My number one is meals with meat in such as cheap sausages 🤢

I made a mistake of reading an article about “extruded meat” once. I don’t think I ever recovered from it!

Do you have a link please, I’d be interested in putting myself off cheap meats.

Anytime I've bought own brand cereals there has been upset , kellogs only for cornflakes and rice krispies . Own brand always either too crunchy or too soggy. Weirdly they prefer the own brand weetabix. Heinz beans and spaghetti hoop also can't be beat .

Yorkshire gold
Real butter
Hellman's mayo (plant based is good)
Rummo gf pasta
Ribena
Coffee - has to be freshly ground Starbucks
M&S gf breaded chicken products
Lao gan ma crispy chili oil

Oh, another one, Bird's-eye fish fingers. I tried Youngs and the fish was all mushed up, not flaky. It's a no from me. My fish finger sandwich deserves better.

Have you tried the Waitrose ones? Cheaper than Birds Eye, more fish in them and tastier. I go out of my way to get them for my fishfinger sandwiches!

Gosh realised how unfussy I am. Happy to eat own brand mayo, ketchup, cola, butter etc etc.

my main thing is it has to be good orange juice with bits, would never drink the from concentrate. Also don’t like cheap tomatoes, like the tastier on the vine ones

I also only buy vine-ripened tomatoes. But home-grown ones are often even better.

I can't stand the cheap supermarket pizzas. The more expensive deep-pan ones are OK, but still not a patch on the real thing.

2dogsandabudgie · 10/10/2025 13:48

Only buy free range or organic chicken and outdoor reared pork, Bisto gravy and free range free to roam eggs.

2dogsandabudgie · 10/10/2025 13:49

Real butter as well.

CharlotteCChapel · 10/10/2025 13:52

Marmite, although I can't have it any more because it has barley in. The cheaper ones taste like vegemite

RandyBentwick · 10/10/2025 13:57

Chef ketchup
Barrys tea

Norfolklass2428 · 10/10/2025 13:57

Meat from butcher or farm shop
Anchor butter
Yorkshire Tea Bags
Taylors ground coffee
kenco de caff instant coffee
Kelloggs cereals - e.g cornflakes, special K,
weetabix
Quaker porridge oats
Heinz baked beans
Heinz tomato ketchup
Hellmans mayonnaise
HP Sauces
Stokkes chilli jam
Branston small chunk pickle
Ben's / Tilda microwave rice pouches
Cadbury's hot chocolate ( drinking chocolate and Bourneville)
Cadbury's chocolate ( kids)
Borders biscuits (DH)
Lindt chocolate (me)

Bearinthesmallmessyflat · 10/10/2025 14:04

Quaker oat so simple sachets. I but the plain, unflavoured ones so the only ingredient is oats and yet still the supermarket ones are gross and sludgey.

Other than that I can think of any food I’d insist on the branded version of. I actually prefer own brand beans (but not super cheap ones) and I don’t like proper coca cola anyway. I will though almost always puck home made anything over shop bought/ processed.

Bearinthesmallmessyflat · 10/10/2025 14:07

Oh actually, I rarely eat them but if I have crisps I wont touch a supermarket own brand. There’s loads of brands I do like but the supermarket own ones always seem to be oily and underwhelming

Papyrophile · 10/10/2025 14:09

Mutti tinned tomato polpa!

Fever Tree tonic
Meat and sausages from a good butcher
Fish from Looe day boats.

Agree on Mutti - I made the mistake of buying them on offer once and now I have created a rod for my own back (and an expensive tinned tomato habit).

Papyrophile · 10/10/2025 14:33

@AffIt that's how it starts! I got hooked too: special offers on the four packs and there was no going back. Lidl's deluxe polpa is okay too though, just always out of stock.

Tryingatleast · 10/10/2025 14:36

Coke, waffles, kethchup

OhFeyreDarling · 10/10/2025 14:42

Another one for Mutti tinned toms, the own brand ones are just watery rubbish

Fever Tree tonic
Our local dairy cheese
Local free range eggs
Heinz beans
Hellmans mayo

Icanttakethisanymore · 10/10/2025 14:44

Green Giant sweetcorn

Papyrophile · 10/10/2025 14:48

May I shouldn't mention it, because there are clearly members of my tribe present but.... Kewpie mayo has replaced Hellmans. I blame the cheffy DS.

polkadothorse · 10/10/2025 14:49

Another Mutti tinned tomatoes fan here.
Nestle Shreddies

TMMC1 · 10/10/2025 14:51

Meat
condiments
coffee

Cattenberg · 10/10/2025 17:06

Also Fentiman's Lemonade. I like the sour ones. My second choice would be the Sicilian lemonades sold in glass bottles in supermarkets.

Barry’s Tea

Same here. I switched to loose tea from tea bags a while ago but stuck with Barry's and now anything else just doesn't taste right. Unfortunately the loose tea is only sold in small boxes but we seem to drink less and enjoy it more....maybe its stronger or something.

Allswellthatendswelll · 10/10/2025 23:12

Twinnings tea
Ketchup and Beans- Heinz
Hellermans Mayo

I try and buy organic eggs or from local flock for animal welfare reasons. Also only organic or free range meat (so we eat less of it to afford it).

I love kewpie mayo but can’t eat it since I learned it’s made with battery farmed eggs 🙁
