Anyone from Manchester? Where to stay after a gig in Wythenshawe Park?

Got tickets for the cure next summer. We’re about 3 hours drive from Manchester and I don’t know the area at all.

looking to book a hotel for afterwards but I have no idea what the transport links will be like that time of night so wondering if anyone has any recommendations for somewhere that will be easy to get to afterwards?

thanks in advance

There is a Premier Inn in Didsbury. 10 mins in an uber or about a 40 minute walk. I’ve stayed there before and it’s okay!

Thank you!

It’s on the metrolink line so anywhere in the city centre would be ok. Depends if you need somewhere with parking or not?

Great, thank you! We would need to park. I’m wondering looking at that line if I should head east to a hotel near Manchester airport which should be a quieter direction to travel than into the city?

that definitely might be a quieter route, I can’t think of any hotels between there and the ones at the airport though. I’d definitely stick to the tram, it’s never easy getting a cab after such an event!

bajanasinpajamas · 03/10/2025 19:42

We went to a gig there this summer - stayed in City centre.
Easy to get the tram/bus /Uber to Wythenshawe and when it finished there were buses laid on going back to the city centre.

lucysmam · 03/10/2025 19:48

We went to Fontaines DC this year & stayed in the Piccadilly Travelodge. Literally 10 mins from Piccadilly station. £12 Uber to get there, and they put on buses to get back to the centre. Ours didn't charge us (think they were supposed to be a flat £2/3 fare). Dead easy! We're considering The Cure next year, too. Probably resale if we do though.

Rowgtfc72 · 03/10/2025 19:53

Dd was there for Sam Fender this summer. They stayed in a Best Western at Wilmslow. Uber back was £40.

Thank you everyone I really appreciate the replies

I’m with @bajanasinpajamas and @lucysmam on this one and you should stay and park in the city centre.

Dead easy to get there via uber then just head back to the city centre after the gig by bus. You'll struggle to get an uber without walking and waiting for one

I live sort of not far but will be heading into the city centre and going the long way round to get home. Will be much easier for me

lucysmam · 03/10/2025 20:16

@OnTheBoardwalk we did look for an uber back but it was quoting close to £40!! & it was crazy busy.

We walked up to Tesco for drinks and snacks while the bus queues calmed down a bit, then back to Wythenshawe where they were going from. Tram queues were mental & we'd have been waiting an age!

@carratcake could you get the train to Manchester? Then no parking worries.

OnTheBoardwalk · 03/10/2025 20:23

@lucysmam £40 just back to Manchester? Surge pricing and its finest then.

Would cost me less than that from my house to the park now. I wouldn’t like to think how much it would cost on the night hence me heading to town to get home from there

yes train would be a good option @carratcake parking is expensive in the city centre but you can get deals if you pre book a space

Chickenhorse · 03/10/2025 20:28

Google Luther King House in Manchester. It is really quaint, it has a gated car park, no charges. Bed and breakfast is really good (and reasonably priced). I shouldn’t actually tell anyone about this because it is such a find 😁

lucysmam · 03/10/2025 20:29

Yep, around £40 just into the centre! Bus was much more reasonable & not a bad ride (took maybe 40 mins to actually get moving out of the traffic but none-stop once we were going). Straight back to Piccadilly. Had it still been the more reasonable £12 we paid to get there in an Uber, I'd have done that again, for comfort/speed.

OnTheBoardwalk · 03/10/2025 20:54

Oh and calling to Tesco's for supplies first is a good call

MiddleAgedDread · 03/10/2025 21:19

If you don’t mind walking to Tesco to wait for a cab there’s also a travelodge in altrincham and a premier inn.

BaronessBomburst · 03/10/2025 21:34

Slow Readers Club are the support.
Absolutely brilliant band. No idea why they're not more famous.
I would love to go too but I'm abroad and DS will be back in school.

lucysmam · 04/10/2025 20:01

@BaronessBomburst I've never heard of them; will have a listen tomorrow. We really enjoyed this year's support acts as much as FDC!

Malbecfan · 04/10/2025 20:11

@BaronessBomburst I taught 2 of the members of SRC when I first started teaching. They really deserve to be better known, but I'm delighted that they will be supporting The Cure on their home turf, so to speak.

Do not stay at any of the Britannia hotels! They are horrible.

Didsbury house hotel
travelodge or premier inn Didsbury
bowling green hotel chorlton
airbnb in Didsbury or Chorlton

OnTheBoardwalk · 04/10/2025 23:41

Agree do not stay at a local Britannia hotel

do be aware though if any recommendations for hotels not in the city centre and how long and how much it’s going to take to get you there. I'm interested to see how many people saying chorton, didsbury and other surrounding areas have actually been to a gig in the park

to my house is only £20 from the park normal day. I will absolutely be heading into Manchester on organised buses rather than trying to get home or to random hotels

RainBow725 · 05/10/2025 00:15

The airport is very close so worth looking hotels there. Also try The Belmore pub in Sale - also a hotel. Walkable from Wythy Park. And there are a few hotels in Altrincham - about 3 miles away.

I’ve been to many. It’s easy to get towards West Dids from the park after a gig. Many people walk towards Princess Road to find an easier spot to get a taxi onwards to Levenshulme, Longsight etc. I could get home relatively quickly that way.

I love how we all agree Britannia is an absolute no Grin

Sorry OP just making sure there are no crossed wires - I am definitely not suggesting you stay in Levenshulme or Longsight!!! Just explaining where my area was Grin

lucysmam · 05/10/2025 09:19

I'm going to go out on a limb & say that if all you want is a bed & a shower, Sacha's (Britannia), in the centre, is ok. We've stayed there a handful of times - getting in late after gigs & up early for trains home so dd1 could get to work & it's not terrible. Dirt cheap too (last time we paid about £23 each for the night). Maccy's breakfast for the train home & we were sorted.
