Also known as, Mrs Bucket (pronounced bouquet) What an actress of her time! I still enjoy watching ‘Keeping up Appearances’ now 96 wonderful years. Rest in Peace. ❤️

She was an absolute legend - her comic acting skills were incredible. So much strength of character, so much energy. I'm so sad to hear she has died, although at 96 what an age and what a life well lived. Amazing lady and one of the very best.

HelpMeGetThrough · 03/10/2025 12:10

She was absolutely brilliant.

Loved KUA but also adored her in Hetty Wainthropp Investigates. That was a great show that people don’t seem to remember.

RIP to a real Dame.

I re-watched Hetty Wainthrop investigates again recently. She was brilliant in it!

You must see Anybody’s nightmare, she was absolutely superb in that.

"she said 'it's Ma Griffe' and I said 'well it wants washing'"

Brilliant writing by Victoria Woods, sadly no longer with us but what a delivery from Dame Patricia. RIP

Also Alan Bennett monologues

BeanQuisine · 03/10/2025 13:13

A good long life and a fine performer.

My mother hated Keeping Up Appearances but I enjoyed it. It was predictable but always amusing.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 03/10/2025 13:14

‘Kitty’ was my favourite role of hers.

Wherever she is now, I hope there's a sauna, jacuzzi and room for a pony.

RIP

Oh how upsetting.
I really liked her as an actress. And what a beautiful, amazing singing voice she had.
So multi talented.

Yes to the singing voice!

In 1980 she sang Ruth in the NY Shakespeare Festival production of G&S's Pirates of Penzance. Groundbreaking production, all on YouTube. (Sadly she couldn't make the 1983 film, where she was subbed by Angela Lansbury.)

Here she is (with Rex Smith as Frederick): funny and tragic.

Aw RIP 💓 I loved Hyacinth
RICHAAAAARRD!!!!! 🤣🤣

LlynTegid · 03/10/2025 13:36

May she rest in peace. I was fortunate to see her in a play many years ago.

scalt · 03/10/2025 13:45

She was also unforgettable as Irene in Alan Bennett’s talking heads, as a nosy neighbour, almost with Mumsnet vibes.

”I keep thinking about the kiddy opposite, I haven’t seen it for a week or two, and they’re out all the time! Every single night they’d go out, and the kiddy doesn’t go, and no one comes in to sit. It can’t be more than five. It never plays out, and they want fresh air, do kiddies, it’s a well known fact.”

EstherGreenwood63 · 03/10/2025 13:46

She was such a talent. I am so sad. Patricia Routledge and Jane Goodall in the same week. That really sucks! May they RIP.
