It needs to be mild because I have small kids but I am interested to hear about any curry pastes you have found which you really rate. I am thinking about Indian / Thai / Malaysian but happy to hear about anything you thought was really good. Thank you!

The Spice Tailor ones are pretty good

Esssa · 07/10/2025 13:41

I make my own korma mix but we buy the mayflower curry powder. I add coconut milk and my children love it with peas but not onions.

CapabilityBrownsHaHa · 07/10/2025 13:46

Thai Taste red or green curry paste. I buy it in Sainsbury's. It comes in a resealable packet, so you can add as much or as little as you like.

GroovyChick87 · 07/10/2025 13:46

Mayflower medium ( they don't do mild but it is very mild).

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 07/10/2025 13:47

Pataks Korma

RainbowZebraWarrior · 07/10/2025 13:50

For Chinese style curry, I use Maysan paste. It's made in my region and I've been buying it locally for about 35 years but it's now available on Amazon.

For what it's worth, I find it way superior to Mayflower. I can't eat Mayflower as it has sulphites in it so it makes me poorly.

Agree with a PP that the spice tailor ones are great. Particularly the Goan one.

Shryykjrg · 07/10/2025 14:00

I agree with spice tailor, quite hard to find sometimes now though.

I get mine from Waitrose as they are often on offer. Big variety, even at my little store. The large Tesco near me also often has them on offer and has a good range. I think my Mum gets hers from Sainsbury's

Endofyear · 07/10/2025 14:42

I use pataks - the tikka masala and rogan josh pastes are both mild.

narcASD · 07/10/2025 15:20

Pataks madras, I also add ground almonds and a bit of double cream in it too.

LucieChardon · 07/10/2025 15:41

We love Japanese curry and use these blocks:

You can do a curry sauce with meat/veg in. Or you can add panko'd chicken or pork to make a katsu curry. Versatile, delicious and they come in Mild, Medium or Hot.

Spice Tailor = great, but a packet is only enough for two and they’re very expensive if not on offer.

Summertoautumnovernight · 07/10/2025 16:06

My kids like pataks korma and M and S own katsu curry paste , I make my own lentil Dahl - they don’t like anyone else’s 😂

LarryIsMyRomanEmpire · 07/10/2025 16:11

Mae Ploy, but just use a small amount to start.
I buy them on amazon.

MonGrainDeSel · 07/10/2025 16:13

It's powder, not paste, but Bolst's is the absolute best. Mostly found in corner shops or specialist Indian or Caribbean places.

Goosyloosy · 07/10/2025 16:19

My grandkids love curry made with Pataks korma paste. I sweat diced onion, a clove of garlic and chicken then add enough paste to coat the chicken and fry off for another 10 mins. Then add a can of coconut milk and simmer till tender. Then at the end I add about 100 mls of double cream.
Mild and very tasty 😋

Crummles1 · 07/10/2025 16:22

I agree re The Spice Tailor (either don't use, or remove the whole spices before serving) and S&B Golden Curry

Greek style or plain yoghurt is better than coconut milk or cream if dc find it too spicy, together with a side of sliced cucumber and cherry tomatoes, and/or even plain lassi

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I find The Spice Tailor packs more than adequate for 2 people tbh. I freeze the unused portion and save it for the next time!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/10/2025 16:26

My dp is basically a seagull. We never have leftovers!

Agree about the whole spices - I just use the chilli and fish it out and don’t bother with the rest.

Oh... I have used these in the past (many years ago) and whichever one I had was delicious.

I save the unused spices in the pouch and give them to dc1 to use

Icanttakethisanymore · 07/10/2025 16:50

Thank you everyone - I really appreciate the recommendations. I have ordered a couple of the Mae Ploy pastes from Amazon as they are very reasonable (about £5 for 400g and a serving is 10g apparently) and I also recall having these many years ago ad they were delicious.

I'll also look out for Spice Tailor in the supermarket on promo.

Thanks again

Recently tried Lidls curry past and its pretty good. We used to always buy the Pataks paste but this is only £1 something.

Plugsocketrocket · 07/10/2025 16:56

After years of using Pataks I watched a few Insta reels on making curry’s and they are so easy to make using cheap Tesco spices and sometimes my hand blender and other times the teeny tiny food processor attachment that came with my hand blender that I’ve given up buying the jars.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/10/2025 17:51

Yes, it's easy enough to make them but sometimes people just need something super quick and easy, and the jars can then have a place - if you're shoving lots of vege in, then I don't think it's too shockingly unhealthy either.
