Fuck you Walkers crisps

Just opened a bag of what I thought was ready salted crisps. It's a red bag, obviously. A foul sweet taste ensued causing me to check the bag. Fucking tomato ketchup flavour. Firstly, who asked for tomato ketchup flavour crisps? Secondly, who wants to be reading the bags when buying a bag of crisps? We all have enough on our plates without needing to do that. Bags' colours denote the flavour and if they want to bring in stupid novelty flavours for weirdos to eat and run out of colours (changing the shade slightly is not sufficient) then these atrocities should be relegated to the bottom shelves where no one will pick them up in error. Heads should roll for this. I'm left having to decide between no crisps or getting dressed, which was not on my agenda for today, and going out in the rain.

You are right and Walkers are wrong. As someone who could eat her bodyweight in crisps, but only if they are ready salted - all artificial flavours are abominations, I feel your pain. Red = potatoes, oil, salt. Nothing else.

Oh I do that more often than I should its such a dissapointment, I am so very sorry 😞

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 23/10/2025 11:56

I am just here on behalf of every South African and Zimbabwean to say that "tomato sauce" crisps are the OG and the only thing wrong in this scenario is that the Walkers ones are a pale imitation that don't do the requisite "staining fingers red for three days" thing that their ilk should do.

Coffeeishot · 23/10/2025 11:58

I don't actually mind tomato crisps but when you open them thinking they are ready salted well that is your day ruined.

ExpertInAbsolutelyZero · 23/10/2025 11:59

Oh, that is horrendous. Your first mistake was deciding to buy Walker’s crisps 😜

CeeJay81 · 23/10/2025 12:00

For me it would be the other way round. Love Tomato sauce crisps. I'd be disappointed with the zero flavour of ready salted.

MorningFresh · 23/10/2025 12:01

Oh, I want crisps now. 😦
My favourites are ridged paprika Lays. I know, they aren't for everyone.

Mochudubh · 23/10/2025 12:04

Yes @Aaron95

I was brought up on Golden Wonder crisps with the "proper" coloured bags. I still can't get my head round the Walker's colour/flavour combos.

IShouldNotCoco · 23/10/2025 12:05

This flavour has been around since I was a child - it’s not new.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 23/10/2025 12:05

At least they werent Prawn effing Cocktail, which they insist on shoving in every variety box. They smell of bad breath and disappointment.
Beware OP if you.ever go to Australia. I played "Name the Flavour" with dh. Got them all wrong.

They are the very best. Dd always brings us several bags home from Holland.

SparklyGlitterballs · 23/10/2025 12:07

You only get about three crisps in a packet now (or so it feels) so surprised there were enough for you to get a taste to be honest.

Oh god yes we buy separate multipacks now or a "meaty" multipack to avoid prawn sodding cocktail!

I like those as well.

I guess one of the prices you pay for introducing lots of interesting flavours is that some people will get "confused" and pick up the wrong one due to something deep in their reptilian brain associating a colour with a particular flavour.

For me I think it is a price that society has to be willing to pay.

SardinesOnGingerbread · 23/10/2025 12:08

Pitchforks at dawn, ladies.

surreygirly · 23/10/2025 12:09

I love tomato crisps

SardinesOnGingerbread · 23/10/2025 12:09

We don't all have time to be reading crisps wrappers. Check your privilege......

YABU for liking plain salted crisps😆 Ah, disappointing though. When I was a child Golden Wonder brought out sausage and tomato flavoured crisps. They were quite nice. My sister was addicted to them.

Totally agree about the colour of the bags though. It took me ages and a few disappointments to get used to Walkers and their ridiculous blue cheese and onion packets. Ours were always green in NI, apart from yellow Tayto - obv(!) And green was always salt and vinegar. I rest my case.

Golden Wonder are far superior to Walkers IMO far more flavoursome, i can only seem to buy them in Home Bargains though 🤔

Irenesortof · 23/10/2025 12:18

So sorry to hear this OP. Hard to know what the world is coming to. You will have to carve out time in your busy schedule to read the packs. Damn!!!!

Mydadsbirthday · 23/10/2025 11:54

YABU for eating crisps so early in the day. Strictly an afternoon snack only

Rubbish - what if you have a hangover and need a crisp sandwich? I haven't by the way, which is just as well as if I did it would have tipped this over into an actual emergency.

I've managed to eat them anyway and they were perhaps not as bad as I originally thought but I won't be buying them again.

Morrisons sell Golden wonder well my local one does. I do prefer the golden wonder flavours but Walkers ready salted is superior imo.

ketchup crisps are delish! similar coloured bag but it really isn't that difficult to check - I think they even say Heinz on the front 😂

thornbury · 23/10/2025 12:21

I live in the middle east and we have Lays crisps, Ketchup is one of the most prominent flavours here alongside salted, chili and French cheese. I have to pay £4 in Waitrose for a 6 pack of proper flavours.

Lays Ketchup are in blue bags, BTW.

EerieDecoration · 23/10/2025 12:21

I always read them, although TBH I like all of them so it's not a big deal if I get it wrong (smoky bacon look a bit similar to prawn cocktail in artificial light). But the insistence on salt and vinegar and cheese and onion being the wrong way round is v annoying so YANBU
