Young person lingo.

I'm 50 and work with a lot of younger women including teenagers. What language can I embarrass them by using?
I remember to Yeet things rather than throw them. Are things still lit? Ideally AF? Any other good ones?

Hope this helps

I was actually looking for one on 1920s yoing people's slang aimed at their parents. I've seen it on Instagram.

noblegiraffe · 30/09/2025 20:06

If you do something well, you cooked. If you did something badly and are going to get into trouble, you are so cooked.

If you need to get on with some work, you say 'I need to lock in'.

JurgenKloppsTeeth · 30/09/2025 20:09

Describe something a bit nicer than the usual as “boujie”

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 30/09/2025 20:15

If someone does something well, then you say "Jolly good."
If someone does something very well, then
"By jove, that was jolly good,"
If someone does something bady, then you are entitled to say, "Oh dear, what a poor show!"

Mysterian · 30/09/2025 20:53

Ooh, I do the "boujie" thing! Maybe I'm still groovy after all!

Needmorelego · 30/09/2025 20:55

Unfortunately it changes everything 3 weeks or so.
I just nod and pretend I understand.
I called my daughter's friend "bruh" the other day.
"Sup bruh" I said.
So cringe. Apparently.
😂

Geneticsbunny · 30/09/2025 21:20

It's all about the gen alpha slang now. Everything is skibbidy and a cool person has infinite aura. Six seven anyone?

Halfquarterbag · 30/09/2025 21:21

Jive turkey muddaphuqa.

Mysterian · 30/09/2025 21:28

Is "rizz" still allowed?

I used to Google every other word I saw on Instagram but gave up at some point… From what I remember you did well is ‘you ate’, ‘zest’ I think was derogatory for gay, and many, many first letter abbreviations… smh (frustration).

Should have said "blud" I think I don't know for sure
That was this summer's term, wasn't it?

@noblegiraffe for doing well, are you sure you don't mean "she ate"? I have never heard "cooked" for doing well but that might just be me being out of date

Toddlerteaplease · 30/09/2025 22:07

I was working with a 22 year old the other day. She was practically speaking a different language. It really made me laugh, (and feel like an old fossil. I’m 43)

Spiffing!

dumberthanaboxofrocks · 30/09/2025 22:14

chopped - unattractive person
based - cool, very much your own man (or woman)
Aura - energy/ image you emit
no aura - self explanatory, like, uncool
for the birds - exactly what it meant originally
cooked can also mean you’re cooked (like, forgot I had a test, am so cooked)
glazin - sycophancy

KrupBrie · 30/09/2025 22:14

Rizla of ohio

mumofoneAloneandwell · 30/09/2025 22:15

Does anyone know what 67 is??? 😄

LavenderHaze04 · 30/09/2025 22:15

If food is really good it 'slaps'. Ugly is 'chopped'. As someone said above you can 'cook' (do something well) or be 'cooked' (in trouble)

I've definitely heard "I cooked that exam" and they've been pleased.

On the other hand coming out of an exam with "I'm cooked" is bad.

Skibidi is dead. Bruv is more appropriate than blud.

Round my way anyway!

INeedAnotherAlibi · 30/09/2025 22:24

Siiiiixxx seeeeevvvveeenn seems to be the thing now. Can officially say ‘brat summer is over besties’. DD uses ‘pookie’ for friend. 🤷🏻‍♀️

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 30/09/2025 22:43

As far as I can tell 6-7 is a bit like skibbidy as in entirely meaningless but a sign you are in the know. At least until we start using it!

Yeah, I’m afraid Gen Z slang is a bit passé now - some of those kids are almost 30!

Gen Alpha slang is seeping in. The ‘6 7’ thing is such nonsense. How are they so annoying already?!

Obeseandashamed · 01/10/2025 00:55

Farming - putting in work/ grinding
aura - energy you emit
sigma - another word for good or also can be used like what the heck/what the sigma?
pookie - friend
Bussing - top tier
Gooner - weird guy/geek/also term for masturbating
Crashing out - losing your mind/going crazy
Tuff - approved/liked/respected. E.g commenting on a friends post with “Tuff 🔥 “
Mid - meh - average
cold - similar use to tuff. Shows approval.
Shook - scared/surprised/amazed
spenny- expensive

Rizla of ohio

I asked for a packet of Rizlas at co-op the other day, assistant looked at me in a weird way.

I guess I asked them for some kind of weird shit then?

BeMintFatball · 01/10/2025 06:17

GOAT = greatest of all time. I have no idea how that would work on a sentence though.
