Tell me about your cordless stick vacuum, good and bad!

I did post this in Housekeeping and got some good advice, especially about not buying a Shark! But could really do with a few more recommendations or warnings for specific brands / models to help me make a decision because I'm still overwhelmed with choices! I'm not considering a Dyson but would love any other suggestions.

House is carpeted throughout with a few long haired humans living in it so a vacuum that deals really well with hair and fluff is essential. I'd prefer a bagless model that is really easy to empty and maintain and preferably without a filter that requires washing every week.

Hoping to find something for around £200.

Thanks in advance, my head is full of hyperbolic vacuum cleaner descriptions and I need it to stop!! 😱

I've had a couple of Dysons and a Shark - they've all been fine for a short while. I wouldn't buy either again.

We’ve got a Henry Stick. It’s marvellous. I do so much more hoovering now because it’s so much quicker to grab it out and run it around.
it’s got little bags which can be binned but I just pull all the crap out and reuse it. They are on offer in Curry’s for £200 I believe.

I recently bought this from Argos - my second AEG, the last one lasted around seven years.

Prior to that I had a Dyson stick - it was heavy and gave you hand ache having to keeping the on/off thing depressed.

Given up on expensive ones.
I have 4 animals and they do t last any longer than a cheap one.

Gone over to a Russel Gibbs of all those gs. Got it from Amazon. It was 60 quid. It's very light and works well.

Once a fortnight I push round a sebo for a good deep clean but that weighs a tonne.

I have to hoover daily with the dog.

Well, I've ended up going completely off-piste and ordering a Dreame Z20! Was going to go for the R20 on Argos but got a better deal for a better model so fingers crossed it'll live up to the hyperbole! 😬

I hate them and would never recommend. Previous owner of three - I've lived and learned. Now have a corded Miele and it's fantastic.

Hi OP, how did you get on with the dreame vacuum? I'm looking at the black friday sales and going around the houses with brands/reviews etc 😩

Hi JDM, it's pretty good, and certainly powerful - it took so much crap out of the carpets that I hadn't even known was there! It's a bit top heavy but maybe that's not unusual for this style of vacuum, I don't know. It's not so easy to get the clogged up stuff out of the dust receptacle - it would be fine if you'd just vacuumed up a load of cereal like in all the ads, but in the real world, there's going to be a lot of hair and dust and this does tend to get stuck around the edges of the filters But this would be easily resolved by a suitable tool, tongs maybe. It hasn't had a single hair wrapped around the spinning brush which is brilliant! Haven't tried out all the tools yet, there are probably more than I need, but some are very handy. Good luck in your search!

My husband just bought a shark pet pro and is very happy with it! Seems to do well with pet hair/my hair, charges pretty quickly, folds up…

Thanks for the info OP. We have a dog, but she doesn't' shed, unlike myself 😆

Vax Blade 32v - fucking useless. Barely sucks, filters clog, dust chamber has a latch you can flip open by accident while in use. Do Not Buy.

Dyson Animal - pretty good, good suck (particularly with the heavy beater head), three speed settings so good for hard and carpet floors, but pretty noisy and a bit heavy. Filters are easy to get to and clean. Battery runs out too quick if you go to max speed, but does our whole house in one charge on middle.

/edit - oh, way too late to be useful :D Oh well!

Henry for me every time. I've had 3 in 40 years. The latest one was just an upgrade..I gave # 2 to my neighbour for her holiday home..its still going strong!
My son tried all the trendies...all disappointed...he now has a Henry and loves it.
In every hotel I've ever stayed, you see the Henrys on every floor during housekeeping services...says it all!
