.

Haha. I think discos never disappeared from my corner shop. But yeah they are sooo strong. I actually wish they did a plain version. Did they ever do?

My fave discontinued crisps had to be the Doner kebab wheat crunchie! I hate doner but they were delicious!

Wisi · 23/10/2025 11:12

ketchup flavoured are top tier crisps

Yep. And ready salted are bottom.

In those multipack bags with 4 flavours each of Salt & Vinegar, Cheese & Onion, and ready bloody salted (which aren't even a proper flavour, like eating cardboard), the latter 4 always end up in the bin.

Only time I'd eat them (and mushrooms) was if it was a life or death situation and I had to eat to survive (like that film Alive when they are stuck on the mountain after the plane crash when they resort to eating human flesh).

FancyCatSlave · 23/10/2025 12:43

Agree with other posters that Walkers are the devil with their green salt and vinegar. This caused many a meltdown with my child who always goes for the blue packets but only likes salt and vinegar. Now she can read it is less of a thing but even she was incredulous at their stupidity and she is only 4.

Ready salted and Paprika are the only acceptable flavours in my book.

I think you should contact a no win no fee solicitor @Liesmorelies for redress.

YABU for eating crisps so early in the day. Strictly an afternoon snack only

What kind of heathen limits when they eat crisps?

Tasteless is right.

Ready salted is for people who don't like crisps.

Not the 90s - Walkers have had that colour scheme for at least 50 years. They were less dominant as a crisp brand in the 70s/80s which is why you always get people swearing the blue and green used to be the other way round, but it wasn't. Smiths and Golden Wonder used the other colours and they were dominant back then.

AgnesX · 23/10/2025 12:50

Used to love a bag of tomato sauce crisps but they've changed the flavouring so much now they're dreadful 😔

Dery · 23/10/2025 12:50

Completely with you on this, OP. I love Walkers crisps but I had a similar appalling experience when Walkers tampered with my two favourite flavours, roast chicken and smoky bacon, by adding (from memory) mayonnaise to one and tomato ketchup to the other. I bought packs of each thinking that Walkers would surely not do anything to ruin the original flavours and that I was willing to try what the Walkers flavour teams must have intended as enhancements. They were awful. Couldn't finish either pack. Fortunately, they seem to have been a passing aberration. Haven't seen either of those flavours since.

Anywherebuthere · 23/10/2025 12:50

Sorry you had to go through. Tomato ketchup is awful 💐

SpigTheFish · 23/10/2025 12:52

Thoughts and prayers.

RaraRachael · 23/10/2025 12:54

I'm having a bag of Walkers salt and vinegar with my lunch wishing they were tomato 😪

We never buy the variety packs because the ready salted would end up in the bin

MajesticWhine · 23/10/2025 12:55

I need crisps now and that’s your fault OP

ProfoundlyPeculiarAndWeird · 23/10/2025 12:58

Absolute lol at your OP, @Liesmorelies .

How about the orange and red stripes that you get on the back of a highway maintenance vehicle? That might be enough of a hi-viz warning.

I've no idea what red normally signals on a Walkers crisps packet? Presumably one of the only two legitimate flavours - ready salted or cheese 'n' onion?
