Tell me about your cordless stick vacuum, good and bad!

I did post this in Housekeeping and got some good advice, especially about not buying a Shark! But could really do with a few more recommendations or warnings for specific brands / models to help me make a decision because I'm still overwhelmed with choices! I'm not considering a Dyson but would love any other suggestions.

House is carpeted throughout with a few long haired humans living in it so a vacuum that deals really well with hair and fluff is essential. I'd prefer a bagless model that is really easy to empty and maintain and preferably without a filter that requires washing every week.

Hoping to find something for around £200.

Thanks in advance, my head is full of hyperbolic vacuum cleaner descriptions and I need it to stop!! 😱

I have a Vax pace. It has the added bonus for me that it's quiet

Umy15r03lcha1 · 06/10/2025 20:29

I have an old Dyson and new Henry, both cordless stick types. Love them both.

Thanks @Umy15r03lcha1 - does your Henry have a bag that has to be replaced or can it be washed and reused? And how much do the replacements cost if you do have to buy them?

i have an old Dyson and a new Shark. The Dyson is shite and now lives in the garage. The Shark is ace, really efficient, hoovers up all my long hair which seems to carpet the bloody house, nice and light and you don’t have to hold your trigger finger down to keep it on like you do with the Dyson. Not sure why you got negative feedback on your other thread!

BayOfBucket · 06/10/2025 20:58

I have a very cheap one from Amazon by something like VacTechPro and it is amazing! It has honestly changed my life - you get about 40 minutes’ hoovering on a charge and it gets all my hair. Has lights on the front to highlight the mank, and has various attachments. My favourite bit is that I can take off the long stalk and have the rest as a kind of stump vacuum with the floor head that I use on the stairs.

TherapyMe · 06/10/2025 21:00

Shark anti-hair wrap cordless was a pile of fuckery. It would sulk at having to pick up anything larger than a grain of rice. The pipe would always get clogged such a shitty design flaw. The new Dyson stick we had a few months ago has been wonderful I can honestly say no issues so far.

TalulahJP · 06/10/2025 21:00

My ancient Dyson v6 hoovers up pet hair and my long hair fine but mine tangles round the brush at and has to be removed every so often. Easy task involving a pound coin to twist the fitting and scissors. The top filter and back one is easy enough to change. I will get another.

Uh oh, now I'm more undecided! 😂How easy is it to remove the hair from the floorhead attachment?

I went out with every intention of buying a Dyson and came away with a Dreame highly recommended by the salesperson. I love it! There's a great battery life, it hoovers up my huskies' hair well and it's so light. I think the model is the z40 and I picked it up for around £250. There's all the attachments in the box too so unlike the Dyson you don't need to buy additional attachments separately.

Strop · 06/10/2025 21:03

I have a Vax and wouldn't buy one again, though it's been alrightish. Needed a new head just within warranty, which I think was two years. It's now 2 years in from that and I need to replace it. Good for whizzing round quickly downstairs but I still get the big plug-in hoover out for a decent clean. Also have issues with hair really clogging it up. Had anyone got a Miele? I have heard some good things about them.

TwistyTurnip · 06/10/2025 21:05

I’ve got the Dyson cordless V15 Absolute Pet Detect and I absolutely love it! It’s so powerful. Easy to empty and switch between attachments. My carpet looks immaculate for next to no effort. It was a lot of money and I felt nervous buying it, but it’s worth every penny.

I swapped my Dyson for a Shark corded and I wouldn’t go back. I had two Dyson animal corded vacuums in quick succession. Neither lasted longer than a year. They are supposed to be specialist pet hair cleaners and despite following the cleaning and maintenance recommendations both clogged in places which were inaccessible to clear. The first one was replaced under the guarantee and replacement failed with exactly the same problem. I didn’t bother replacing it and the Shark is working really well. Not impressed with Dyson at all.

nativityhelp · 06/10/2025 21:05

I had a Dyson V10 which I loved for about 7 years. Over that time, various bits had to be replaced, and eventually it gave up the ghost. When I came to replace it I was inclined to go with the same but was tempted by the Shark, mostly as it was so much cheaper for similar reviews.
I bit the bullet and in Prime week I bought the Shark, clean and empty for about £200.
I've been blown away by this gadget. It sounded like a bit of a novelty, and I was prepared to be disappointed. But thats definitely not the case. The battery time is at least double the Dyson. It cleans the floors so much better, particularly the carpeted areas. It's lighter to manoeuvre and not having to faff about emptying it is a breeze. I really can't recommend highly enough.

LaminatedLou · 06/10/2025 21:07

Dyson the best. Shark too heavy.

FamingolosForDays · 06/10/2025 21:07

I had a Samsung and it was a massive pile of shit. Heavy, battery life was crap. I got a shark with a lead and its so much better.
If you're going cordless definitely get one that you dont have to hold the trigger down to hoover.

Ooh, I keep coming back to the Dreame stick vacuums! They do seem great from the reviews and description. What are they like to clean / maintain? Do you know if it's as good on carpets as hard floors?

Anyone else out there got a Dreame cordless stick vacuum?

Highly recommend the Henry quick.
They also do a Hetty!
Pods to collect dust, mess free, easy to clean the brush head, attachments and has scented pods that smell lovely when you hoover!

Excitingnewusername · 06/10/2025 22:17

I've had a Shark for... probably over ten years now... Never any problems. Love it!

(I did buy a corded Shark Lift Away too, for once in a blue moon heavier duty hoovering)

Sonolanona · 06/10/2025 23:26

Henry quick here. It's brilliant! I have a double coated dog and a cat and it copes brilliantly and is so easy to use. I love the fact it has little bags and I don't have to empty the contents into a bin! The bags last ages and you just drop a new one in (around every couple of months for me and I have to hoover every day!)

ThatGreenFawn · 07/10/2025 07:07

We have a samsung, with bin and its great. Never looses suction and as very have the bin too its so easy to empty. I thought the bin was a bit of a fad and an extra expense we didn't need, but dh got a good deal on it and im songlad he did as its made the hoover much more user-friendly. You place the dust chamber onto the bin port and it sucks all of the dust and bits into the bin so no dust flying everywhere and really easy to empty.

Nobumsonthetable · 07/10/2025 07:28

@WordInYourShellLike
the hair doesn’t get wrapped around the brush, it gets sucked up into the chamber or whatever you call it. Then you just empty that into the bin. It’s really good for hair, I have long hair and so does our au pair so the place looks like a hairdresser most of the time with all the hair everywhere.

applegingermint · 07/10/2025 07:34

The Shark Stratos is useless. Ours is the neediest vacuum ever and the head constantly needs to be stripped and cleaned. No pets, just a young child and porcelain tiles.

I much prefer our current set up of Eufy robot vac for daily sweep & mop and a bagged, corded Miele Cat & Dog for deeper cleans.

When we visited the Miele factory outlet store a year or two ago, they had masses of Miele stick vacuums piled up for sale, which led me to think that maybe cordless stick vacuums just aren’t particularly good as a category.

applegingermint · 07/10/2025 07:37

Before the Shark we had a Bosch Athlet cordless stick and it was so useless I ended up giving it away for free. But yes, two cordless stick vacuums later we’ll never have another one.
