And how old are they?

Mine and 6 and 8 and I am wondering if they are doing not enough / too many!

OP posts:

Y4 DD8 does brownies, gym, swimming and choir - she just dropped aerial hoops and silks

Y6 DD11 does karate, netball, guides and choir - dropped swimming at the end of y5 as she finished the stages

They both also learn two instruments at school which also have to be practised (both do piano, DD8 does sax and DD11 does cello).

smashinghope · 21/10/2025 12:26

DD ( 12) 3 x per week trampolining 10 hours
DD (10) 4 x per week Gymnastics 17 Hours
DD ( 5) 2 x per week Gymnastics 2 hours

They arent allowed any more unless its within school time as couple the older girls hors with their comps and travelling it does get too much.

They both love it and know they can stop at any point.

I cant tell you the value its added to their life in terms of resilance & friendships not to mention their extreme level of fitness and health.

So for me that kinda balances out the sheer grind of drop offs and pickups and late school nights.

SouthLondonMum22 · 21/10/2025 12:38

DS will be 3 in December and does football & swimming.
Twin DD's are 18 months and currently just do swimming but will also be starting football soon.

Plinkers · 21/10/2025 13:20

I would also add, don’t worry if your kids aren’t into clubs. I have known many that aren’t and it’s absolutely fine. Some get into stuff later, others just prefer self-directed activities.

Helpel · 21/10/2025 16:24

Monday - Pony club for DD9, Tutor for DD10
Tuesday - Gymnastics for both
Wednesday - blissfully nothing!
Thursday - Cheerleading for both
Friday - Gymnastics for DD10, Rugby for DD9
Saturday - Riding lesson EOW for DD9, Gymnastics for both
Sunday - Rugby for DD9
Both have talked recently about quitting gymnastics and whilst it will be a shame in some ways me and my husband cannot wait for the time (and money) back in our lives!

SquigglePigs · 21/10/2025 16:31

DD is 6 and does swimming, gymnastics and musical theatre.

Unfortunately they fall Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. I'd have preferred Monday, either Tues or Weds, then Thursday so there was a more relaxed day in the middle but we dont get to pick the days the classes are.

We've opted for weeknights so that weekends are free to chill, visit family/friends, have guests etc.

She's year 2 and we've only added in the musical theatre this term. Two felt like the right balance for us last year.

FlatStanley50 · 21/10/2025 16:34

DD's has gradually ramped up over the years. She's now 10 and doing something most days (is very energetic and in need of constant entertainment / movement though, children definitely vary in this regard).

Monday: singing
Tuesday: piano lesson (at school), ballet, tap, street dance
Wednesday: Swimming
Thursday: choir (at school), ballet, guides
Friday: commercial dance
Saturday: musical theatre
Sunday: mostly blissfully free but sometimes involves rehearsals for shows.

She has tried various things over the years but has v much got a thing for the performing arts now. Also absolutely loves guides and finds swimming very regulating but hoping to drop swimming soon to get another free day. Though if a free slot appears she will definitely want to add more dancing.

We only have one which makes the ferrying her around easier.

When she was the age of your two it was swimming lesson, brownies, ballet, piano and choir (both of these last two at school) so only 3 activities after school during the week. She started off with just ballet and swimming...

DeathMetalMum · 21/10/2025 16:39

12&14 girls.

One dd rowing & hockey Sept-April. Rowing is up to 4x a week and hockey up to 2 x a week.

Other dd kayaking and swimming both 1 x week. Also currently taking part in the school production up to three nights a week after school finishing 4.30 or 5pm.

Eldest dd hasn't had the easiest run with friends in high school, sports clubs away from school have helped so much. Our weekends are busy and can be back and forth, however they can't ask for screen time while at their clubs which is also a win.

JadziaD · 21/10/2025 16:39

Until they were a bit older, it was mostly just swimming and one sport. But now, at 11 and 14, it's all go around here. We did stop all swimming lessons about a year ago but we do go swimming still, albeit not as often. Maybe once a month vs every week (and more in the summer holidays).

DD does multiple dance classes, and also takes a theatre and singing class. She also takes piano lessons but does that in school. When she goes to high school she's planning to join the netball team - she's not intereted in an external club but would like to play and her primary doesn't offer it.

DS has "cut back" this year and is now only doing one sport out of school - rugby. He does have gym membership and goes with buddies, but doesn't do any classes or anything. At school he plays football, rugby, basketball and badminton and dabbles in athletics and rounders in the summer months.

It is quite a lot but my view is strongly that I'd rather they were out and about keeping busy than sitting at home on screens.

NerrSnerr · 21/10/2025 16:42

My 11 year old does climbing 3-4 times a week. She has done swimming lessons, gymnastics, tennis, martial arts and guides through the years but it’s been all about climbing for about 3-4 years. She does clubs in school also.

My 8 year old does football twice a week (training and a match). He has done swimming lessons (briefly), gymnastics and martial arts in the past. I take him swimming once a week as well.

BrightSpark10 · 21/10/2025 16:47

At 13 - dancing 2 days a week (dropped from 3), swimming and she swims competitively so 4 swims a week, 3 of them are at 5:30am 😅sometimes she misses one swim here and there.
She does after school clubs 3 day a week - fitness, food technology (cooking class) and athletics.

goldenautumnleaves25 · 21/10/2025 16:50

8 year old boy: ballet, tap, judo, swimming, flute, lamda, singing, art club and programming club. he is high energy and very arty.
12 year old boy: tennis on saturday, programming club. he has a very long school day with a long commute (special school), so no time during the week.

Bitzee · 21/10/2025 16:52

Mine do quite a lot but a fair bit is through the school so it actually makes our lives easier and it’s just a case of picking from the list what they like the sound of in order to pick up later. So through school DD8 does film, drama, photography and robotics. Outside of school it’s tennis, rugby and brownies. We’ve just stopped swimming since I consider that box ticked now in terms of safety and she’s never going to be champion material.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 21/10/2025 16:54

9 year old. Tumbling, swimming, kickboxing and 11+ tutoring.

Dorrieisalittlewitch · 21/10/2025 17:01

Dc1 (10)

Kickboxing, Scouts, Netball & Violin. Has done various other things including football, swimming and drama in the past. Wants to join Sea Cadets and a Scuba club when older.

Dc2 (7)

Acro, Ballet, Beavers, Brownies and Football. Also used to do swimming and drama. Would like an art class but I've failed to find one that works so far. Really enjoyed a paddleboarding/kayaking/sailing taster she did so have agreed that we'll look into that for the spring. Dc1 also interested.

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 21/10/2025 17:20

DDs 8 and 9 go to science club, Irish dance, taekwondo and netball but these are all at their school, straight after school and they do them together so I can work.

Ruthietuthie · 21/10/2025 17:25

My son just turned 8.
Winter - ice-hockey, two practices each week, plus travel for games. We also do a skating skills class, to work on his technique, plus a private lesson once a week.
Summer - Tennis (Group lessons and private lessons) and swim team (3-5 practices a week during the long summer break, plus swim meets every Saturday morning)
Piano lesson once a week, plus 15 minutes practice a day, which I do with him.
Language classes. Once a week class for my husband's language, working on reading and writing (we speak the language at home).

We like him to have a sport and an instrument, and these are the ones he has chosen and really enjoys.

BreakfastOfChampignons · 21/10/2025 17:26

DS is 7 and does Beavers, swimming lessons, a music lesson and in the summer, cricket. Would like him to do a sport all year round but yet to find one for him. Hes autistic and the social skills gap between him and his peers gets larger each year, so is trickier to find what fits.

mummybearsurrey · 21/10/2025 17:30

DS14 rugby, air rifle, scouts, drums and athletics.

he used to do fencing as well but there isn’t enough time in the week to do everything so he has dropped that.
Currently taking a break from cricket so not doing winter nets. But play again when he doesn’t have rugby 5 days a week!

DD10. Art, Netball, rugby, piano and cubs.

Mumstheword1983 · 21/10/2025 19:05

MargaretThursday · 21/10/2025 19:39

It depends on your dc as to what's right.

Dd1 liked about 1 club a night. At that age she did:
ballet, panto, piano, brownies, choir
Dd2 would have ideally gone straight from one club to another until bedtime every night. She did:
ballet, panto, trumpet, brownies, choir, gym, tap, jazz, athletics, judo and often others that she did for only 1-2 terms
Ds did not really want to do any clubs. He was most put out that I insisted he did something. He chose drama for the simple reason it was close and was only an hour so he wasn't out of the house for long.
I will add that he ended up loving it so much that at one point he was doing 8 different sessions at the same drama school, and is studying one of them at uni now, but if he'd had his way he would never have done anything.

Crunchymum · 21/10/2025 19:45

DC1 (13) has clubs x4 afternoons per week with school (basketball, rowing, coding and science club), x1 lunchtime (at school as well - drama) and swims once a week
DC2 (11) has ballet x2 per week, football x2 per week (plus matches every 2nd or 3rd week), x1 afterschool club and swims x1 per week but at competitive level so there are additional comps etc every few months.
DC3 (8) does football x1 and swims once a week but she has SEN and it's been hard to find clubs that fit her needs.

We are very busy!!

Ineedanewsofa · 21/10/2025 19:50

In school - Yoga, knitting(!), choir, swimming, art, oboe.
Out of school - horses, specifically dressage which takes up every evening and a good chunk of every weekend.
